personally i hate bible ping-pong.
i don't think it ever gets anywhere, i don't think it solves anything and i don't think the participants ever make any head room.
however i will say in this case, i have been proven wrong.

i would like to know from everyone first of all what they think the difference is between a df'd person and a da'd person.. i would also like to know what everyone thinks that jw's think is the difference between a df'd and da'd person.. personally i am df'd.
i was df'd 10 years ago almost and did not argue it at all as i had no desire to continue as a jw anyway.
before being df'd i was always under the impression that if a person da'd themselves it almost always meant they were " apostate" and that there was no way a jw should have any contact with them.
reniaa.......the point of what?.........do you mean the point of my question or the point of df'ing and da'ing.....?
hoboken.....and pp I guess my questions may have been slightly more geared towards you as we know each other and while I was df'd for "fornication"......something I make no apologies for..................and you were df'd and da'd for apostasy.........do you, now that you have left, feel that you are different as an exjw than I am............
I hope this does not sound in anyway confrontational as it most certainly is not intended to be..........I was just wondering if it makes a difference......even though we know each other?
You see I feel like although we all (those on the board) may have been df'd and da'd for a general few reasons.......every single one of us has had a different situation or experience with it in some small way at least and every one of us may be at different stages too......like you said hoboken, some people have not realized when they were df'd what they were leaving but then again some people may have been very clear about their choices and each day find that it is reinforced.
The thing is we can never fully know everyone's situation and since we are all free to have our own beliefs........what may be classed by some as wrong some others may not think is wrong at all........................should we then see differences in people based on our beliefs or those of the person or should we just see humankind........and who we want to be?
OK I admit it I'm very bad at being philosophical........read into it what you will or think of me as a nutter if you choose.

since leaving the borg i have becom a total telly addict......we have a tv in the living room, the bedroom and one in the office and at least one of those is on throughout the day......it doesn't stop me doing things.......it's more like background sometimes but i do find that i watch a lot more than anyone else i know.. now i'm not interested in soaps at all........i do however like series and films and although i actually hate it i will be addicted to bb now that it is on.. once i find a series i like i watch it "religiously" (haha) from beginning to end...... such as........star trek voyager, stargate sg-1, stargate atlantis, medium, supernatural, grey's anatomy, ghost whisperer, 24, west wing, chuck, csi (all 3), criminal minds, big bang theory, curb your enthusiasm, er, desperate housewives, lost, nip/tuck, house, deadliest catch, brothers and sisters, .................i could go on and on but i think you get the picture.. the thing is i make no apologies for watching so much telly......i love it after having times when i was young when my parents would put the tv away for weeks to try and encourage us to study more and spend more time playing games...... how much telly do you watch........what do you watch and why?.

i know there was a thread started not that long ago about what book you are reading but i really wanted to start a thread about this particular book and it's subject.. i am about 2/3 the way through a book i got for my birthday called world war z by max brooks.
apparently it is going to be film sometime soon.. anyway the book is about a world crisis....zombies....please don't give up on this thread yet........the book is written as fact like a history book where a man is collating evidence for future generations so as to prevent another such crisis but is told to leave out all the humanity.....this results in the man writing his own book called "world war z" as he feels that future generations can only really learn from the humanity side of things as they will be able to relate to experiences rather than just facts.. throughout the book the man interviews survivor after survivor who relates their own experience and how it influenced or was influenced by the crisis.
now the man who actually wrote this book ...max brooks also wrote another book called "the zombie survival guide" and apparently it is a book which is encouraged reading for people in positions where they may be faced with any kind of crisis like this......effecting a large number of people, etc.. .
PrimateDave.....those are 2 excellent films....very much about survival and how easy it is for society to crumble and panic and things getting out of control.
Villabolo.......maybe it is just something I would have been interested in anyway then.............those two books you mentioned sound really good......the second one sounds a bit like a film that was out in recent years which I can't for the life of me remember the name of....."children of men"?......which I never actually got round to seeing and forgot about...I will need to put it back on my list.
Some of the films I have really enjoyed have been
28 days later, 28 weeks later, rec, quarantine, dawn of the dead, day of the dead, even films like the day after tomorrow, and for comedy value I can't miss out shaun of the dead......Simon Pegg is a genius...
I realize the titles mostly have "dead" in them but that kinda goes with the genre I think. I find that lots of people....mostly women tend to think I am a bit strange in that I find it all so fascinating....I mean I'm a girl and the women I know seem to be quite confused that I am not really interested in all the chickflick/lit bumf........I think they see me as a bit of an oddity.

