  question: my friend who is df'd wishes to tell the elders that he won't be applying for re-instatement.

  my friend only recently decided he doesn't want back in and isn't really "out" emotionally yet.

  do elders really pay attention to df'd ones disappearing?

  Why would he want to tell the elders that he has no plans to apply for re-instatement?

  
  That's what i'm asking you, teejay! I haven't the faintest idea what's "normal" and what isn't for this type of situation! I thought it was odd too.

  My feeling on this, and this is only a guess, is that maybe he wants to believe that they are more loving and family like than they are and is clinging to that belief. It could be that he doesn't want to bother with them again, but it seems more like it's an attempt to hang onto a good thought about the group.

  These elders don't know him. He's switched around a couple of times in the past three years. This cong. is post-disfellowshipping so I'd imagine they hardly know him at all. He was attending for awhile in a df'd state but I just don't know what to think!

  He's a good guy though- maybe he doesn't want to be rude?(sounds crazy, I know, but if you knew him you'd know what I mean)

  Now, dung, you know I have the utmost respect for this place. What I mean by saying he'd be eaten alive is that I worry he'd log on and say how he thought it was the truth etc. etc. and be blown away by the amount of people who could argue that theory into oblivion. He's too fragile right now and I worry that he'd freak out and run away.

  I do have a nice fellow who emailed me and gave me his phone number and I might contact him to see if it's okay if I call. I don't think my friend would go for calling someone who left the group just yet. Bottom line...he's just not ready and I don't want to push him away.

  But, I hope you understand, I really appreciate this board and folks like you, Dung.

  Oh, by the way. He doesn't know how to tell his family yet. I'm sure I'll be asking for more advice/insight as that event gets closer to happening. I'm still on the sly- he doesn't know I'm posting here though he knows I've communicated with witnesses/former witnesses via the internet.

  Well, I wonder if he isn't putting a good spin on things in his own mind in an attempt to feel better. He feels he'll be disappointing others and that people will be concerned. I'm sure a handful of people will be concerned that he isn't planning on returning (though they are doing a good job of shunning him at the moment). He still thinks it's the troof, at least that what he said. Then again, he only told me of his plans last week and I'm probably among the first to know he's officially wanting out beyond the df thing.

  It seems to me like he isn't ready to be honest about much of anything yet. I was wondering if he was planning on notifying his congregation to get them to acknowledge him in some way? Is it a last ditch cry for help (despite his saying he probably would put a bullet in his head if he stayed in)? I don't really understand his motives so I'm left to theorize. I just wonder about how much these elders will care that he doesn't want to be reinstated (they hardly know him as he switched congs after getting ousted).

  He did start to speak up a bit about the things he missed out on as a kid (mostly sports). But other than that, he just says he doesn't want to go to meetings and the religion wasn't something he really made his own.

  At some point I'd like to work into getting him involved with speaking to people who've been there or a counselor, but he really doesn't seem ready yet. I think he'd be eaten alive here or it'd just be too much for him to handle. I'm going to try to get him to open up and we'll see if I can't get him to start addressing things a little more directly. This elder thing threw me for a loop though.

  "religious confession" HELP NEED INFO

  my cdrom disk is not working- does anyone have any infor that you have saved in your archieve that deals with "religious confession".

  on date line it was mentioned as a poster has brought out that the elder tried to invoke confession as a reason not to tell anyone.

  i would be interested to see what comments that the wt has made on the issue of confessions.

  Sorry, I don't have any info on this, JT, but I did want to add something.

  Even if someone were trying to invoke a "confession clause" isn't that trying to get off a technicality? SOLICITING a confession so as to not have to involve authorities?

  watchtower has been ordering their adherents to break federal and state laws regarding reporting of child abuse;.
