i'm just curious, what is everyone doing in this area?
i understand there may be a period for 'clearing' if you've only left recently, but i hear that many are pagans, some are christian so i just wanted to get an idea.

Having left one organised religion i do not wish to enter another. I am an independent thinker, with an open mind. I'm also left wing in my politics.
There are many here with opposing views...even though we all have started off from the same belief system.

i just want to say thanks to the number of people who i have spoken to and share stories with, i thought i was the only one who left for the reasons i did but i have met many and they have strenghened me in my life course now, basically i had never looked up witnesses before and was thinking about returning to the borg when i found this site, you all made me see that it would be like going backwards.
i feel strong now and will be not returning to this site, mainly as i want to let the past stay in the past, wts is the past and while i keep re-hashing it it will always affect my life.. thanks all.

i'm relatively new on this site...but one subject i've noticed that seems to create alot of interest is that of 1975.. our family became witnesses it 1983 so i wasn't around at the time.
forgive me if i do not understand why many were so angry with the wts at the time.. i understand the point that the society blamed individual witnesses and didn't take any responsibility themselves.
i can see how witnesses got angry over that.. but, what i do not understand is why many still research into what the society said, or didn't say, or insinuated.

I tend to agree with larc, is it worth any time and effort to try to come to terms with a god?
May be there is a god, may be not. If we accept there is a god, do we need an organised religion to show us the way??? I do not think we do.
We are here with a free will, a mind that allows us to think independantly, so to believe in god or not, is our own personal decision. I would not criticise anyone to think one way or another.
What's important to me is the here and now...accept that one day we will die...and try to cram in as much knowledge, as much experiences as we can.

my jw mum has chosen not to write a will.
as she has very little in the way of worldly goods, she has asked my brother and i to sell her possesions when the time comes, and give the money to "the congregation".
presumably the jw`s will decide suddenly that it`s now ok to talk to us df'd ones.. also, my mum has asked me to pack up all her 100's of wt books for presentation to the local congregation library.. now, i have to tell you that these books include the original watchtower and awake volumes.

I feel out of respect for your mom you should honor her wishes.
However, if you feel that it would be against your principles to give the society the books or money, then you must be straight with her so that she should make alternative arrangements.
First and foremost, i feel that whatever you decide to do, you should be straight with your mom.

I would have thought cards would be enough...unless your especially close to your work colleagues. Or may be just give them a bottle of whiskey or wine.
Some people i've worked with do not even send cards...for them it was all about getting drunk and having a good time.

One elder giving a public talk was getting excited about Moses and the Israelites being pursued by Pharoah and the Eygyptians...going into every intricate detail of the chase, his voice started to raise, he went on '...and Moses parted the Red Sea...they ran through....Pharoah gave chase...When the Egyptians were in the middle...The sea colapsed and killed the whole bloody lot of them!'...the cong were in hysterics!

I was doing mikes during a watchtower service, my younger brother decided to give an answer ... so, i took the mike over to him, held the mike in front of him and when he started to speak i began to twist the end of the mike with my one hand... one way then the other...the end of the mike was moving up and down in front of his face!...he began to laugh and struggled to give his answer...