I'm sorry this is so long-winded.......I am getting to the point......Since leaving the borg I have found that I love Zombie films, end of world films, any kind of film where society has to survive and then start over...........reading these books has really sparked in my mind that it may be because I was a witness that I enjoy these films so much..........after all isn't everything about being a witness geared towards waiting for armageddon when the "wicked" will be destroyed and then starting afresh.
So do you feel that there is a connection?
Do you like this type of film or story?
Do you think some major catastrophe or plague or something is possible or imminent in our future?
Any other comments?
I hope this hasn't come across as negative....I find it fascinating.........

i know- you aren't used to seeing me ask a simple question like this.
so- i'll start .
i am 49 years old, will be 50 in october .
I just turned 31 on the first of june there.......

i was baptized at 15 years old.
a brother toutjian gave the talk.
it was the circuit assembly.
I was baptized at 12 and I totall agree with primateDave.....it was like a rite of passage.
I was brought up a witness and it was expected of you.........I don't really remember feeling any kind of dedication in my mind....I just remember feeling like I had achieved a goal.......reached the next stage of being a jw.
I remember the date really well because it was the first of september 1990 which can read as 1.9.90 .....or 1990.
When I think back now it was the biggest mistake of my life as it meant that they could df me........I mean honestly, how can a 12 year old possibly be expected to make a decision like that......there is no way that at 12 I could ever have imagined meeting and falling in love with a non-jw...
.....heck, at 12 I was under the impression that one day that perfect jw would come along and we'd have some big old jw wedding and then I'd have babies while he went out and provided for us and he would always have the final say. Scary!......not the having babies part.....the not having a say part!

i was df'd for moving in with my then boyfriend (now husband).
that was ten years ago.. my husband and i lived together for about 5 and a half years before we got married.
from day one we both talked about getting married and having children in the future but we wanted it to be something more special than a quick juant to a registry office for appearances sake.
Thanks for everyone's comments.....
Robdar......sorry if my posts made you think it was something I was hung up on.....actually to the contrary I have no care as to whether other people agree with my decisions or not......
The reason I made the post was more out of curiosity........I recently met up with and spoke to some newly ex-jw's that I grew up with and so the messageboards called to me as they do every couple of years or so..........the topic was more one that I thought might be of interest and draw some comments from people.
I found that when I left the borg at first I had terrible nightmares......quite horrific ones.......and when I came on the ex-jw sites and started talking to people who understood what being a jw and ex-jw was all about the nightmares went away. I haven't had any of those nightmares for many years now but every so often I maybe get a chap at the door from jw's or something drags me back to the boards for a blether. I think I may have to stop shortly though as I tend to be quite compulsive with things like this and so after I have my blether about whatever pops into my head I tend to disappear from the boards again.
I hope that answers any concerns you may have. I've always been quite fond of playing devil's advocate and stirring things up a little.
Regards

i'm reading the trial, by franz kafka.
pretty interesting read so far, though i'm only about 90 pages into it.
it's about a man who is arrested, but no one will tell him what he's been charged with, or give him any information at all.
Ok I wasn't sure if I should post a reply to this as everyone else's answers sound so......civilised.......but....here goes.....
I've just finished reading another Richard Laymon book called "the glory bus".......this is not for the faint of heart or the easily offended or not very easily offended as all Richard Laymon books tend to be very gory, rude horrors.........I think maybe I like to be shocked.
Another book I have just finished reading is Martina Cole's The Business which was fantastic .....as are all Martina Cole books.......they all tend to centre around english gangsters but have a strong female character who throughout terrible hardships always gets the better of whoever or whatever is the enemy.
Minette Walters is also a good writer and of course Ben Elton's "dead Famous" and all his other books.

battlestar galactica is one of my most favorite of all tv shows, too bad it is over.
never watched the first series, but the new one is great.
mostly for the character development and the ethics issues it raises and addresses.
Dogpatch I love Battlestar gallactica..........I just love the thought of all that future technology. I also really liked all the stargate and stargate atlantis programs and films and the Sarah Connor chronicles although they stopped for a bit here and I missed when they started up again so I might just have to buy them or something.
Another program I have been getting into is The Big Bang Theory which is hilarious........if you haven't seen it....please watch it.
