why are jws so afraid of apostates?

their view of apostates seems to be out of the realm of the ordinary, the natural.

its as if the words of apostates are supernatual or spiritistic as if apostates are some kind of jedi knights who can slightly wave their hands or twitch their eyes and bring one under a spell.

It really is rather understandable. They are afraid because words are powerful. Who was it that said the pen is mightier than the sword? Once information enters a person's mind, it cannot easily be forgotten; especially if it calls into question what the WTS says. They know this. They can't afford to let people think for themselves, that's why they let the rank and file know "All the research has been done for you."

Also, that is why they so vehemently try to discourage "higher education." They don't want people to think for themselves.

So, yes, we (or I'll speak for myself) apostates have power-pretty heady stuff for me-I am a sixty-two year old woman. I never was considered powerful in the Watchtower organization!

Upcoming Surgery and Blood

i am a newly unbaptised publisher.

recently i found out i need to have major surgery and the jw's tried to rush a blood card in my hand.

i was so relieved when the elders said i could not have one until i was baptised.. but they rushed to get me copies of the blood videos.

Hey, Hey There. Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you have taken care of everything and are a strong person. You will need to be because the JWs will try to pressure and guilt you into becoming one. They also may make things hard for your husband (your husbandly owner according to the WTS) and "encourage" him to have more control over you and your decisions.

not sure of the point of telling my story, but just got off the phone with my grandma and i am so angry, stressed and i don't know what else...i guess i just wanted to hear from someone other than my husband that i'm not crazy for my reaction to family interaction.. my condensed story gramatical errors and all :).

father was a born in jw, mother was a convert.

i was born the last of 3 siblings and shortly after my birth in 1981 my parents divorced.

It sounds to me as if you have grown to become a strong, self-assured woman (even if you sometimes don't feel it due to your past).

Have you been able to reconnect with your mother?

So sorry to hear this news. Yes, the longer we live, the more friends and loved ones we will lose-even though the WTBTS told us we'd never grow old or die.

My Mom is in the hospital

my mother broke her hip last week.

she had an emergency partial replacement surgery friday night.

we don't know how she did it as we have caregivers with her at all times, she may have fallen while in the bathroom for a few minutes.

JeffT, so sorry to hear about your mom's declining health. What a wonderful tribute paid to her for her service to mankind. I am sure you are very proud.

Both of my parents are gone. It is hard, very hard no matter how old they are when they leave us, but you will be comforted by knowing that you have been with her and done all you could to help her and keep her comfortable.

Here is a cyberhug and I will keep you in my thoughts.

Avoid Going back to the JW's - Educate Yourself about Mind Control

i've talked with some good friends on the board about this before and we seem to be in agreement : one reason ( among many ) that some disfellowshipped jw's go back and return to the wt organization is because they are full of uneeded guilt or uneeded fear because they haven't educated themselves about how the wt society uses mind control tactics to deceive them into thinking they have " nowhere else to go " .

i understand that some dfed ones may go back to the organization for family and friends- however- it's an exrecise in futility because once you learn the truth about the truth you cannot undo what you heard.

so some may just go back and live a fake jw life to appease family- but just think of how that can damage a person's emotional and mental health playing the fake jw game the rest of their lives !

Hi flipper.

I don't have close family members in the WT. I spent thirty years keeping my "wordly" parents at arm's length--now they are gone and I'd give anything to spend time with them.

I just can't judge others and what they do. Miserable in the KHall and have family, or free and out? I don't know what I'd do if faced with that dilemma now. I feel for those who have lost or stand to lose family. But to go back for any other reason? No...............

I do know that I am so glad to be out of the control of the WTS.....

hello everyone it's nice to finally be able to post i had trouble getting emails last month and was never able to sign up.

please allow me to introduce myself.. i was born into a witness family and was baptized at a young age an was part of a small kingdom hall.

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?

i only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.

it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.

or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

I live in Houston, Texas. I knew many, many JWs. Haven't seen them in years. It is interesting that I don't see them in the grocery or Wal-Mart or Malls, either. It is like since I left they all just vanished--not that I'm complaining. I don't want to see them, and hope I never again do.

Perhaps some that were really thinkers are out now. I can only hope. On the other hand, I can think of several that deserve to sit at the KH for hours every week listening to the same drivel and "new light."

Glad you are here and getting good advice. Now is the time to ask questions; after a person is baptised, asking questions is considered "being critical" of the organization. My husband and I were JWs for over thirty years. So glad we are no more. They slowly indoctrinate you until you have no opinions of your own and do not think for yourself.

You are to follow the dictates of the "faithful and discreet slave" which is the governing body of men in New York. You must believe every pronouncement from the Watchtower magazine, and when the doctrine changes, you must not discuss "old doctrine" but merely go immediately with whatever the change is!

What you do is up to you, and it sounds like you do not rush into anything without a lot of thought. This will serve you well.
