Good news: No longer an elder; Bad news: Disappointed wife

my wife & i have a good relationship except when it comes to things dealing with the wts.

over the past few years we've both made concessions, and i even made some headway in getting her to think about some things.

but from time-to-time we would end up arguing about something wts-related and there would be days of tension between us.. well, a few weeks ago we were having a casual conversation about wildlife in our area, she mentioned something about jehovah ruining those who ruin the earth.

Your story reminds me of my mom and dad. My dad was an elder for many years who came in as a teenager and my mom was raised a witness.

Through the years dad had more and more doubts, the 1975 thing started the whole works. They had many bitter standoffs after he resigned and left the WBTS. Mom was extremely disappointed and angry. They eventually learned to accept each other for the most part and let each live in peace without separating.

Their marriage was never great to begin with, a but a few things would really soften my mom's heart.

When she went to assemblies, dad would always spend the day cleaning the house and have a great dinner ready when she got home.

He always made sure she had a decent car for service and he kept it well maintained.

When he finally retired and they moved near us, dad converted their lanai into a beautiful room with herringbone hardwood floors, new windows, furniture, and extended the airconditioning, for mom to be able to have a large Tuesday night book study. On Tuesday nights dad would go into his office and frequent forums such as this, or work on his roadsters in the garage.

He is dead now, but at least mom finally got over her disappointment and realized she had support in a different way.

What if a religious org. came knocking on active JW's door? Reaction?

what if a couple of bible-believing christians were going door-to-door?

and what if they were preaching the kingdom of god?

what if they had biblesalone and were not handing out any other literature?

This happened to me. Two, young, nicely dressed men with bible in hands, knocked at my door. I couldn't tell if they were JW's or Mormons. I asked them who are you representing and they said the Mormons.

I thought of all the years I had spent in the door to door work and promptly and politely as I could said, sorry I'm not interested and shut the door.

I know......not very nice.

The separating of the sheep and goats has now officially begun. Perhaps they better set up some confessionals like the Catholic Church in order to handle the mass exodus of guilt ridden members that they will find unrepentant.

In order to save money just rent some porta potties and set them out in the parking lots get em in get em out.

'clearly, then , a sinner must be repentant if he is to receive mercy. However, neither shame nor fear of exposure is repentance. 'To repnet' meant 'to change one's mind' with regard to bad conduct, because of regret. A repentant person has 'a hear broken and crushed' and wants to 'right the wrong' if possible.

And they'll make sure to break and crush your heart if in their expert opinion it hasn't happened yet!

I get the feeling they are trying to woo current members who are on forums like this one into confessing because it's about the only way they'll catch em. I

Question for JW believers...or whoever wants to answer

i often wondered this myself a lot growing up, and i must know.... if there was no paradise hope, no promise of living forever or having your dead loved ones resurrected....would you still serve your god and follow the organization?

would you have ever began studying with the witnesses for that matter or stayed in the ''truth'' if you were raised in it?.

because isn't that the golden ticket that jw's wave in front of their studies or interested ones?

Another perspective on the carrot factor being raised a JW was that even if it were true, you were sold on the fact you were never going to measure up. No matter how much you did, it was never good enough.

This carrot was not attainable, therefore you lived your life waiting to die at the big A. As a kid I went through the following, firmly foretold by the watchtower: I would never go to highschool, I would never live to see my 20's or get married and have children. Following that, I would not see my children grow up....and on and on.

I got out as soon as I was able, but have fought that thought pattern my entire life.

By time I was 11 years old I knew I wanted nothing to do with it no matter what.

he's a good friend of mine who will have plenty to add here.

(he's written volumes on the dubs) having recently attained some much needed freedom he was able to join the forum.. he may be a little hesitant to come forth at first, but with a little coaxing...he's got a good "coming out of the org.

" story and lots of insight!.
