who were your past circuit overseers?
i'm sure a lot of us actually know mutual people, as the co's relocate all over the country.. here's a few from the southeast us: (let me know if you recognize any names and post yours too please...).

In 1973, when I became a witness in Florida, Carey Barber, who later went on to be one of the GB, was our CO.
He was really a very nice man-worked with everyone in the congregation. In our group, he was working with a "sister of color" in a rundown neighborhood, and a redneck guy yelled out something about it. Barber yelled back, "Mind your own business!"
having been out of the organisation for over 4 years and having finally released my kids from the hellish existance that is life as a jw, it struck me today how enjoyable our weekends are in comparison to when we were jw's.. the weekends are vital for us just now.
my wife doesn't work but i work full time from very early in the morning.
i don't get to see my beutiful children in the morning during the week.
Jambon, after reading this, another thing came to mind about weekends:
Attention seeking poster? Many times it seems I can't challenge an argument here without getting attcked by a bunch of rabid dogs. Backtrack and read the posts jambon 1 to ascertain who really through your initial topic off track. Not naming names, but some forum users here don't have the intellectual honesty or courtesy of domestic animals let alone qualify as human beings.
Right now, I am going back to college...at 58 years old. So, weekends are usually filled now with reading and learning such interesting things. Right now, I am taking Abnormal Psychology. How fascinating is has been to read about Phobias, Depression, etc.
One interesting mental condition is Narcissistic personality disorder,characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance and a lack of empaty. There is "grandiosity" and self-absorption in fantasies of unlimited success, power, and/or beauty, and a need for constant admiration. People with narcissistic personality disorder use a less stringent standard for evaluating themselves than for judging others. Criticism, the indifference of others, and threats to self-esteem are met with responses of rage, shame, or humiliation.
Thank you for letting me review for my upcoming test. Some "telling" comments on your thread just made me think of this information.
P.S. After taking many English courses, I should also point out that the correct spelling s/b threw...as in "threw your initial post off track." Ah....Education is freeing....!!!!

I enjoy morning cuddles from my wee kids. I cook breakfast & then we go out for the day which is lovely in this warm sunny Scottish weather

i got the jw "bug" as a teenager.
witnesses called at our door when i was nearly 11. my parents are deaf and i was the oldest hearing child, the default interpreter for them in that era before relay services and professional interpreters.
they had no interest in jws, but it started to spark an interest in me.
Great to have this thread bumped up....how is everyone doing with college?
I am still taking classes.....Abnormal Psychology this summer.
It has really answered some questions as to why many become JWs!

Stories like yours inspire everyone. Thank you for sharing. You stated that you teach Psychology. I'll bet it helps you to better understand the "draw" people have to JWs!
I was "in" for over thirty years. I am back in college at 58. Hope the brain cells hold out a little bit longer. I am seeking a degree in History, and right now I am taking Abnormal Psychology. I find it very interesting, to say the least! My daughter is also out. She is 22 and is a Biology major minoring in Psychology. We are taking the same class right now, and sharing the book. THAT gets hard, sometimes.

i remember when i was an undergrad at ut and i had to participate in an experiment as part of a psych class i was taking... we were given the briggs-meyer profile to get a bead on who we were and then after we took that we were sent individually to different rooms and were told "wait here and then someone will come in to discuss the results of your briggs-meyer profile.".
outside the door, the research assistant was timing how long we'd wait before opening the door to find out what was taking so damn long..... .
How long did you wait? What were the results of the experiment? I am taking Abnormal Psychology right now. Did anyone become phobic while waiting?
