Did you ever know any JW's/Pioneers who frequented popular nightspots and got drunk?
by James_Slash init used to make me sick at these hypocrites.. they would be at the meeting the next day or out in field service, obviously still intoxicated from the night before but putting a show on before the congregation.
i knew a couple of girls who would be regulary doing this over a weekend yet they would be pioneers all week, answering up at the meetings yet would be heading into popular nightspots and coming home at 4am drunk.
their dad was an elder (surprise, surprise).. i remember telling an elder about this once.

What is the most secularly acclaimed Bible translation?
by sabastious ini want to start reading the bible more but i do not want to use the nwt.
the fact that the nwt took so many liberties makes me a little gunshy about other translations, which one would you recommend?.

I read the NIV bible. It reads more smoothly than others for me. I think there's bias in all translations, so it's difficult to try to figure out which one is the most accurate.

What was it that first got you thinking that the Society was WRONG in how they INTERPRET the BIBLE?
by UnDisfellowshipped inwhat was it that first got you thinking that the society was wrong in how they interpret the bible?.
for me personally, it was the way they always downgrade jesus to be an angel and are promoting the governing body in his place.. also when the society taught that jesus was abaddon/apollyon the fallen angel in revelation..

607 v 587 for me too. If they've got that one wrong, what else have they got wrong?

Demon possessed furniture?? Any scriptural support?
by digderidoo ini remember instances where we told that the demons could get into the house through furniture or ornaments.
if anyone had a problem in the house with demons, they should remove anything that they may have bought second hand.
i remember one family getting rid of their carpet!.

What is the basis for this belief? Is there anything in scripture to justify this viewpoint?
