Israel's Defence broken down ...

1. We haven't heard reports of deaths, will check into it

2. The people were killed, but by a faulty Palestinian rocket/bomb

3. Ok we killed them, but they were terrorists

4. Ok they were civilians, but they were being used as human shields

5. Ok there were no fighters in the area, so it was our mistake. But we kill
civilians by accident, they do it on purpose

6. Ok we kill far more civilians than they do, but look at how terrible other
countries are!

7. Why are you still talking about Israel ? Are you some kind of
anti-semite?

Weird crazy rules imposed by your local Elders.

we all know the sort of thing..... in many congregations, specific "rules" creep in...introduced by the local elders that become set in stone.. years ago, i heard of a congregation that sat down during the first song of the evening but stood for all others (the co changed that very soon after).

then there were the older accounts of congs that had rules to make the public speakers wear only white shirts.... in one cong now, i heard that brothers can only be used for sound or microphones if they do a minimum of 5 hours per month in the ministry!.

another cong has ruled that all appointed men must pioneer for at least one month each year in order to remain qualified.. .

Announced by the CO at the Circuit Assembly, sisters should not wear light coloured or thin skirts that could be seen through. The test was to get a torch, shine it through the back of the skirt between the legs, bend down and if you could see light the other side then it was unsuitable for a Christian sister to wear. He actually moved away from his lectern and demonstrated how the test should be done.

it was a cracking barbecue party for around 40 good friends and neighbours as well as my 'never jw' cousins and one of my brothers and his family.. .

drank a bit too much, embarrassed my kids with some 'dad dancing' and laughed until 2 in the morning.

"Honour" Killing in Pakistan

25 year old farzana iqbal was stoned to death by a crowd led by her own father and two of her brothers outside the high court in lahore yesterday.. her crime was to reject her cousin, who her family had decided she should marry, and fall in love with a man of her own choosing.. thousands of women are murdered every year in so-called "honour killings" but convictions are very rare.

pakistani law permits victim's families to forgive a murderer, but in these cases the killers are family members who are nominated to carry out the execution by the rest of the family.. this is what happens when you allow a mysogynistic religion to influence secular law.. reuters report...l.

The 1990 Qisas and Diyat Ordinance was amended in 2005 with section 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which allows the Court to override any compensation agreements arranged by the family. Section 311 legislates that the Court should give a minimum 10 year sentence for so called 'honour' killings despite any 'family pardons'.

The OP states, 'Her crime was to reject her cousin ...' and 'This is what happens when you allow a mysogynistic religion to influence secular law', which has lead others to infer that this killing is done somehow under the rule of law.

"The law allows them to nominate someone to do the murder, then forgive him. "

The forgiving is in relation to the commuting the death penalty to imprisonment, rather than being let off with the crime. That statement is very misleading, though I accept that it's a fault of Reuters and the person quoted, rather than yourself. I'd argue that convictions are rare due to people in communities in the countryside (where the majority tend to happen) being to scared to come forward as witnesses, rather than the fact that a family can commute the death sentence to imprisonment.

There is a fundamental flaw in the OP and some of the comments here.

This killing was NOT done under Pakistan law, Sharia law or any other law ... she was killed before the Court was opened, she was waiting to enter the Court as a witness for her lover who'd been accused of kidnapping her, the father has been arrested.

So called 'honour' killings are a big problem in Pakistan but they are not done under law, they are condemned by Pakistan law and justice will no doubt be served for this horrendous crime.

I have just completed a law degree and had to memorise hundreds of cases. A method that I used was to record my revision notes into my mp3 player, I played it everywhere I went. Also lots of practice of past papers if you can access them.

I have signed up for the two courses.

I don't think the course will focus on the reasons for adopting 587BCE as scholars take the date for granted without any dispute. It is only JW's that dispute the date. I think the focus of the course shall be around the events of the time period, as examined through the bible, archeology and other data.
