Evolution is a Fact #12 - Lenski's E. coli Experiment
by cofty inevolution works by the non-random selection of random mutation.
natural selection accumulates favourable random chance events.. the experiment that was began on 24th february 1988 on e coli bacteria by dr richard e. lenski and his team is surely one of the clearest demonstrations of the power of this process.. e.coli is one of the commonest bacterium on earth, there is around 100 billion, billion of them in the world at any given time and around 1 billion of them in your gut right now.
most of the time they cause no problem, until a new strain wreaks havoc on its host's digestive system.. if we assume the probability of a particular gene mutating to be 1 in a billion, the size of the population is so high that just about every gene in the e.coli genome will have mutated somewhere in the world every day.

Clambake why don't you try to bring something to the discussion rather than attacking cofty in every single one of his threads. Cofty shares very interesting facts in his own words and all you can come up with is calling him names. Funny cofty shows so much more grace in deflecting your harassment than you someone who is arguing for a creator. Actually I don't know what you believe because all you do is attack rather without offering an alternative. -

by lurkernomore inso i was just reading a thread and came across a completely new jw 'rule', that of not being allowed to go fishing!..
at least it's new to me as i always enjoyed fishing as did others in my old congregation.

Is there a link to where you read this? Living in the Pacific Northwest pretty much everyone fishes and hunts. It's more rare if they don't. -

Don't give up on her. My wife was very upset and threatened divorce when I came clean about not wanting to be a witness. Fast forward roughly 2 years later and my wife is now awake. This doesn't always happen but there are success stories.
I found when I stopped trying to deconvert her and I just let the cults tactics work for themselves she started noticing things on her own. I had planted those seeds and her natural reason ability did the rest.

I got my associates and it was the best decision I ever made. I was sick of the typical janitorial witness work and I was in my early 20's so I went for it and graduated last year. It opened my eyes to a whole other world and helped me wake up because it made you realize your little JW world view is not all there is. I got a little resistance from my wife at the time and some raised brows from one in the hall but nothing to bad. And it didn't hurt that my degree helped me get into a new field and am now making better money than I ever would have otherwise.
I'm now awake and haven't attended a meeting in 2 years and in the last 6 months my wife has gone from Watchtower defender, though she wasn't attending meeting either, to waking up herself. She sees the hypocrisy and much of the org makes her sick though I think she still believes some of the core teaching and is a believer of sorts. But she constantly is making remarks about things wrong with the Org and even the Bible. Oh and she is now attending college :)

The massive gaping hole in Watchtower's understanding of Matthew 25:31-40
by Island Man in(matthew 25:31-40) .
.when the son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit down on his glorious throne.
32 all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

Going Nuclear - Marriage
by Sofia Lose inhas anyone here gone nuclear on their spouse and, all of a sudden, came out in the open as a jw opposer?.
by this i mean, sitting them down and saying: i no longer want to be a jw anymore, do not want to go to meetings or preaching anymore!
and, what has happened in the relationship after that?.

Yup last year my wife was asking me what our plans were for convention. I said "Yeah i was thinking about not going.. chuckle chuckle". This caught her off guard and I couldn't hold it in any longer. I told her the witnesses were a cult and I wanted nothing to do with them. Fast forward to now my wife hasn't been to a meeting in over a year other than memorial and just lately she has told me she has been reading up on the Australian royal commission and about how BS some of the witness dogma is like the cross etc. I think she is finally waking up. After the initial blow up I took a step back and only shared things with her periodically. We had quite a rough patch for awhile but things have been much better since the beginning of the year or so. -

Fishermen you are so full of shit. Nothing about treatment of DF'd people is kind they haven't softened if anything they are worse than they used to be. And by only fanatical Jdubs shunning their family I assume you mean 99.9%? I'm not df and I'm shunned by everyone except my parents even though people only know I'm inactive nothing else. When you have watchtowers telling the rank and file to not even send an email to a Df'd family member how can you dare say dfing is something they do on their own? It's drilled into their heads by this cult.About DF, it has softened. It used to be the disgracing publicly of an individual with a talk following the DF rebuking the related person about his sins. Public reproof was also hard. And then, the stern look from the elders and the looks of contempt from the others. Now, a person is DF privately although the cong is informed later that the person is no longer JW. Relatives still deals with him, although some people are fanatical and completely shun a family member not having anything to do with him, but that is something that they do on their own. The cong also deals with the DF JW with kindness and encourages that one from time to time to come to the meetings. The DF person is greeted at the meetings by some and also when seen on the street. Everything considered though, if the person makes no effort at all, or is advocating breaking the rules or brazenly breaking the rules, then it depends. But if the DF person is making some effort, then he is treated with kindness and reminded that he is a brother. Multi DF has been discussed at assemblies encouraging such to get up from their many falls. Anyway you cut it though, getting DF or reproved is a disgraceful thing, it is hard. The elders will never let you forget it and even if the person is ever used again in office, it is not the same as with someone that was never was dishonored. How do you live down something like that? You can't. You know it and so does everybody else.

Exposing one's identity. When?
by kairos ini've been toying with the idea of just coming out and posting my name and location as an attempt to be available to locals that secretly browse the forum that have known me for up to 25 years.
( "reaching out", so to speak ).
i'm not da'd or df'd, so this most certainly could end in a dramatic confrontation.

Kairos I understand you not wanting to attend your JC....BUT... this is a perfect opportunity to get another secret recording exposing their hypocrisy and just how horrible this cult is! And its damn entertaining I have started researching secret cameras in the event I get an official summons. So far haven't needed it. But if I do I will be sending links to the video to everyone I want to know before any announcements are made.
