I still like the idea. I don't completely buy it that Smurfs are 'no longer an issue'. Besides, the fact that they EVER were is enough in many ways.

* EX-JW 2003 Yearbook *
by YoursChelbie inwe have all seen the yearbooks that are printed by wts with accounts of people who suffered to become part of their organization.
would it not be helpful to raise public awareness if the ex-jw community likewise had a *yearbook* including experiences of those who have overcome extraordinary obstacles while in the cult or because they were trying to leave the cult?
granted, everyone's story has it own merit, but if we had to narrow down the number of people to be profiled--who would you chose?

I think it's a fabulous idea and I, for one, would pay to read it.
A website's a nice idea, but to reach the 'uneducated' who are so gullible to the WTS, it might be better to publish as they're not on the net and the WTS 'cautions' everyone not to be..
If this thing happens on Oprah, I'm sure you could DEFINITELY approach publishers with your idea.
Start looking at who's publishing books that you like and that you could 'envision' this way. Also start collecting stories. Then you'll be halfway to ready when the shit hits the fan.
If you somehow manage to get something started BEFORE Oprah, and she actually mentions it on the air, then you'll be a rich exjw as well - so buy us all lunch!

Let's see....2 + 2 equals...um, 4?
by Dia injws obstain from talking about sex - they seem to be almost afraid of it.
(according to bergman) the sex crime that jws have the most frequent trouble with (at least prior to recent revelations) is exhibitionism.
jw elders snoop into people's sex lives in thoroughly intrusive and inappropriate ways that most exjws would consider to be perverse and twisted .

AND finally....when they disfellowship people they somehow alude to the 'reasons' for it in the same hushed and knowing tones that they use to alude to sex and thereby, 'imply' (as in the case of Bowen and others) - that there's probably some secret sex crime behind it (or possibly even something almost unimaginably WORSE!!, as if there IS something unimagineably worse).
A question - is there any other subject you can recall which JWs talk of in such hushed and knowing terms?
I can't think of any.

God is editor of the WT
by Earnest inin an earlier thread reference was made to a court case in which fred franz stated that jehovah god was editor of the "watch tower".
as this quotation is often used to support the allegation that jws believe the wt is inspired of god i thought it would be of wider interest to provide the relevant court record for general consideration.. the court case itself was in 1940 and was olin moyle against fred franz and others and the wtbts.
just so that you know who is who, hayden covington was attorney for the defendants and walter bruchhausen was attorney for the plaintiff.

I guess this serves as evidence that the biggest Christian value that JWs are lacking, is humility.
At their core, they believe that God listens first and foremost TO THEM. At the exclusion of everyone else, whom he is going to destroy.
Sad. Very sad.

How You Can Encourage Mental Illness
by metatron infirst, you need to identify some outward signs of mental illness and then find ways to encourage their manifestation.
paranoia: remember, you live in a world controlled by the devil and.
his demons.
-
Dia
I don't know if mentally unstable people are attracted to JWs - I could see where one could surely make that assumption. But one of the things that Dr. Bergman says is that there is evidence that even disturbed people IMPROVE when they leave the Witnesses.
Reading your post is like 'old times' for me. I left so long ago (I was a teen) that I almost can't remember those things.
But your post brings them back. This may sound weird, but really, I appreciate it. Ill as it makes me, I guess it is a part of my life. (Ech! Spit! Poo! Gag!)
They should not, however, be allowed to indoctrinate their children with this crap. This should be recognized for what it is - psychological abuse. And, in my opinion, JWs ought to have their kids taken away from them on the grounds that they are mentally incompetent.
Bad as this is, it's even worse when it takes place in the context of a further abusive home.

Jewish people have Mezuzas (sp?) and others in history have used Gargoyles to keep away evil spirits....
Looks like we could mount a Smurf on our doorposts to keep Jehovah's Witnesses away.
(All these things had to start somewhere....maybe that's how it started with Mezuzas and Gargoyles, too! Some idiot group of people who had a group-wide irrational religious fear of some ordinary harmless thing. And once it gets started.....it's self-perpetuating - it sticks.)
Besides, it would be fun. Especially explaining it to others.
"Oh that? That's to scare away Jehovah's Witnesses."

What is your definition of........
by SpiceItUp in......beauty?.
i know the whole sentiment of beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
even rod sterling had his say on the matter (boy i loved that episode).. what is beautiful in your opinion?
-
Dia
Outwardly: I think Phillipine people are the most beautiful people on the planet.
Inwardly: I would say all that stuff about sensitivity and caring and warmth and humor and blah, blah, blah (it's all true) but the bottom line is that someone who cares FOR ME goes automatically to the TOP of the list.

Abortion VS Child Molestation
by StinkyPantz ini just wanted to know what others thought about this archbishop's comment.
he said that abortion was a bigger sin than child molestation.
do you agree or disagree and why?
-
Dia
In my opinion, it is a stupid arguement. There are many ways to die and many ways to be sexually abused.
They vary so much that it is impossible to make a 'blanket statement' that could possibly cover them all.
But the Catholic Church rightly believes in life and that, in life, solutions can be found or at least searched for.
Death provides only, 'the end' of everything.
It's a stupid question. The priest was stupid to make a statement like that (tho the media might have jumped on it to force their own conclusions) and everyone is stupid for trying to answer it.
The variables are SO extreme, that the ONLY person who could answer that would be the person affected by it.

not to pressure you but...
...THIS IS ONE GOD-GIVEN OPPORTUNITY!!
Oprah is not like other talkshows in that she is REALLY there to give support of any kind to her guests. And after, too! She wouldn't leave you dangling there if the whole event is really upsetting for you.
You know you would hear back from tons of JWs and exjws and we would be there too. If Bill can give you anything wonderful right now, it's advice on how to find the courage to stick your neck out.
But truly, I am NOT wanting to pressure you. Pray about it.
It takes a lot of guts to get up there and speak. But Oprah's show is taped and not live so even if you fall apart completely, you can redo it or do whatever you need to do. I'm sure you would not be the first and I'm sure they're very adept at handling people who are very nervous and scared. Just level with them. Tell them how you're feeling and what you're thinking. Let them help you.
People do change other people's lives - and their own, too by 'going public'.
As you already know, you're part of a tidal wave. Dateline, BBC, several newspapers, many, many things on the internet.
This is still just the start. A year from now, you might wonder how you could ever have been scared about it.
I wish you luck and courage. I also wish you peace. So please pray about it. We will pray for you, too.
If for some reason, this is not really right for you, there are lots of people around the corner who would be happy to 'fill in'. Don't feel like it's all on your shoulders.
Most of all, I am thrilled that Oprah is showing an interest in this! And I thank you for sharing that.
