Can't some of these people get some privacy?...Good Lord it's like a JW elders meeting for DFing.
Who cares.....he had an accident.....does his entire life have to be called in to question?

another time & place.
20-25 years ago in a conservative "god's country" us state.
a look around the kingdom hall could easily identify the theocratic pecking order.. .
Open Mind....
I'm laughing my axx off. The big boys had their initials inscribed. When they came in, the big cases would be set down and lined up against the wall, emblazoned with initials behind all the seats....You know...so heavy and full of important crap they were too difficult to carry around until the meeting started. Of course all were locked. (Snicker)
I'll never forget the sight of those lined up brief cases, and all the wanna be's walking around with the wimpy version.
Good lord.....did we really live through this? Did we really take any of it seriously? Damn, its appalling!!!!!!!!!!
my frequent walks these last few years about the neighborhood so familiar to me would ordinarily be construed a pleasant enough non-event.
a little mild exercise - taken in small doses to keep the joints operating properly - and a keen eye peeled for the ever-changing face of nature have rendered the daily promenade a suitable diversion.
until recently.
Coco, You, Sylvia and Beks have me running to the dictionary.....lol.
Thanks for the education! College words I don't believe the Awake ever used!!!!
Creel, Inveterate, laconic, euphony, mellifluous, Proserpina, tricolon, and autodidact!!!!!
I'll admit I haven't looked them all up yet, its embarrassing not to know after spending a life time reading!

Coco, your writing reminds me a bit of Saul Bellow's Herzog.
Thoroughly enjoyable!
From page 140 and 141 of Herzog/Penguin classics in paperback by Saul Bellow:
"Survival! he noted. Till we figure out what's what. Till the chance comes to exert a positive influence. (Personal responsibility for history, a trait of Western culture, rooted in the Testaments, Old and New, the idea of the continual improvement of human life on this earth. What else explained Herzog's ridiculous intensity?) Lord, I ran to fight in Thy holy cause, but kept tripping, never reached the scene of the struggle."
"He saw through this as well. If nothing else, he was too rich in diseases to be satisfied with such a description."
just wondering.
.
Once in awhile we have to ask eachother for pass words....
Neither of us can remember them, and the e mails are too boring to each other to care about.

in reading this short article, oooooh, let's just post some quotes:.
page 32, paragraph 1:.
"last year, the governing body announced an adjustment to the congregation meeting schedule that allows more time for bible study and discussion as a family.
Family worship was always the most torturous session, for us as children, and for my Father working 60 to 70 hours a week plus being an elder.
It was filled with frustration, for everyone. No one had the spare time. Everyone was behind on school work, house work, house repairs, and of course all the prep for meetings, much less service.
Yet, somehow it was squeezed in, everyone pressured and angry....but we have to do this, attitude. My memories are of anger, many tears, someone reading too slow, not the right answer.....and above all, ugly tension always. Welcome to JW world in the 70's.
It was literally the most unrealistic, judgemental, ugly, ugly, time period. No one measured up.
Accck, it makes me sick writing this.....Family worship......it was called family torture time. As teenagers, we all went absolutely bonkers.

how do you like them?
i would like to know the recipes.
thanks!
This is an authentic Puerto Rican recipe from my girl friend's x husband. He was a native and Chef.
It's addictive:
I'll quote his recipe and then try and decipher for you.
CHILES EN HAOGADA
Ground beef (1 pound)
Raisins (1/2 cup)
Almonds shaved (1/2 cup)
Platano Maduro (ripe plantain) it should have lots of black....I use 1 large Peeled sliced lengthwise into quarters and then chopped sometimes 2 of them because they are so delicious!
1 apple peeled and chopped.....I use granny smith
1 large Tomato chopped
Comino (Cumin) to taste
Black pepper to taste
2-3 garlic cloves finely chopped or grated.
Italian seasoning 1 tsp.
1 Onion finely diced
Oregano 1/2 tsp.
Salt to taste
Fry up together all of the ground beef, plantain, onion and garlic, drain and add spices, raisins, almonds, and tomato and cook a few minutes more. Stuff into Poblano chilis that have been split open and seeded.
Cover stuffed publanos with a dab of butter each and lots of Mexican cheese. Queso, or serve with crumbled feta mixed with sour cream is even better.
Bake at 325 degrees for about 30 to 45 mins, or until cheese is bubbly.
(I like this without the chilies to just eat on its own with a little sour cream) Great cold too!
The Poblanos tend to be tough and sometimes too hot for my family. The filling is so delicious, I just make it up for a snack, without the peppers.
i fall into the sad bracket of not likiing them.
sorry but i spend my whole working day being unrelentingly polite and charming ... when i get home i want to switch off and slob out.
i do not want the doorbell to ring and have to play host!
Usually not and depends on what time of day and who it is. Even my Mom knows to call first before coming over. I tend to slam the door shut after a very curt, " not interested." If its a neighbor, it usually means they need help with something....which is not a problem. We all know each other pretty well and don't pester.
After spending years dealing with the public and their problems, calls, etc. I cherish my privacy. The best invention was caller ID. I couldn't live without it. I refuse to carry a cell phone. If I'm out shopping etc., leave a message, I'm busy...it can wait an hour or until the next day.
I don't know what all this cell phone usage is. I can see it for emergencies, but all this yapping while in a car, at a restaurant, shopping, it seems ridiculous... and the cost!!!!! Texting, twittering, etc.....how do people stay focused on anything?
OK, sorry for the rant.

i've been "inactive"for four years now.
i am quite proud of myself for making it this far since i moved out on my own at 22 for the first time.
i've remained in school, try to live a balanced and productive life and still drive home to visit my parents at least once a month (they live 45 minutes outside of the city) luckily, my parents and i still remain close (as much as a baptized inactive child and still fanatic jw parents are able to be) and besides my mom's constant pestering about me attending meetings again and coming back to the troof, i haven't had to much stress from them or the elders.
Stilla...so good to hear from you! Sounds like you're doing great, good for you!
You can tell your family your not coming back but they always hold out "hope". Just let it go....no matter how you put it, they never will.
As they age the pressure eases.
Take care and I'm so glad you are doing well!
