Hi Rebekah and welcome.
I don't think it was pointed out here that Jehovah's Witnesses are strongly discouraged from going to college and those that do go are looked down upon. They are also strongly discouraged from using the internet.

How does one get marked?
by On the Fence inok, i've been involved with jw's for 15 years or so, but i've not been deep enough into any "clicks" to know how someone gets "marked".
will someone explain?
i'm sure i must have been marked more than once for stupid reasons - only going to 2-3 of the 5 weekly meetings (hey, some of us do have to do laundry every now and then), not commenting enough (they wouldn't want to hear my comments now), not going out in service enough, etc.

It sounds to me that if they don't like you, they will find a reason to "mark" you.

Trouble For Richie
by RichieRich inas many of you know, i have a myspace.com account.. apparently, while i was out last night, someone called my mother and informed her of my activities on myspace.
my mother called and asked me for my login info, and was shocked to see me, and around 40 witnesses in my area having active profiles.
contents of these profile ranged from a few pictures to downright self-incrimination.

I've said this under the Myspace topics on this forum but I'm subbed to a few JW only groups on Myspace. Some of the young JW's are not listening to the elders or the Society about canceling their myspace accounts. Instead they are taking off any any personal information and photos, but they refuse to give up myspace. -

RR,
I know this was brought up before but with the elders on your tail shouldn't you be careful of what you post on this site just in case a computer savy elder sees you here?
BTW, You are one hell of a good guy for not ratting out your friends. I hope they appreciate what you've done.

An aluminum pole is generally used in lieu of a Christmas tree or other holiday decoration. Those attending participate in the "Airing of Grievances" which is an opportunity for all to vent their hostilities toward each other, and after a Festivus dinner, The Feats of Strength are performed. Traditionally, Festivus is not over until the head of the household is wrestled to the floor and "pinned".

Hi and welcome oppgirl.
I was in the same boat as Jaffacake. I too lost a very good friend to the JW's and the same thing that happened to him, happened to me. Within one month after his baptism, he stopped associating with me. The only time I would speak to him is when I called him and if he wasn't home, he didn't return my phone calls. The sad part is that in his heart he didn't want to stop associating with me but the elders had too much control over him.
The responses you got on Beliefnet were from active JW's who paint a rosy picture of the religion/cult. You will be considered "bad association" regardless of what activities you are doing with her. Even if they are acceptable by JW standards, the fact that she is doing them with a "worldly" person makes it wrong.
