hawk was most helpful in supplying letter to the board here a day or so ago re: wtbts membership of dpi un.. i rang the media department in london today who said that they were well aware of the letter and its contents.. asked why the organisation seems to be in contradiction to its litureture the wt and awake, concerning the beast of revelation, i was told by the department that the society has never been affiliated to the un.
the only reason why they belonged to the dpi was to access their, (the un), library resources.. i asked if the comments (non-affiliation) could be sent to me via email.
i was told that that was not nessarsary as the un had already supplied information.
Go Mommy! Make 'em sweat!!
On another note, if Mr. Gillies letter was published (as is) in response to Mr. Bates' article, his immediate goals will be accomplished. I looked at that letter once. The first thing I noticed was how he said Mr. Bates' articles had some mistakes in it (I'm paraphrasing from memory). This will be the first thing witnesses latch on to. Innacuracies or Mistakes in the article. So, if Mr. Gillies letter is published as is, it will look as though Bates' article is riddled with mistakes. The fact that Mr. Gillies letter is riddled with mistakes, if not outright lies, will not be addressed in a letter to the editor type of forum. Bates would have to take him on in a written debate in order for Bates' counter-points to be heard.
I'm not familiar with the guardian, but I would be interested to see how they will make use of Gillies statements. A letter to the editor type reprint of Gillies letter would be very problematic as a direct response from Bates wouldn't usually be included in that sort of forum. However, if Bates' incorporates Gillies response into another article it could be quite helpful.
In other words:
If letter from Gillies published in letter to editor forum: points go to gillies for scoring the last word(even though he's lying through his teeth).
If Bates takes him on in his column: points to Bates (cause Gillies is lying through his teeth).
Does anyone know what sort of use Bates will have for this response letter? Will it appear as written in the paper?

Hi Catholic Guy,
Do you have any emails or websites for those papers? I don't have access to a fax so I've been emailing instead. I'd gladly send back up emails. I won't have time to look for those email addresses today so if you have them, that would help. Thanks for your help, by the way.

Okay, I couldn't resist. I sent a release to The Kentucky New Era after reading Nic's posting of their free speech article. Likelihood that they'd turn around and confront the controversy after backing "free speech" witness-style? ...about zip! But I emailed it just for fun knowing that it would probably be disregarded.
This is the address I sent it to:

Hi,
I lightly revised my press release to reflect that both current and former members alike are troubled by the UN situation. Just so you know, I know of no newspaper that would publish a press release. Instead they'll assign somebody to research and write an article based on the interest ignited by press releases/calls/letters. I would like to encourage everyone to take Lone Wolf's advice and consider emailing/calling/faxing media outlets multiple times to see if we can conjure up a little interest in the issue. I have sent my release to the following outlets:
Christian Science Monitor:
Send the release to " [email protected]" and direct it to the attention of David Cook, Editor
617.450.7034
Associated press:

fax 212 621 7520
Boston Phoenix:
Please send letters to the editor, press releases, and article
commentary to [email protected]
>The Boston Globe:
"news tip from extranet" should be your email header.

If any of you have releases or statements of your own and would like to email them as well, that might help generate interest. I think the squeaky wheel approach might be the best way to go. Please consider contacting these outlets. Also, I will send my release to a media outlet that you've contacted if you post the email address here.
We need to make a little noise if we want people to get interested.
Let's get the word out. Anybody willing to email/fax/call my sources?
thanks!
please go to the un letter & 1992 press release thread to see response.. a lot of you may have already been copied on the letter and steve's response back to them.. hawk
Unbelievable. If we could only get copies of the original application...
hey rem,.
i saw your post in the astrology thread and decided to start a new discussion here about keirsey.
i noticed how many people have been enjoying the silly little emode tests and immediately thought they'd really be amazed by keirsey.
I'm also an idealist. Strange that there are three listed here so far when you consider how they aren't supposed to be that common. Coincidence?
"Idealists are rare, making up no more than 8 to 10 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers."
as of 6:02 pm last night i received a facsimile from paul hoeffel at the un on the wts.. he gave me 3 of the 4 things i requested in two paragraphs.. i have sent a scanned version to steve bates and someone else.. i sent it to kent and randy.
and kent and randy have posted the official united nations letter on their web sites.. here is the letter - put your cursor on the image and then right click on your mouse and hit "save image" to your computer.. .
after you look at kent's web site and you people still think this it is a fake letter, phone paul hoeffel yourself at (212) 963-8070.. hawk
Hawk,
Doesn't this directly conflict with what you were told by the UN? Weren't there two signatures, including writing staff and gov. body, on the original app? Isn't the London Bethel response contrary to facts that show that:
a) the fundamental principles of the criterion for NGO affiliation have remained essentially the same
b) the watchtower did have yearly contact with the UN in the form of reports
I need a bit of clarification on this issue and will keep tuned in but I have to say this is weak response to the charge. Aren't most of Gillies claims easily disproveable?
Hawk, will you be sending this little tidbit to the UN?

Hi,
Lonewolf may have used excerpts from this release in contacting the press. He made some nice additions to it that I haven't included here because I don't have them on hand. You can use any portion of this as you see fit. I agree that it would be helpful if people could try to spread the word to the media. Any exposure on this issue would be wonderful.

Controversial Religious Sect's association with United Nations
Withdrawn as Ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses protest.
Former members of Jehovah's Witnesses recently made a scandalous discovery when they learned the Watchtower Bible And Tract Society, also known as Jehovah's Witnesses, had affiliated itself with the United Nations by soliciting to become an associated Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Current and former sect members responded by flooding the United Nations and The Watchtower's headquarters in Brooklyn with phone calls in protest. Former members allege that for years the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society has issued scathing statements in it's magazines and from the podium that malign the United Nations, dubbing it the "disgusting thing" and likening it to the "scarlet colored wild beast" of the bible. The Watchtower Organization seemingly bowed to pressure from former and current members by withdrawing its status just last week.
While a seemingly harmless affiliation to most of us, the
reckoning of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society's quietly
associating itself with the U.N. is the making of a substantial scandal for the controversial religious organization. Former members of Jehovah's Witnesses argued that the Watchtower Society has repeatedly painted a vile description of the United Nations and it's goals before an audience of about six million adherents. Recently, however, the United Nations received an unprecedented number of phone calls from outraged former members who stumbled upon the news that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, who made an art out of skewering the United Nations in it's publications, has been an affiliated NGO since 1992. Former members noted this position is a far cry from standing apart from the "disgusting thing" as the organization has repeatedly described it.
Stunned former members of Jehovah's Witnesses who discovered
The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society's association with the
United Nations, initiated a grass roots effort to draw attention to the situation that could prove enormously embarrassing to both the religious sect and the United Nations. This revelation could be highly detrimental to the credibility of Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in the eyes of both the United Nations and of the religious organization's millions of adherents. Former members allege that the sect misled the United Nations by petitioning to support and promote its purposes while simultaneously maligning it before the Watchtower Society's millions of faithful believers.
To further investigate this unfolding controversy, you may contact ____________.
Additionally, to verify and assist in your research you can contact the United Nations NGO Section at Tel: (212) 963-6842.

Here are some other media addresses that people might consider contacting. I focused on the state of Ohio as it might be of greater interest there due to the coverage of the pending supreme court issue.
Any takers in trying to contact them?
