Anybody who thinks this system of things is rotton needs to read a history book.

Sisters with unbelieving or DF'd mates
by lalaa inmy mother had left the truth for 4 years in the early 90's.
when she came back she was already remarried.
he started to study and got baptized.

It seemed to me that sisters with unbelieving mates were at the bottom of the heap socially.
I knew a few that were very frank about feeling like outcasts.

Do you carry in backcountry?
by daniel-p inthere was another thread that got a little derailed by arguments between gun-owners and non-gun-owners, but i'd like to continue the discussion of a single topic (without rantings on gun control, please):.
do you carry a firearm while in backcountry?
either 4-wheeling, backpacking, or doing ranch-related work, etc?

Yes, we carry, i think it would be silly not to.
However, I do also believe in using a big walking stick, staff, whatever you want to call it. They are usefull for so many things.
But I wouldn't be comfortible without a firearm too, it's one of the basics.

Did people DONATE for the literature when you went out in service?
by BonaFide ini think i got a donation maybe once or twice here in the states.
most of the friends don't ask for a donation.
in south america, more people donated, but i think it's because it was phrased differently, we used to say, "you can give whatever you want for this magazine.

Some days enough for me to buy groceries and diapers.
Dang snowbird, if I had known that, I would have been in service a whole lot more!

What UNUSUAL MARRIAGES have you seen among JW's?
by BonaFide inthese are couples that i know personally.. a brother i know married a sister 36 years older than him.
he was 35, she was 71. they are still married 5 years later.
they do not get along, and they make that known to the entire hall.. a brother that has been married twice and is 50 years old recently married a 19-year old.

The one unusual marraige that i can remember was when we attended a hall in Virginia.
He was in his late 20's and she was in her middle 50's.
But the part that was really strange to me was that he was gorgeous.
And by gorgeous i mean excessivly handsome with a chippindale body. Oh yeah, he also played guitar and had a beautiful singing voice. (I can still close my eyes and see him stripped down to the waist with a broad chest, bronze skin, playing the guitar and singing a love song..... sigh, I was thirteen at the time, I guess thats when I started noticing boys.)
They were both very nice warm down to earth people, she looked like your average ex-hippy momma.

It's been my experience that the brothers and sisters didn't even ask for a donation.
I never did, and no one I ever went out with did.
Which actually I think is very telling. Somewhere back in our little brains that we kept pushed back very far was the knowledge that the mags were really just crap.

Happy District Convention Experience - "Our Pioneer family ate food from the gutter."
by Witness 007 inyes how impressed i was 3 years ago at the district convention no less, when a pioneer family came out kids and all...the talk was on "sacrifice.
" the parents saying how dad works part-time in a crap job just for petrol money and bare necessities!
they relate how one day after witnessing the had no money left due to car repairs for food, but.....jehover provides...a vegetable truck must have taken a corner too fast and dropped some produce in the gutter....dinner said the pioneer kids....jehovahs blessing on us!.

The iron lung sister story always confused the hell out of me.
We were suppose to feel guilty because she was in an iron lung and yet she found time to pioneer.
After hearing that story all i could think was "She's confined to a iron lung, what the hell else could she be doing?

Crazy JW chaperon Stories
by superman inthe jw's must not trust their members or at least don't have too much faith in them when it comes to being alone around member of the opposite sex.
i can remember one time in particular from when i was a teenager that still makes me laugh today.. when i was younger i used to go out in service on a regular basis during the week when i had summer break.
one time when i met for service there were only two other people that showed up.

JW's are the most sex obsessed people i have ever met.
That's all they think about sex sex sex..
And then they project that onto worldly people, claiming the non-JW's are the sex obsessed ones.

One evening my finace showed up at our house to go to the meeting with us, I was not allowed to ride to the meeting in his car alone with him even though the hall was only minutes away because and I quote.
"I can name you ten kids that are alive today because they were conceived on the way to the kingdom hall!"
I heard this silly rant the entire brief period that I dated until my expediant marraige at 17.
