Mr. Gumby, just to make a long story short, I know they exist, because, I know some who have called them, and their calls were answered. I have had some encounters with them. You have every reason to be a scaredy kat. That is one door you don't want to open, because you will not be able to close it. Now, if someone you know, or come into contact with has opened it, that's a different story. By the way, I'm a scaredy kat, also!

Honestly, Mr. Gumby, I have not really done any. The info that I have is mainly from the WTS. I know some on this board really get into it, you know, the Greek and all that stuff. I was never into that, I mean I was truly a "baaaaaaaaa".
I always had faith the Bible was the word of god. So basically, I think that even if it turns out to be, that the Bible is not really the word of god, he must exist, because, like I said, I know Satan and the demons exist.

okay i'm still a newbie but i was quite surprised when reading some info of a statement about the 'end being fluid' and that .
'present truth replaces past truth ,however present truth may be replaced by future truth'.
cambridge dictionary definition on truth -the real facts about a situation, event or person.
When is the truth not the truth? Very simple: When it's a lie.
Now: When is a lie, not a lie?

No matter what men say, do, or write, in spite of how I was, or was not treated in the Org., I still believe that Jehovah is the creator and Jesus is his son. Especially after knowing that the other side exists, namely, Satan and the demons.

when i was a kid, my parents (strong in the truth: father elder, mother regular pioneer) encouraged me to read.
in reality, they could hardly have held me back; i come from a long line of bookworms, including my father.
books were like water.
I think people like old "Jesus Eyes"(man, that's a good one) are the self-appointed guardians of "the truth". If Jah sees everything you do, then why do people like old "Jesus Eyes" feel they have to go around snooping? Why can't they just "wait on Jehovah" to correct you?

he wasn't the typical elder.. dad was a gifted man, highly intelligent...very analytical.
i remember when my jw sister married a no-good jerk, while everyone told her she should stay married because of how holy it all was, dad was the first one to tell her to get a divorce.
he was the one who, when my sister was df'd and a while after reconstructed her house (which was in rather bad shape), dad took her and her children to his house to live there while the new house got built.
Kerc,
It sounds like your father was not just a gifted man, HE WAS A GIFT. Hang in there, buddy. I know it's tough to lose someone like him.

yes folks.
i roomed in a double room with a bethel elder at wallkill.
i would come home late at night and i would hear him cursing up a storm.
Mary,
Now that, was funny!

at one extreme are people like the jws that we criticise for relying too much on works for their salvation and so they have to live through a lot of anxiety day after day out of fear of failing.
at the other extreme are those that say "i am saved by faith alone, once saved always saved, that's why jesus died for us" and seem to ignore completely the good works factor.
obviously the right balance is somewhere between the two but we need more sophisticated thinking to grasp it than just: i need works to be saved or i need only faith to be saved.
I think that if you claim to be a Christian, you should live the life required by such a claim. I know no one can live it perfectly, but your life should be different from those who do not claim to be Christians.
