  Black History Month? Is it separation or just realistic?

  so i got to thinking after seeing 60 minutes this last week.

  morgan freeman said black history month is "ridiculous" and pointed out that it keeps african-americans seperated from other americans.

  i guess my thinking is that the school text books haven't really changed since i was in school.

  I agree with Morgan Freeman, it's separation. We don't have Native American history month, Latin American history, or Asian American history month. So why do we have black history month?

  copies of the article can be purchased as a stand-alone copy: http://www3.baylor.edu/church_state/ordering_publications.htm.

  i've personally ordered a handful and will distribute to some local lawyers and medical staff that would be quite interested in a better understanding of the issues surrounding the jw blood policy.. if you are skeptical about the article's potential effectiveness and feel this would be a wasted effort, no problem, just don't bother to fret about this post or this idea.. but if you think this might have a shot at making a difference, then let's give it that shot!

  Is Christmas for Jews?

  given that so many practises associated with christmas are blatantly christian in origin, is christmas truly for jews?

  i know that often there are few christian connotations attributed to it nowadays, in such a zionist society, but history is on record in showing that the whole baby jesus / messiah thing is definitely a christian element.

  would any true jew (orthodox or otherwise) today want to drink such a mixed cup, perhaps by even combining it with hanukah?

  Jews celebrate Hannukkah which in origin is not the festive holiday they make it today. Hannukkah never commanded 8 gifts each night and except for the Menorah, there were no decorations. Over the decades, they added some aspects of Christmas such as buying gifts, Hannukkah garland, Hannukah bush, etc. IMO, Jews commercialized Hannukkah so they wouldn't feel left out during the holiday season and the retailers commersialized it to make extra money.

  I just don't have an answer to that question. I know the author is following the posts here on JWD with interest, and I do know she's one plucky gal and can hold her own in any sort of discussion.
