Reminds me of a scene from "Buffy":
Giles: Yes, it's the end of the world.
All: AGAIN????

Would you go back if...
by 24k inwhat if the watchtower announced that they are not god's sole channel of spiritual truth?
along with this admission, would come an apology for all of the misleading and damaging predictions and past teachings.
what if they also dumped the disfellowshipping arrangement, as currently practiced, and allowed for respectful disagreement and disent, on issues such as blood transfusions and military service?

This site does give you fair warning
by free2beme inyesterday, my active witness mother called me.
we talk all the time, and since she knows i am wiccan and do not consider myself christian and am against the witnesses.
she never brings it up, so that we can have a censored relationship.

***if it was not for this site telling me about these things. I would not have any warning or insight to these conventions and assemblies.***
That was my initial reason for coming here, too. I needed ammunition because I thought some JW relatives were about to visit to pour Armageddon all over me. They never did show up, but I'm well armed now. -

Small, but meaningful, moments of joy...
by daystar inin my office building we have a cafeteria that is run by another company.
there is this one mexican woman who has just the most pleasant demeanor, every day.
she greets everyone with a smile and a "how are you today, my friend?".

Here's something I will never forget: In my teens, I was hospitalized to have my wisdom teeth taken out. My roommate was a tiny, bird-like woman who slept a lot. When I was taken back to my room after the surgery, the doctor told me I needed to drink a lot of water to help with the post-op recovery. This was my first hospital stay, and I was in total misery with the pain and swelling.
As I lay suffering in my bed, some doctors came in to talk to my roommate. They told her that her cancer was inoperable and that they were going to send her home as there was nothing more they could do. The rest of that day until she went home, she was at my bedside every hour to make sure I was drinking enough water.
It was only after I grew up that I realized what a selfless and generous thing that lovely woman did for a thoughtless teenager. -

Arrogance? When will we humans learn we are not the center of everything?
by mavie inwe humans are an arrogant, anthropocentric species.
ptolemy posited that the earth was the center of the universe.
once copernicus began to show that the sun, not earth, was at the center of our solar system, some still believed that the sun at least was the center of the universe.

***Can anyone else add any human centered views we as a species have held?***
Humans still believe they have the right to destroy the habitats of other animals to make room for themselves.
Humans treat the earth's natural resources as their own private warehouse with little regard for the consequences of exploiting those resources.
Humans treat the earth like a toilet, pouring their personal and manufactured wastes anywhere with few qualms of conscience. -

not seen him for a year or so.. anyway he's telling me that he's selling his house (his first place bought 2 years ago) as the society are telling them all that the end is in sight sooner than they think!

***Something I don't get about the dubs -- based on the pictures depicting armageddon in the wt literature why aren't they building bomb shelters and storing food? ... I would prepare for it instead of selling my house and peddling magazines.***
Because dubs don't believe they will need bomb shelters. Jehovah will supposedly protect them during Armageddon. A nuclear weapon could explode 1 foot above a dub's head at the big-A, but he would have nothing to fear -- Jehovah would seal him in a little protective bubble. And how do dubs qualify for such special treatment? By selling their houses and peddling magazines! -

Baptism - To Whom?
by mavie inthanks to drew for originally posting this in one of sagan's threads.
in light of the questions for baptism, specifically question 2:.
(1) on the basis of the sacrifice of jesus christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to jehovah to do his will?
-

*** "Remember, too, that you have made a dedication to Jehovah God himself, not to a work, a cause, other humans, or an organization." ***
More proof of the JWs' defiance of the biblical injunction to examine "the scriptures daily to see if these things were so." If they really studied the scriptures and their WTS "spiritual food," they would spot these contradictions and question them. They're all fast asleep. -

Peace and Security to follow some day
by Sherwood in1 thessalonians 5:1-11 .
5 now as for the times and the seasons, brothers, you need nothing to be written to you.
2 for you yourselves know quite well that jehovahs day is coming exactly as a thief in the night.

That's my very own pet intestinal worm (which in the new order will eat only straw). Isn't it cute??? Don't you want to go running back to the JWs so you can have one just like it in the new order? -

Let's Impeach The President!! Mr Young on form again.
by lowden inhe may now be a bit of an 'old croc' but neil young has really pulled a gem out of the bag with his latest album 'living with war'!
i've been a fan for over 25 years now and this is a milestone album, probably the best since freedom or ragged glory imo.
he's very often at his best when ripping into someone or something, a brilliant writer when it comes to putting things simply and in a nutshell.. stand-out track has got to be 'let's impeach the president'.
