  taken from another posting on here (holy disfellowshipping batman).... 50 kids have been disfellowshipped from the following areas, round lake, palatine, crystal lake,cary,barrington, in the last 30 days.. anyone have any further info?.

  I attended a couple of those congregations and still have have family who are active JWs that live in those areas.

  If anyone has any information on this I would very much appreciate hearing about it.

  My apologies if this has been asked before, but I am wondering:

  (1) If there is anyone on this forum, who has a Mom or Dad who opened up that they were gay?

  (2) Were you a JW at the time? If so, how did this affect your relationship with your parent?

  (3) If you are no longer a JW, has your relationship with your parent improved?

  (4) Are there any parents on this forum who are gay and have children?

  (5) If you have come out to them, how has your relationship been affected?

  The reason I ask is that I am gay and a parent. I came out to my kids when they were between 13 and 21 years old. I had already left the Watchtower due to my crisis of conscience (this occurred about 10 years earlier). Initially the kids seemed OK about it, almost like it was no big deal (despite their being raised JWs). But, sadly, they each embraced the JW faith and shunned me.

  Although I realize that by embracing the JW faith they likely would have shunned me even if I hadn't "come out" to them, in letters I received from two of my kids (to officially shun me), my "homosexuality" was high on the list of things that they condemned in me. Of course, not the only thing, but it was a biggie.

  I am especially hoping for "insight" into the perspective of JW "kids" and how their views changed once they themselves left the Watchtower. I will always be hopeful that my kids eyes will be opened and that our relationship will be restored --- and maybe your responses will give me some encouragement, that this indeed can happen!

  Anyone attend Kingdom Halls in Elgin IL or near Crystal Lake IL?

  i have family members who attend (or have attended) a congregation in elgin illinois (i believe there are more than one) and others who attend some kingdom hall that serves the cary il or crystal lake il area (i am sure that there are several but i am not sure of the name the hall they attend).

  if you did attend an elgin congregation or a congregation that may serve the cary / crystal lake area, would you send me a pm?

  i would like to know if you know my family, but would like to keep their names out of a post.

  Hello!

  I have family members who attend (or have attended) a congregation in Elgin Illinois (I believe there are more than one) and others who attend some Kingdom Hall that serves the Cary IL or Crystal Lake IL area (I am sure that there are several but I am not sure of the name the Hall they attend).

  If you did attend an Elgin Congregation or a Congregation that may serve the Cary / Crystal Lake area, would you send me a PM? I would like to know if you know my family, but would like to keep their names out of a post.

  Anyone from Wisconsin (north of Milwaukee)?

  i just moved to wisconsin and wonder if there is anyone who posts on this site who is from the milwaukee area, specifically in the suburbs north of the city?

  any groups that meet up periodically anywhere in the milwaukee area?

  Mulan, it's sad that one can't walk away from the Watchtower without suffering the consequence of being shunned. Your nephew is in a very difficult situation. My situation was similar.

  Aoxo, I used to go fishing when I was a kid, but haven't gone in years (and years! <laugh!>). I'm really not into sports, but love volleyball. I love to go out dancing, to the movies and just hanging out with friends. I love being outdoors, but don't consider myself a rough and tumble hiker. In fact the older I get the more I NEED to get outdoors get active. If you find out that there is a group meeting would you let me know?

  It'd be great to meet you all... hopefully we can do that sometime this summer!

  Thank you both for responding and I'll definitely consider going the the ApostaBeerCheeseFest!

  KLS: I am fairly near to you, in fact I was just in Hartford last week to go to the KMart there (someone had given me a KMart gift card and Hartford was the closest place to use it!).

  Not having any close friends in the area (except my family, who also are my friends! <laugh!>) I am trying to network and find other people with similar backgrounds or interests in hope of finding nuturing some new friendships.
