Something is wrong with my dad...

i keep prooving to my dad how fucked up this religion is, how it lies, and how it is willing to call jesus and the prohets liars if it comes down to the wire to justify it's existance as a religion.

the only thing i did not show him is the faulty logic that is used in their litaruature.. sometimes he starts getting it and trying to listen, but if i don't say anything to him for a long time, and go off and do my own thing (studying by myself for a couple months), i come back and he'll be back to complete brainwash mode.

and the sad thing is he does not go to the meetings, and when he did (very rarely) i'd go and prove to him how the organization is wrong!

Perhaps this will not be welcomed advice, but as a mother I can tell you that you sound as if you are speaking disrespectfully to your father.

Although I no longer am a JW, I reserve the right to worship as I choose. Your father deserves this right, also. He evidently does not want you to be constantly "at him" concerning JWs. Please calm down, and at a later time, perhaps you can have a respecful discussion with him.

Secondly, I certainly hope you do not pepper your discussion with the F word, as you are doing in your post. (see number three on the posting guidelines) You can verbalize your feelings and information without resorting to crass words that probably will not impress upon him your sincerety.

Introducing myself

i'm mostly here to meet new like minded friends.

growing up in the religion has jaded my perspective.

most of my believes the wts is bs, but there is that part in the back of my mind that fears they have the truth.

Really sad thing is, as I sit here preparing a talk for next week, it's actually making me feel il, my gut feels wrenched and my heart heavy. Obviously I am being two faced in doing this(which I hate, it's not me). I have thought about letting go of all privileges, staying on the fringes and hopefull keeping my friends. Without them I will have none! After all, I have been doing this for 30 or so years.

Many of us have felt the "gut wrench" and "heavy heart." My husband and I left after 30+ years...he was an elder for twenty. It was very hard going from being included in everything, congregation and social, to having no friends. It does get better, though, with time. Please take things slowly, and do research for a time. Plan your exit.

As a poster on here said, "Better to have questions you can't answer, than answers you can't question."

They have a table at the local Walmart now

omg i just heard this morning that they have a table set up at the local walmart, so i had to drive by.

it is huge with two huge signs one spanish and one english of blown up pictures of some of the book covers like you can live forever and young people ask, etc with a card table in the middle and two very boarded looking people just sitting there.

this morning was the spanish congo's turn but the walmart is in my halls territory so the english speaking ones from my hall will man it on the english speaking times i guess.

This is what I'd like to do if I saw them set up a table.....make a sign that said:

"Ask us about the Overlapping Generation new light" or

"Ask us if the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah will be resurrected" or

"Ask us about shunning family members" or

"Ask how our doctrine is to die rather than take whole blood but we can take it in fractionated parts but will not donate any of our own"

and then discretely stick it to the front of the table so that it hung down just where they couldn't see it.

Sadly, that has been the experience of many. Guilt and fear of not being good enough or doing enough were instilled in us constantly at the KHall.

Now that you are "out" you are in control. Did you complete your education? It can do wonders for your self-esteem and confidence. It does not matter what age you are, you can do it!

Second, a wise poster once said, "Better to have questions I can't answer, than answers I can't question." We may never find out "where truth lies in this world." No one, it seems, really is "a channel of truth from God" such as the Watchtower organization claims.

Please take time to step back, look at a beautiful sunset or sunrise, and enjoy your day with your child.

Disfellowshipped.... a question

so... if there's anyone from bethel or an elder who could comment on this question i would appreciate it.

i am beyond understanding this..... my sister's daughter - (my neice - not a jw) is getting married to a young man (not a jw) in a few weeks.. her dad is df'd - so is our brother.. apparently my other sister and her "elder" husband can attend the wedding if the bride's df'd father is in attendance but not if her df'd uncle (our brother) is there.. please.... i just don't get it!!!!

there's df'd and then more df'd????

According to their own rules, no one is supposed to be associating with df'd people, unless it is family business that must be taken care of. This opens the way for interpretations.

Some view weddings as family business, others would not speak to a disfellowshipped relative under any circumstances. I remember many years ago, an elder stating that if his mother was disfellowshipped and he saw her on the side of the rode needing a ride, he would not stop. Others, as you stated, will have ones in their homes, if they deem them worthy, as in "not dangerous."

I am sure that it must be frustrating to go through all of this. It should be a happy day for the bride and groom, but is probably equaling stress!

i have never have invited ladies that fast especially from the store to my home, but i wonder if i should have invited her right away???

i was waiting at the line and there was a gorgeous lady, she said hi first to me.

No, don't invite someone to your home that you do not know from anything.

Meet in a public place until you get to know her. Maybe I am old and cynical, but there was a movie with Clint Eastwood years ago, called Play Misty For Me in which a man started dating a woman who became fixated on him and stalked him at his home. Perhaps you have also seen news articles with similar things that happened.

If you want a relationship with someone, make a friend first. You can't go wrong that way.

What amount of Borg demise would you consider victory?

there's always a lot of discussion about "bringing down the wts" and how it will "never happen" because they'll just keep going and going.. so here's my question.

granted that barring some major international changes of a catastrophic scifi nature the wts is going to exist in some shape or form for the next hundred years and probably more, what progress on the "apostate" front would you personally consider a success?.

would you simply be happy to have all of your blood relatives out?.

What exactly would you consider a victory over Borg tyrrany?

I would just like them to be up-front with their history, and flip-flops over the years. Let people make a truly informed choice before they are baptised....most (like me) never knew the real history of their teachings....things like pyramids, the pliades, etc.

I feel that their organization attract a much smaller amount of people.

Unfortunately, there are some who would still choose to join, but at least they would be fully informed.

i want to take this opportunity to start a thread inspired the poster dark side.. sometimes people come across on here as mean spirited or hopelessly grumpy.

and it's obvious when you read their posts that they are good people and really just need some soothing healing love.

so please, use this thread to spread some soothing, healing love to anyone, especially the social porcupines.

There are a few things that truly piss me off. Stupidity, apathy, hypocrisy and a lack of personal responsibility are at the top of the list. So, when I encounter those things on the board, I happily point them out.

This reminds me of an old saying, "Oh, what gift the giftie give us, to see ourselves as others see us."

Eventually, after living many years(which I have), we come to realize that we also at times have said stupid things, been apathetic, acted with hypocrisy, and lacked personal responsibility. Usually, however, at the time we did or did not do these things, we could not see the lack in ourselves.

With age there comes a time when we realize this, and usually become a bit more humble, and understanding of others.
