If only I knew then what I know now. As P.T. Barnham once said, "There's a sucker born every minute."
I was one for overy thirty years.
british astronomer sir john hershel, it was reported in the chicago sun times, made some extraordinary discoveries on the moon!.
the year was 1835. this famous astronomer reportedly had discovered life on our moon.. all manner of strange and wonderful creatures including men with wings like bats had been observed using a new and powerful telescope.. .
fire-wielding biped beavers and batmen were quite extraordinary discoveries indeed!.

hello, lately in our local newspaper i've noticed a weekly column that is written by a current elder.
when i left 6 years ago he was the po.
and for some added background info , if he saw someone who was df'ed or "spiritually weak" he would go out of his way, and do his best to avoid them.
I like to take walks, also. What is wrong with giving a friendly greeting to a fellow human being?
I always say hello, and some greet me back, and some don't.
I was in a model home not too long ago, because I like to get decorating ideas. The realtor (or maybe just an employee that sits with the house) that was there was middle aged (like me) and was dressed in a top that matched her nice blue eyes. I made the comment to her that she looked very put together today. She smiled and said that I had made her day and that I couldn't know how much the nice comment meant to her. It certainly made me feel good to know that I'd been there when she needed a kind word.
Maybe you could carry your sociological experiment even further. Do you have any other hats? How about no hat one day? Continue keeping your log and see if any interesting patterns emerge!
i spilled 5 gallons of boiling water over my leg at a clam bake.
avoid that if at all possible.
ended up in the burn ward & went through a skin graft.
So sorry to hear you were burned! But how wonderful that you got to see your daughter. Are you going to have to injure yourself on a regular basis in order to see her again?
Is a clam bake boiling the clams?
i am not sure if anyone cares, but the drama with my mother and me leaving the org continues.. apparently after todays craptower she goes on a spastic rant that because of my decision i am slowly killing her and my father.
the funny thing is i do not feel bad over this... i can't.. i have children and a wife of my own that i need to be happy for.
i love them - but as they get older and closer to death i realize that a new season is coming and imust care for my family the best way i can... the same way they thought they were doing.
I read mom's letter.
Here's another way to look at it. She is a most loyal Jdub, and you can't fault her for that. However, she certainly seems to love you, and of course, wants the best for you. It's just that the best as she sees it is in the organization. Think back to a time when you also would have felt the same way if she and your dad had left the organization.
How about just thanking mom for her loving concern? Appreciate that you do have parents that love you. Mine are gone now, and all too soon yours will be also.
Could you just ask that you not discuss the matter for awhile? Maybe just tell them you have to think a few things out on your own. Probably skip the part where you thing the WTS is rotten, etc.
Maybe you can have somewhat of a relationship. Under the circumstances, it is better than nothing.
Hope the best for you.
hi there, this is my first post, but i've been buzzing around this site for years.. i got married at 18, hubby was 20, i was a regular pioneer and we were talking about serving in bethel.
fast forward - i left in 2004 after a 5 year battle with my conscience, family and friends who kept insisting that i was just "weak and needed to have another bible study".
however hubby and i stayed together although it was kinda on the understanding that we would just not talk about it.
I don't know the legal ramifications of your situation, but wanted to welcome you to the forum.
It is too bad that JWs encourage marriage so young. I hope that you are finally able to start reaching some goals that you've always wanted but could not because of your circumstances.
i really like this site and some of the comments i've read.
i was in the organization for 31 years and now i'm free!.
recently left the organization and am trying to rebuild my life.
I was on vacation and didn't see your post. Just wanted to add my welcome. Soooo glad you and your husband are out together. My husband and I were in for over thirty years. He was an elder for twenty. We are out together along with our daughter who is now twenty-five.
Breath the air and enjoy your freedom!

Thanks, Oubliette, for identifying the cut.
Here in Texas brisket is the main thing...you also have to cook this slowly for a long time or it can be like shoe leather. But cooked correctly it is indeed delicious with barbeque sauce.

Well, I know what horse manure is, but what is tri-tip? I gather that it is beef from the mention of barbeque, but what part? I guess I've just never heard the term...I'm in Texas...we have lots of barbeque beef here (as well as horse manure).
i was raised as a jw from the age of 7. i was df'd for apostasy in 1971 at the age of 23. it has been 42 years since i have had contact with any jehovah's witnesses, including my family.
last year i moved to tucson.
when i read that a district assembly was coming to town, and that it would be at the convention center only minutes from my house, i decided to check it out.
Welcome to the group. Glad you had a good time with the placard at the convention and got to meet some apostates!
I also was wondering about your family. They never tried to contact you? I can't understand how a mother could just never know if her son was alive or dead and not want to have some sort of relationship even if limited.
My daughter was df'd as a sixteen year old for some normal kid stuff-she was berated, humiliated, and treated horribly by a committee of five "spiritual shepherds." Her dad and I finally had enough of them....we are all out together. In the following almost10 years no one from the KHall has inquired as to whether she is still alive. She went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biology but there will always be some residual emotional scarring.
Oh the stories that you will read on this forum. It is good to have you with us.
i stopped going to meetings over a year ago!
yay...me!!
it was the body of elders that led me to my disgust with the org.
Just wanted to welcome you. I've been on vacation and see new ones are here!! What happened with your daughter?
