Introducing myself

i was raised a jw, third generation.

grampa was a congregation servant and then elder, my dad was an elder for years.

i made it up the ranks fast, you were not anybody if you did not become an elder, i was appointed at an early age.

Up in the air--It's SKY KING!!!! I used to watch this program on Saturday mornings when I was a child.

I am angry for you and your Dad. You and your dad were not accused of being a fornicator, a liar, an idolator, a glutton, a murderer, or anything else. You were simply men who loved God and knew the truth about what the Society did. When the announcement was made about you and your dad, naturally the congregation assumed that you were guilty of some heinous sin. Did some of them know? This knowledge would certainly make me stop and think if I were in the congregation and heard what happened.

So let's see--if we know that an elder was at a motel with a prostitute, since he is appointed by Holy Spirit, we should not tell what we know because it will cast him in a "bad light?"

This type of reasoning makes my blood boil. This gives the WTS license to do anything it wants, legal or not, scriptural or not, loving or not, but if we find out, we must not say as it won't make them lood good to the rank and file!!!!

In other words, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING!!!!

Bethel Letter to Publishers (US Bethel Layoffs)

I am afraid that I will have to take issue with your view that the ones who have been asked to leave Bethel face a dim future.

First of all, as we know, the Society has assured us that years of reading WT and Awake magazines is equivalent to a college education. Therefore, these older ones should have absolutely no trouble getting positions in the community. Look for many new doctors, lawyers, business executives, etc. in the areas that they are sent to.

Second, there will be a boost to the local economy as these new residents begin using their stipend of $500 a month to finance businesses, down payments on houses, vehicles, furniture for homes, washers and dryers, cooking utensils, etc.

Think also of the excitement of a new life as these older ones, some of whom have not cooked a meal for themselves or washed their own clothes in years, experiment with new recipes, and perhaps enjoy new color patterns in garments.

Last but not least, think of the joy the extended families of these experienced ones will encounter as they support these former workers while they are awaiting the executive positions that are sure to come their way.

As many of them may not be able to drive, coming from the WT Headquarters, look forward to a bussload coming to a city near you!!!

well my wife is now out.

we never really discussed the issues i had with the troof, although she of course new what some of them were.

Family moving; Need input

i'm in a family of five and we are planning on moving, however... i'm going to da myself shortly after finishing school.

i want to wait because i won't be 18 'till april and could therefore be forced to attend the meetings.

so here is the issue, they are looking for a house that can comfortably fit five people, we have found several great houses that would work wonderfully for four people, but we are going the long and expensive way so that we can fit all of us comfortably.

Since you are asking for opinions, I'll give mine. I am over fifty and have certainly lived long enough to know that things don't always work out as planned.

Don't be hasty with decisions today about your plans for tomorrow. What if you want to move out but can't find a job? What if you find a job but can't find a roomate and can't afford to live by yourself?

Maybe if you are still "in" Dad might foot the bill for college.

Just don't jump out of the frying pan into the fire. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Look before you leap.

All old sayings but really good for letting you know to weigh all options, first. Time passes oh so quickly. Be patient.

Now what?

i had chemo today and i feel terrible.

when i got home i was expected to cook dinner and have the clothes washed since i didn"t work today.. the owner of the business expects me to go to the tax central appraisal district and represent him on the personal property tax for the business.

i just went to bed and had nausea today maybe i will be ok tomorrow and get all the things done i need to.. peace ya"ll.

Does the GB truly beleive they are being used by God

what do you think?.

i have a hard time accepting the fact that intelligent men truly beleive the creator has a special arrangement with them and somehow they are being used in a special position because of one scripture about the faithful and discreet slaves.. they should all be locked up in a nut house for beleiving that.

I have a question for you. Does the person you know read every letter sent? Has he ever mentioned it? I ask because my family has been sending letters galore to the "Service" Department (a real misnomer) and I think that after awhile they just use them to paper bird cages.

Do you know if this "brother" or his area have pet birds?

Does he ever comment on any of the letters sent?

what a revelation!

this is my first post and what a revelation this site has been to me (excuse the pun) if only this had been available when i walked away from the "truth" in 1987, it would have made life a lot more bearable for me.. i was brought up a jw and was baptized at 14 because i thought it was the right thing to do, endured a very strict upbringing combined with the dreadful routines of worship, study and door knocking.

we were deprived of any enjoyment (tv, friends, outings, fun, etc).

education was a bit of a disruption, having moved to where the need was greater our schooling was interrupted so many times we never made any friends.

Solo- You have quite a story. I will have to give you a great big "You go, girl!" because it certainly took lots of guts to do what you did. Glad your folks decided they couldn't live with themselves shunning you for the rest of their lives.

I AM SUCH A KLUTZ! Hello!

i've been lurking here and reading for a couple of months now.

i was also a jw for a few years but got myself dfed when i started asking difficult questions, wouldn't stop asking them, and kept pointing out how the wts didn't make any sense.

i am an unrepentent rebellious one who was warned and publically reproved until finally i finally had it out with the elders and they showed me the door.

The preacher said 'Since they only believed in one God and one Lord, Jehovah, why would they refer to the unborn baby Jesus as "MY LORD'?

Well, I thought it was because at this time they were looking for the messiah, who would be the Christ, the Lord. So Mary was really the mother of her cousin's Lord.

It is all in the semantics.

Anyway, welcome.

As you can see by my name, I do not know what to believe anymore, really. But I never believed in the Trinity doctrine. What this minister said doesn't prove anything to me, just that maybe you were stuffed from the food and drink and were worn down after three hours and lots of pizza and coke.

Like the posters here said, don't jump now on another bandwagon of stuff that sounds good without investigation completely. Some of these guys sound soooooo convincing, yet he may disagree with the next minister.
