i get the feeling many x-jws are floating about aimlessly and don't join christendom, still living with the jw indoctrinated belief that they are all the work of the devil.
does that make sense?
are they supposed to sit around in small groups in their living rooms reading scripture like ray franz recommended in crisis of conscience?
I think religion is the same as politics in that way.........Some political parties make sense to some people and not to others and vice versa.......That's why you get to vote for whichever party you want and it's a private decision which you are not obliged to share with anyone else.
Religions are the same........that's why they exist............lots of them have a lot of good ideals but all of them have something in them that doesn't make sense to at least one person in the world.......................that's why we have freedom of religion............I mean in a "worldly sense" haha.
Anyway I haven't joined another religion as I don't feel the need to..............however my husband is Catholic and I have no problem with my daughter being brought up Catholic as long as we teach her that it is not the only option and she will be free to make her own decision when she is older and understands it all.
With regards to beliefs I'm probably agnostic.............again I don't feel a need to define myself too much. There are so many things I will have to tell my daughter I don't know the older she gets............higher french.....how to fix a car.............at least those things I can learn and know as facts.......I could research and learn as much as I can about religion and or god and still never have a definite answer and that's something I will be honest with my daughter about.
Either way I don't feel the need to be part of a religion.

i am a lifelong jw, a born-in true believer for most of my life.
eventually i had the awakening and have been pulling away from the religion, even though we still attend meetings.
i am willing to keep up appearances if it means saving my relationship with my wife and our close family.
I think it's a lot like family.
Family can say pretty much say anything they want to about and even to each other but if an outsider does the same then they will come to their defense.
I think the same is true for your wife. She views the borg like family.......she's not happy with it but she'll still defend it. That means you have to be very careful about what you say. If she brings it up follow her line of conversation and just gently hint at things but not all the time........
I was df'd so I was cut off from the borg and my family before I got rid of any beliefs I might still have had........for a long time I didn't want to think about what I believed and even yet I still have no interest in doctrines or particularly in the bible.............if you and your wife da then you will most likely lose some or all of the contact with that family that you have in the borg.............this may also be in the back of your wifes mind and another reason why she might be trying to convince herself why she should still be a jw..............that's a lot to lose and it's scary to think about changing your whole life.............
I guess I think you should go easy............if you can lead a conversation but make it seem like she got there herself then something might just click......soft sell.

i just read a post there about "the village" and how it has similarities to jw life.......it was a good wee film and i can definitely see the links..... it made me think of other films and programs where the scenarios have a very familiar feel to them...... star trek being the obvious one with "the borg"....... "fiddler on the roof".........obviously this was not meant to be jw's........but the similarities were amazing and i remember thinking it was perfectly normal that a family would cut their daughter out of their lives simply because she fell in love with someone from a different background......oh how my feelings have changed!.
any more you can think of?.

personally i hate bible ping-pong.
i don't think it ever gets anywhere, i don't think it solves anything and i don't think the participants ever make any head room.
however i will say in this case, i have been proven wrong.
I have just watched 1-7 not got time right now to watch the rest.......but WOW........he is fantastic.....I really admire how he is able to keep his calm and keep control of the situation and the conversation........WOW!

i would like to know from everyone first of all what they think the difference is between a df'd person and a da'd person.. i would also like to know what everyone thinks that jw's think is the difference between a df'd and da'd person.. personally i am df'd.
i was df'd 10 years ago almost and did not argue it at all as i had no desire to continue as a jw anyway.
before being df'd i was always under the impression that if a person da'd themselves it almost always meant they were " apostate" and that there was no way a jw should have any contact with them.
reniaa.......the point of what?.........do you mean the point of my question or the point of df'ing and da'ing.....?
hoboken.....and pp I guess my questions may have been slightly more geared towards you as we know each other and while I was df'd for "fornication"......something I make no apologies for..................and you were df'd and da'd for apostasy.........do you, now that you have left, feel that you are different as an exjw than I am............
I hope this does not sound in anyway confrontational as it most certainly is not intended to be..........I was just wondering if it makes a difference......even though we know each other?
You see I feel like although we all (those on the board) may have been df'd and da'd for a general few reasons.......every single one of us has had a different situation or experience with it in some small way at least and every one of us may be at different stages too......like you said hoboken, some people have not realized when they were df'd what they were leaving but then again some people may have been very clear about their choices and each day find that it is reinforced.
The thing is we can never fully know everyone's situation and since we are all free to have our own beliefs........what may be classed by some as wrong some others may not think is wrong at all........................should we then see differences in people based on our beliefs or those of the person or should we just see humankind........and who we want to be?
OK I admit it I'm very bad at being philosophical........read into it what you will or think of me as a nutter if you choose.

