Believe it or not, "Boiler Room", because some family guy gets talked into investing his house "down payment" money into an investment scam. I felt sorry for his wife.
People like those scammers tried to pull that kind of crap on me in the late 1990's, but it didn't work, because I was already in the market.
I would keep them on the phone for as long as I could, so they couldn't call the next guy with their lies. I hate those people.

I left the Catholics to become a J.W. and while everyone in my family was shocked, I was never shunned or avoided. I was the one who avoided them.
You cannot leave the J.W.'s the same way. When you leave, you might as well have the plague.

okay, growing up a jw in the 70's 80's and early 90's, all we heard about was how the generation of 1914 will not pass away,(much like witnesses in the 60's and early 70's all heard about 1975) (what a great parallel) conventions, watchtower articles, public talks, endless studies and of course every issue of the awake magazine had it on the inside cover, it was everywhere, brothers, sisters and elders were absolutely sure about this, the society constantly mentioned it in our kingdom ministry (service), it was everywhere.
then with the change in november 1995, it just kinda disappeared and became unimportant.. does the society even mention "this generation will not pass away" anymore ?????.
seems to me, that the past 10 years, it has hardly been mentioned anywhere anymore.. what do you think ??

The way it was presented was those who were at the "age of understanding" or the "age of awareness", which was understood to be, the way I was told, about 12 years old.
It was never presented as "those BORN in 1914", unless someone can find a quote that says different.

just to let you all know why i won't be able to post for some time...i am finally getting in to the hospital for a much-needed operation that kept being postponed.
i have been back and forth to three different hospitals and various doctor's offices for tests, x-rays, consults and then more pre-op tests and x-rays.
(i have never heard of "nuclear testing before now...i wondered if they were going to send me to nasa!

well, i broke it to my super devout parents that after this i don't believe there is any reason why i should trust any 'brother' i don't know around my kids.. no way, no how!.
they had to admit this was pretty shocking and enlightening but they still ended up making excuses.
the society will soon have to drop the 'we are better than everyone else' argument for sure.
How about: "He stole the card, and we never knew him".
You know what would REALLY be bad?
If, during the investigation, the authorities found out he was not the only one.

i know many have quoted ridiculous statements from the assemblies etc., i just wonder what irked you most off of the platform in your own kh.. the one that sticks out in my mind was when we had a guest speaker on a sunday for the public talk.
i don't remember the theme but his main point was the starving people in africa did not need food.
he stated they needed spiritual food and would opt for that over a meal because they realize they could eat in the new order and there was no need to send any donations directly.

when i was in my teens, i had spent the night at a jw's girlfiriend's house.
we stayed up most of the night but were required to get to the kh the next morning for the sunday meeting.
i sat in the back row and apparently nodded off.
