okay, i used to be the guy with all the latest gadgets in fact i was the first bethelite i knew to get a personal internet account and the first to upgrade to a 14.4 modem (dating myself eh!!).
but for the past couple of years i haven't upgraded my home pc.
it has been primarily for my home based businesses (email, word, excel and powerpoint type stuff and casual browsing) so my faithful p2, 10 gig hard drive and cd reader (only) has been sufficient, but damn it i want to be able to do more!
Dear Uzzah, my younger son his a huge gamer and both sons are both computer experts. Problem is they are gone for the weekend so if you are still interested after July 4... PM me and I will get their answers.... if you don't get your answers before then. Older son is Cisco and Windows certified. The younger son is the biggest gamer this side of the Missisippi :)

okay, well i'm another newbie but maybe i will find a few people to be appauled with me.
i have been shunned by my entire family..father, 3 sisters and a brother, 4 aunts 5 uncles, and countless cousins.
the best part of it is i'm not even df'd.
No dear, this is very typical. We have many relatives who have cashed checks, accepted gifts etc. as JW's and then promptly announced they do not celebrate. (Christmas, birthdays, or their anniversary)
Worse yet, some have shown up at Christmas time, parading around like scrooge and then wait for their presents from family members who are not JW's.
My suggestion is never send money or buy any gift again.
It never ends.

Just one more note, 7th day Adventists are huge here in Florida. There are as many churches here as there are congregations for the JW's.

My grandmother was a 7th day Adventist before becoming a Witness in the late 1920's and we rented a home to a couple who were the same faith about 10 years ago.
I will tell you what I know from my history between the 2 above.
On the sabbath they cannot do labor of any sort. Because our renters worked 6 days a week, and no work was allowed on the sabbath, the house was a pig sty including the yard. I had to constantly go over and tell them things had to be cleaned up...to no avail. I finally had them removed after 5 years.
Women are not allowed to wear makeup, dancing is frowned upon, immunization shots are not really approved of etc.
All of this came through with my Grandmother after she converted to JW's and had 6 out of 7 kids witnesses by time they were little.
This is all I know about them.

Tied it to the top of a little Honda and waited until the meeting was letting in 2 blocks away. He pulled through the drive up to the front door and shouted MERRY CHRISTMAS! Horror of horrors my mom was just going in along without about 20 others. I did not live that one down for a long time! I was not involved at the time but sure paid big time for the next year with my mother.
My oldest Uncle (not a JW) attended the wedding of one of my cousins. He had been tortured by the entire family for years for not being a JW. After the talk, he couldn't take it anymore and to inforce his disapproval of the JW's promptly exited the KH with others, went to the side of the building and Pee'd all over it.
Of course everybody and their extended relatives witnessed it. There was much Tee Heeing from those who were sympathetic with him.
I am giggling now.

well, after fading for 5 1/2 years, keeping a low profile, hoping to keep the lines of communication open with the ones we loved for the last three decades, i got the phone call today.
they let me know it was two elders on the phone and they needed to talk with me about a judicial matter in that some serious accusations were made against me.. background: in march of 2005 i was contacted via email by a "sister" we have known for 25 years who we have always felt very close to.

I was so sorry to read of your impending doom with elders.
The problem here is there are no real friends or family in this orginization. It is George Orwell's 1984, or living under the Taliban. Anyone, including your own family will turn you in for any reason they see fit no matter how sincerely they beg you to tell all.
I have experienced this scenerio over and over again through the years.
I am now shunned after leaving 30 years ago, (no DA or DF).
I expect a knock at my door any day now from elders wanting a meeting as to my intentions.
That meeting will never be granted.
