  in today's wall street journal there was an excellent article about stem cell research.

  the united states used to be number 1 in science research.

  we are now number 2 and continually on the decline even more.

  You can certainly get stem cells from other places than embryoes, though that is the easiest source. I don't see why scientists can't remove the genetic material from a given cell, put stem cell genetic material in it, then grow that batch.

  Maybe, but If a life-saving treatment is created using Human embryos and not other genetic materials, would you turn it down?

  I would also like to point out that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scientists tend to exaggerate their claims in order to get more funding, especially in medical research.

  Cloning sounded far-fetched too and science has been able to do this. The same thing was said about putting a man on the moon and guess what? It happened.

  Hi Mary,

  I am pro Stem Cell Research but my intentions were not to start this thread for debate. I'm curious to know how many opposers would turn down life-saving medical treatments if stem cells/human embryos were used to create them. Don't you think it would be hypocritical for a stem cell opposer to accept a treatment created from this type of research?

  The web link you provided brings to mind a very good question. If you were diagnosed with a debilitating disease and the treatment used to cure or control it came from human embryo research, would you refuse it?

  In today's Wall Street Journal there was an excellent article about Stem Cell Research. The United States used to be number 1 in science research. We are now number 2 and continually on the decline even more. The article goes on to say that Europe and Asia, particularly Korea are far ahead of the US on stem cell research. The last paragraph brought up a very good point.
  "An interesting battle will come when a lab in Singapore or Seoul or Britain uses embryonic stem cells to develop a therapy for diabetes or Parkinson's or heart disease. Its use in the U.S. would require approval by the Food and Drug Administration. Will opponents of stem-cell research demand that the FDA reject it and deprive patients of their only hope?"
  Even if the FDA does approve a therapy, how many individuals who oppose stem cell research would refuse it down?

  How do you know it was a police officer that called? Five years ago and only NOW they are calling you?

  I was thinking the same thing. The first thing I would do is check out Officer Todd's credentials. This could be a scam.

  non J.W girl involved with J.w BOY...HELP!!!

  well me and my b.f met a year ago through mutual friends at a rock concert in london...we clicked instantly and i was very attracted to him as id never met someone so nice who i got on with that well i liked at the same time.

  an over the next few months saw each other a few times but only as friends as we lived on opposite ends of the country....we stayed in touch via text.

  then the texts gradually faded out.

  You have two good choices.

  Choice 1: Run in the opposite direction and don't get involved

  Choice 2: You can attempt to help him out of this controling and life destroying cult by throwing some doubt into his mind which would involved mucho research not only into the Society's teachings but also researching how mind controling groups and cults work. This choice would be time-consuming and results are less than 50%. I know all about this because I was in a similar situation as yourself. The difference is that my friend and I had a platonic relationship. If you choose to take the time and interest to help him, I suggest reading the book Releasing The Bonds by Steve Hassan.

  BEING SICK IS FOR THE RICH

  dear all,.

  please allow me to vent off a little this morning.. as most of you will already know i have a rare form of cancer - mantle cell lymphoma - for which the prognosis is extremely poor (but there have been some people who have gone a good many years beyond the average).

  i live in the uk where, not being a person of wealth, i depend heavily on the national health service (nhs).

  that to have a serious illness but for which there COULD well be the hope of, at the very least, a remission, one has to be extremely wealthy. In other words, being sick is purely for the rich!
