For this to be a "local needs" part, there has to have been some sort of oooooh-apostate talk by one or more congregation members. When it gets to the point where there is a local need, it is usually because it is a concern of the elders and is becomming public knowledge. This talk lets the congregaion know there is danger about with this kind of thinking, and seeks to quash it immediately!!!

What led you to think that the Watchtower had God's approval?
by JH in.
when you were a jw, what led you to think that the watchtower had god's approval?.
just because they said so??

Well, it was the fact that they do not go to war and so do not kill fellow witnesses. I am still grappling with this. I can't go out now and sing I'm a yankee doodle dandy as I think a truly godly person would imitate Jesus in being peaceful. Any suggestions?

HELP!! ADVICE....Saying NO to pioneering
by Kristofer ini have a female friend who i've been discussing the religion with.
she definitely has doubts about the org but isn't sure on leaving just yet as she has still got about 6 months to go being a minor dependent on the parents.
lately, she's been getting heavy pressure to start pioneering.

Could she get a job or look to further her education? Pressure is not a good reason to do anything. I''m with the poster who said that elders are always encouraging pioneering but are the ones who seldom do it themselves.

Almost forgot, Restrangled. You state that this is the fluff topic of the day. I disagree totally!!!! I feel that this is a most important topic.
Many on this forum were made to feel bad about their talents or abilities as they were growing up. They had to go without an education or work at dead-end jobs because they wanted to please the Organization and/or perhaps families. They felt guilty like I did for wanting to learn, and make enough money to take a vacation. Many who post here have insightful comments. I'm sure many could have pursued interesting careers or endeavors had they been encouraged. I also would like to know what interests others have.
Thanks for starting this topic.

Well, even while I was in I wanted to go back to college. Had one year before becomming a witness. Hubbie said no-bad example to set. He was an obedient elder. Finally, it seemed that the Society softened its stance a bit, so I started in again. The class that I dearly loved was geology. I would never have guessed. I also have a great interest in paleontology. Only trouble is, I am over 50 now and must work full time at a low paying job because I had not finished any higher education. By the time I will get a degree, no one would hire me as a geologist. I will continue to go, though, because even at my age the discoveries are exciting. Learning is a pleasure.(except math)
At least my family is all out now, I do not feel guilty about my child getting a proper education so that she can take care of herself.

"deliver us from the wicked one and from every sort of lawlessness" - matt 6:13, titus 2:14. .

Of course, even though higher education is unnecessary and evil, the Society is very much willing to use lawyers. Bet they are glad some don't follow their advice,

Class action suit?
by Quandary in.
i haven't been on line for a while so please excuse my ignorance.
is there a pending class action lawsuit against the society?.
-

There is a web site about the law firm Love and Norris. Yes, they are looking to have a class action suit. Right now I think they have a specific set of criteria to be involved.
By the way, you'll notice that my alias is Quandry. I didn't know you were on here, since we spell the word differently. Apparently we feel the same, however!!!!

FROM the source about downsizing
by Pistoff ini toured wallkill in the last month; the tour guide stated, in very clear terms, that the wt leadership is "sending home" many older couples and older ones, and replacing them with younger ones as they need to.
he did say it was because their experience was of more use in the field.
(snicker.

So do I get this straight? They lived at Bethel where they had a room, cleaned regularly, went to the dining hall for regular meals, and possibly went to the K.Hall right in the building since they were older. Now, will they get some sort of living accomodations? They may not even know how to cook, let alone have furniture and cooking utensils.Plus, they are old, but expected to be special pioneers? Is this true?

Yes, welcome SirNose. I am new here also. Very disheartening to find out about all the changes. I was a young person, just baptised in 1973. I do remembe the 1975 thing. Not just a few misguided people. When I was studying with the witnesses in 1971, I asked the sister conducting how much more time she thought we had since I had just found out we were so close to the end. About two more years, she told me. Wow, I thought. I'm glad my husband and I got in just in time!!!! I remember the saying. "Stay alive 'till 75!"
I also kept reading that the generation that saw 1914 and were at an age of understanding would still be here when the big A came. When they saw "new light" about the generation, I wanted to ask why the Awake magazine for so many years said it was building confidence in us that the ones here in 1914 would by no means pass off the earth till Armaggedon was here. Of course, I was afraid to ask a question like that. I knew immediately how it would be viewed. I was even afraid to discuss it very much with my husband, an elder by this time.
I also heard statements that not all J.W.s would live through Armaggedon. This sort of commenting always is disheartening. I always felt that I was never doing enough. My presentations were never good enough, my comments not good enough, etc. I began to get very anxious before an assembly or convention, knowing that most of the talks would be, "Can you do MORE?"
At any rate, sounds like many of us are feeling the same way here.