since leaving the borg i have becom a total telly addict......we have a tv in the living room, the bedroom and one in the office and at least one of those is on throughout the day......it doesn't stop me doing things.......it's more like background sometimes but i do find that i watch a lot more than anyone else i know.. now i'm not interested in soaps at all........i do however like series and films and although i actually hate it i will be addicted to bb now that it is on.. once i find a series i like i watch it "religiously" (haha) from beginning to end...... such as........star trek voyager, stargate sg-1, stargate atlantis, medium, supernatural, grey's anatomy, ghost whisperer, 24, west wing, chuck, csi (all 3), criminal minds, big bang theory, curb your enthusiasm, er, desperate housewives, lost, nip/tuck, house, deadliest catch, brothers and sisters, .................i could go on and on but i think you get the picture.. the thing is i make no apologies for watching so much telly......i love it after having times when i was young when my parents would put the tv away for weeks to try and encourage us to study more and spend more time playing games...... how much telly do you watch........what do you watch and why?.

i know there was a thread started not that long ago about what book you are reading but i really wanted to start a thread about this particular book and it's subject.. i am about 2/3 the way through a book i got for my birthday called world war z by max brooks.
apparently it is going to be film sometime soon.. anyway the book is about a world crisis....zombies....please don't give up on this thread yet........the book is written as fact like a history book where a man is collating evidence for future generations so as to prevent another such crisis but is told to leave out all the humanity.....this results in the man writing his own book called "world war z" as he feels that future generations can only really learn from the humanity side of things as they will be able to relate to experiences rather than just facts.. throughout the book the man interviews survivor after survivor who relates their own experience and how it influenced or was influenced by the crisis.
now the man who actually wrote this book ...max brooks also wrote another book called "the zombie survival guide" and apparently it is a book which is encouraged reading for people in positions where they may be faced with any kind of crisis like this......effecting a large number of people, etc.. .
PrimateDave.....those are 2 excellent films....very much about survival and how easy it is for society to crumble and panic and things getting out of control.
Villabolo.......maybe it is just something I would have been interested in anyway then.............those two books you mentioned sound really good......the second one sounds a bit like a film that was out in recent years which I can't for the life of me remember the name of....."children of men"?......which I never actually got round to seeing and forgot about...I will need to put it back on my list.
Some of the films I have really enjoyed have been
28 days later, 28 weeks later, rec, quarantine, dawn of the dead, day of the dead, even films like the day after tomorrow, and for comedy value I can't miss out shaun of the dead......Simon Pegg is a genius...
I realize the titles mostly have "dead" in them but that kinda goes with the genre I think. I find that lots of people....mostly women tend to think I am a bit strange in that I find it all so fascinating....I mean I'm a girl and the women I know seem to be quite confused that I am not really interested in all the chickflick/lit bumf........I think they see me as a bit of an oddity.

I'm sorry this is so long-winded.......I am getting to the point......Since leaving the borg I have found that I love Zombie films, end of world films, any kind of film where society has to survive and then start over...........reading these books has really sparked in my mind that it may be because I was a witness that I enjoy these films so much..........after all isn't everything about being a witness geared towards waiting for armageddon when the "wicked" will be destroyed and then starting afresh.
So do you feel that there is a connection?
Do you like this type of film or story?
Do you think some major catastrophe or plague or something is possible or imminent in our future?
Any other comments?
I hope this hasn't come across as negative....I find it fascinating.........
