now that we have entered the hot season, my question is what is your flavor of choice when it comes to ice cream.
i have to say for me there is nothing better than a premium vanilla.
sounds boring, oh no.

they are the size of teradactyles this year here - due to the frequent, almost tropical climate this summer here.
thousands would be an understatement of facts - millions is more like it - and i am only talking about my back yard.. we had to go and buy some heavy duty pet/livestock potion for the pooch, who is tethered while we work on dry days.
she has been hiding in her house most of the time.. anyone got a good mosquito recipe?
Some people might not think of desert areas as synonymous with mosquitoes, but every summer we are warned about the dangers of standing water (pet dishes, poorly-maintained swimming pools, etc.). The rate of West Nile virus has also increased over the past two or three years. So far this year I have heard of three human cases in this vicinity, & one death in Maricopa County (Phoenix area).
I don't usually have a problem as I live in an apartment complex with desert landscaping all around

what if the watchtower announced that they are not god's sole channel of spiritual truth?
along with this admission, would come an apology for all of the misleading and damaging predictions and past teachings.
what if they also dumped the disfellowshipping arrangement, as currently practiced, and allowed for respectful disagreement and disent, on issues such as blood transfusions and military service?
I went through too much agony for too long...missed out on too many things...and will probably spend the rest of my life cleaning up the wreckage. I am unable & unwilling to go through it all again...
No, thanks..

i know an awful lot here are 3rd and 4th generation - but were there any who's parents become dubs as adults?
i'd be interested to here what it was that made an adult become a jw when not brought up that way?.
i'll relate my parents experience shortly...but its something i;ve been thinking about a lot.
Father was Jewish & mother was Methodist..
She moved to Connecticut with an older sister (my now-JW aunt) to attend high school in the 'city.' Studied & was baptized at 17. My father, who was thrown out of the house for accepting the 'Truth' (I think also because he gave up a promising career in the defense industry..), followed suit & was baptized after their engagement..
They were gung-ho from the start--going to serve 'needy' congregations in Pennsylvania & Massachusetts, to Gilead in 1967 (44th Class) & subsequently to Guatemala. My father got into some trouble down there & was DF'd for a time (I found out about it from some old Bethel letters which I stumbled across one afternoon while still living at home & my mother was gone..). Various non-JW relatives & family friends have surmised that there may have been a child as a result. Guess I will never know for sure; Mother flatly denies it (just as she flatly denies my father ever getting sick from the chemotherapy ).
My parents, died-in-the-wool New Englanders that they were, returned to the States in the dead of winter, 1969, & couldn't stand the cold after two years in the tropics. They had plans to settle in Southern California. This was about the time that my non-JW grandfather (mother's side) gave them money to drive my grandmother, who was crippled with arthritis most of her life, out West while he wrapped things up back home. Those were the days of 'go to Arizona for your health.' They got her situated with JW friends in Apache Junction, a suburb of Phoenix, & were ready to head for San Diego or Orange County when my mother realized, while staying with friends in Tucson, what else was in their future..
And yes, the rest is history (for better or mostly worse).

i wonder which kingdom melodies he will select?
I wonder if he will be performing any of his more recent songs--1975, I Would Preach 2 U, Little Red Sedan, or the touching When Dubs Cry..

lets say that armageddon was imminent and you would deduce that you wouldn't be saved, who would you want to be with to enjoy your last moments alive?
Janis Joplin..
my husband has epilepsy, but only nocturnal seizures and he has had it very much under control.
in fact, in the 5 years that we've been together, i've only witnessed about 5 or so seizures....and they have been mild ones.
however, due to the side effects of his meds (weight gain, etc.
Seizures are indeed terrifying. My father had them as a result of his glioblastoma (malignant brain tumor). The first one, which occurred in May, 1982 & resulted in the subsequent diagnosis, occurred late one night after we had all gone to bed. I awoke to the sound of strange noises coming from my parents' room & ran in to find my father seizing violently, only the whites of his eyes showing, & my mother trying desperately to hold him down. The sight of that left a horrible imprint on my mind & gave me nightmares for years. With the surgery & other treatments (radiation & chemotherapy) the seizures diminished in severity but never went away. I learned to read the warning signs--the glazed look & petit mal-type twitch of his left cheek--which signalled the need to pop a Valium in his mouth. This would abort the attack in about 30 seconds.
Get some good rest now & know that many thoughts & prayers are with you..

i just stepped out into my back yard and thought i was going to melt.
i was going to fill up the inflatable pool for my son, but by the time it gets filled up, the water will be about 90 and not worth the bother.
i'm sure that other california people can relate to this.
110 degrees here on Friday, followed by an overnight MINIMUM temperature of 89 degrees. That is a new record, beating the previous 'low' of 88 degrees in August, 1993. Phoenix, which is usually 5-6 degrees hotter, reached 115, & nights in the 90's are nothing unusual there. Combine that with their slightly higher humidity (especially near the canals & irrigated areas) & frequent smog alert days, & we are talking MISERY .
I remember the afternoon in June, 1990 when we reached our all-time high temperature of 117 degrees. Phoenix reached 122 that day & Sky Harbor Int'l Airport had to close down..
As a true Desert Rat, I love our summer heat...as long as it remains dry..
