i know it was a rather long and drawn out title but i couldnt' think of another way to word it.

this is especially for the new poster darcy.

i was wondering what you felt was necessary to receive everlasting life, whether on heaven or paradise earth?

you're asking me to present my own standards by which I'd judge someone's chances of survival.

I'm not good at answering this sort of stuff, because I totally back off of anything to deal with judging. That's Jehovah's work, and it can stay that way.

You'd be better off asking me specific questions probably like how do you feel about this activity, or that. I could give you the general, 'be a good person, seek happiness answer' here, but that's so subjective and vague.

I'll try to answer in that, by the New Testament, God is Love, and he commands Love for one another and for him. So salvation is probably best sought by demonstration of such. I've often reflected on Paul's words that he became all things to all sorts of men that he might reach them, and that to me took an extraordinary amount of love and unwillingness to judge those men by their actions.

When it comes down to judging... well, the gospels point out that Jehovah makes the sun rise for righteous as well as unrighteous. How kind, then, would it be for me to set judgement standards for salvation for anyone, righteous or unrighteous?

Nimrod; Tower of Babel

It's probable that he was part of the building.

First, as you mentioned, his kingdom began with "Babel... in the land of Shinar" (Gen 10:10)

Turn over to the actual account in chaper 11. It says that "in their journeying eastward they eventually discovered a valley plain in the land of Shinar, and they took up dwelling there." We don't know if Nimrod was apart of this group. Aparently, next, it was also this same group that decided to build the tower. They did so to "make a celebrated name for [them]selves."

Based on Nimrod's history, and the active part he took in expanding his kingdom, he may well have shared this mentality of wanting to 'make a celebrated name' for himself. In fact, most with the sort of ambition it takes to build a kingdom are after something of a name.

You're right, there's no timeline, or naming names. But it can be inferred that since Nimrod's kingdom began with Babel in Shinar, that he may well have been with those people who built the tower. Or, he could have been another monarch who came along after the tower's completion/confusion of languages, and there started to build his empire.

yes I saw that ages ago. And I know about it from first hand experience. My dad had a bit o' a temper.

In addition, what sort of response would make you happy? Would you like me to just give it all up right now? To denounce? To curse God and die? To curse WTS? Reread your former post. What interested me was the bit about mat. 24.3. I've read the bits about unfulfilled prophecy plenty of times on this website, and there's nothing I can say to it. Or, perhaps there is? If so, why don't you tell me what it is you think I ought to say to you in the future? And then I'll use that reply for you for your satisfaction.

My regrets, Auldsoul, but you'll notice I only respond to the bits that interest me, so let's take the optimistic view: at least I responded, hmm?

I'm not avoiding it. It seems I'm just not up to par with the answering standards here. So, for the defense. (ah, me, seems to be alot of this) I was intrigued by your comment, and went online to look through as many different bibles as possible, which I posted (although in hindsight probably didn't need to) and then stated that based off of strong's definition that the first interpretation of the word parousia is presence, and secondly coming, so it doesn't seem unreasonable for the NWT to read as such.

I retract the statements about 90 years, and 2 Pe 3.8. That was pure speculation, perhaps even excuse making.

I do wish you wouldn't act as though I'm being flippant with you with my response, or dismissive in any way. Er, If there's a point you think I've missed, you can let me know so without the subtle implications that I'm an assinine christian.

Y'all ought to know I'm not able to defend every dumb thing WTS has done. In fact, I'm not going to. I'll rehash that I didn't register on the site to be the avenging angel of the Governing Body. Ok.
