I have 12 first cousins out, all raised from birth as JW's. I just hooked up 2 of them to an all women xjw site. For all I know someone on here could be one of my cousins. :)

i was thinking about inviting a friend over for drinks this weeked.
he's a former witness like myself who no longer has any belief that the witnesses had the truth or anything close to the truth.. as i thought about that, i realized, just from my own former congregation, i know at least a couple dozen x-jws who left completely, and see the witnesses as no better than any other religion and lots worse than most.
yet none of these folks are at all involved in sites like jwd or any of the other anti-witness sites.

okay i hate to sound mean but witnesses in my opinion are mean and rude (that once included me) without even realizing it, maybe.
because the little things that non-witnesses do in everyday life for others and their family mean alot to ones they love or complete strangers.. what are some little things you can do know that show someone you care..that you weren't allowed to do before?.
1. saying "bless you" after someone sneezes
Returning a "Merry Christmas" reply, instead of saying, "I don't celebrate!" ...that was a real show stopper in my book, and about as rude as you can get.

background for those who are not aware of my situation: my wife is an active, faithful witness.
i am inactive and in the process of attempting to fade.
we were both raised "in the truth.
I think your reaction is pretty common. Celebration of any holiday to JW's is one of the big, bad, No Nos. I love Christmas and all that goes with it, but to this day, on December 26th, the tree comes down and I feel a horrible sense of guilt, and a fear of getting caught with a tree in my house.
Logically, who cares, who would catch me and if some one did, its none of their business. No matter, that old JW guilt trip just keeps rearing it's ugly head.

survivalist.
these days the word in most cases tends to conjure up images of wild eyed nuts in bdu's, armed to their teeth....all two of them.. but.....this is just not the case.
more and more people these days are seeing the need to be prepared in at least some ways.
After 3 hurricanes, I learned real quick to be prepared, never gave it a second thought up until then.
3 days without power in hot, humid Florida feels like 3 months. The days are long with no light, television, computer, hot water and a diet of peanut butter and crackers.
The smell coming off the streets is disgusting. Blown down vegetation starts rotting, but you have to keep your windows open so you don't cook alive in your own home.
We were lucky, many here went without power for weeks.

Seems someone is getting very creative in the witnessing effort. Wonder if they're counting time.

i thought this might be interesting.
if it's been talked about before, i apologize in advance.
what differences do you think exist between the two?
The original defination of an apostate was someone who disregarded the teaching of the trinity. That would make all JW's apostates.
The JW's have turned it into anyone who disregard their teachings.
This in turn would be considered AGITPROP....a term I have used in many posts, which has the meaning; Propaganda that incites Agitation against a political force. Since the JWs consider themselves representative of a govt., this term, in my opinion applies.
They use AGITPROP to futher their cause.
Apostate to me does not apply to anyone in this forum.. It is a term applied by political propaganda.
The people here a are free thinking, individuals with the god given option of an opinion. A difference of opinion does not equal apostasy.

hi.. i have decided to join this site and hopefully connect with some people who will know what my story has been.
i guess it is best to read my profile, but the upshot of this new found technology is that i am no longer alone in my isolation.
i can hopefully reach out and connect with people who really understand what it is like in my head!
Dear Paul,
Welcome to the forum... I'm not gay but I had 2 uncles who were who served in bethel... I think they are too old for you now. But you are still very much welcomed! Straight people can be nice too!

imagine what would happen in countless congregations across the globe if the society formally announced that "so and so is no longer one of.
jehovah's witnesses" simply because they became inactive.. not only would many congregations suffer under the burden of having their younger witness demographic get "expelled" , often one by .
one, in a steady drip as they fornicate/smoke/do weed/whatever, man - but you now add a regular stream of .
Funny,
As an inactive one of over 30 years, I backed up my Mom to invest $100,000.00 in the society with a return of 7.0 percent until she dies. She couldn't get a better return elsewhere. I realize they are betting she is dead before they break even. They keep the principle and of course this comes out of my inheritance.
They better be damned careful! She wanted to invest another "100k" and I talked her out of it right before I was shunned. I am the executor of her estate, which she reaffirmed 4 weeks after the shunning, (Family business)
My father, a former elder, left her all of this money and would have never wanted it to go to the society. He left in the 80's. He also left $10,000 each for my both my son's college education in a will left on his computer which my mother promptly had erased after his death by a 20 year old ministerael servent. She considered my father and apostate and his computer full of spiritual pornography.
The problem with my dad was, he loved her too much, she ruled the roost, and she literally whittled him down to nothing.
What becomes of the estate I am yet to learn.
Thanks for listening.

i had extended family members, both with families of 7, abandon good jobs and homes in the suburbs of chicago.
they moved to the wild outskirts of 2 separate states to protect their families from armageddon.
they both waited for 20 years, wound up financially destitute and finally had to move and depend on other family members to recover.. it would be interesting to read the stories from those of you who went through this time period as a jw.. r.
Thanks to all of you who have responded.
I'll give you another personal story.
Not only were any of the children in our family allowed or ever encouraged further education, but my parents debated for over a year to move from a house of 1200 square feet to a home of 1700 square feet, in 1973. They finally decided to move and the reasoniing being it had a basement to watch the excitement of Arrmegeddon out the lower level windows, all Andersons by the way which were stronger than the previous home. WE all waited for the fateful day
I can remember feeling especially protected by this new home because of the area, Anderson windows, and warm basement.
Whats really awful is I still have dreams of going back and watching the end througth those windows.
Thanks for listening. R.
