Do you consider yourself a monkey's uncle?
by compound complex inor, less simply stated (asked, actually): did you get here by creation or evolution?
i mean you personally.
there are some lovely books on the subject, but i trust your gut feeling more than i do a certain book-publishing-empire-posing-as-a-religion-that-shall-remain-nameless-but-its-initials-are-xxx&xx and, of late, has been accused of scholastic dishonesty!

Your Dreams
by LouBelle inwe all have dreams - some of us see those dreams to fruition.. my constant dream/desire is to have a little bit of land in the country somewhere, with a cow (bell around her neck and all), some chickens running around, a veggie patch, a herb patch.
a safe home.
friends popping in.. a very simple dream..

My dream is to live in a very modern clean city with a giant dome covering the city to block out bad radiation. We all wear the same space age clothes and refer to each other as "brother" and "sister". We all consume a drug that keeps us calm and alert. The sentries at the edges of the city keep out the "bad people" with laser rifles.

Good vs Evil.....does the existence of God prove the existence of Satan?
by wings indoes not believing in god bring evil down to a simple explanation of the conflict that is within every human being.
seems to me the "force" is at work in the world, and the "force" is both good and evil.
sometimes it is easier for me to believe in the existence of satan than the existence of god.

These are sophisticated descriptions of mans attempt to control his emotions and instinct
through intelligence. Thats the balance. Having a sophisticated simulator in your head that lets you see
possible outcomes of your actions is uniquely human.
Apes do some level of simulation: I want to mate with that, but the last time I did, I got the shit kicked out of me.
Crocodiles and sharks run on pure instinct: Smell blood, attack. -

I think women should be able to do whatever they want, as long as they cover their heads with
something, like a scarf or a kleenex. -

God promised not to use a global flood on us again, but if he did, that would be
cool because those of us with boats and rafts would inherit the earth. -

Baba,
As God is my witness, I was going to post a link to that Jill Bolte Taylor yesterday as support
for my position that we are machines. When the machine breaks, we experience the delusion of spiritual
experience. -

Babayaga,
You said: "But my belief is that the physical form, while a wonderous gift I can taste and smell and feel with, is, in some ways, unnecessary."
Do you believe that your "spirit" is the real you, it is your consciousness, it will remember what is happening to you now when it moves on
after death?
My previous comment about squeezing your brain... believe it or not was not intended to have any innuendo.
I have accepted that all my thoughts, any intelligence I have, is all in my head. The proof for me is what happens
to peoples intelligence and thought processes when they experience physical damage to their brain. And the point I was
trying to make with the squeezing comment was that your reality can be modified with physical manipulation. -

Sirona,
Richard Feynman is a fascinating character. He was a very well respected physicist.
From his wiki page:
---
According to Genius, the James Gleick biography, Feynman experimented with LSD during his professorship at Caltech.[10] Somewhat embarrassed by his actions, Feynman sidestepped the issue when dictating his anecdotes; consequently, the "Altered States" chapter in Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! describes only marijuana and ketamine experiences at John Lilly's famed sensory deprivation tanks, as a way of studying consciousness. Feynman gave up alcohol when he began to show early signs of alcoholism, as he did not want to do anything that could damage his brain.
---
Richard felt his "center" shift off to the left side of his body. That is sort of an out of body experience.
I believe Richard would tell you that his experiences were all "inside of his head".
I believe you are looking to connect with something outside of yourself, or with some intelligence that is
not of this world? Or some hidden knowledge that is pre-programmed into your DNA?
If you separate an animal from its culture at birth, it will exhibit traits that are unique to its species
for the rest of its life, as if some programming was passed on to it through its DNA. People seem to be
pre-programmed to believe in Gods? Or some other "spiritual" entity?
