in previous years i had a number of ex jw issues and this site really helped both for support and to vent my anger.. hello to anyone who remembers me, though there looks many new ones now..

Phizzy, many who drink to excess give up alcohol just to prove that they can, the thing to look out for is not the fact that you can give up, but when starting again do you end up back to square one within a few short weeks, i know I would.

As for the Human Rights Act (HRA) to be used against the Watchtower, it never could. Whatever the issue is against the watchtower, would always be balanced against Article 9 of the ECHR (which the HRA implements), 'freedom of thought, conscience and religion'. So the HRA actually supports the Watchtower, rather be against it. The society has used Article 9 in the European Court of Human Rights many times against Russia.

Hi Phizzy, yeah you're right about the alcohol, not so much about the bible believer bit though lol

I went to my first AA meeting in January 2008 and moved forward. I went nearly 2 years without a drink and then drank at a birthday party thinking i'd be alright, I clearly wasn't as i was drinking on my own again a week later, that was my last drink ... 28th April 2010

I'm 2/3 way through a law degree now and done some teaching along with human rights work and i put it all down to giving up drinking.

I do read the bible from time to time, but wouldn't say i'm a believer, well only as much as i think it's a great piece of literature some of which is historically true and some of which is myth, much along the same lines as other religious writings.

But yes all is good. I've definitely moved on from my JW past, the angers gone. At the same time I accept the JW past that's inside me has partly made me who I am today.

most of us here know what a hypocritical, backstabbing bunch of gossips many of the jw's tend to be.

far too often, a jw wont tell you to your face what's eating them, but they'll sure tell others.

when i started waking up (the second time around) this made me very paranoid.

About 10 years ago this girl was all over me in a nightclub...unknown to me a couple of my ex jw mates had told her that i was well blessed...when we got back to hers, she was ever so disappointed...

Do You Blame Your Current Life's Issues Because You Were A JW?

do you tend to blame your problems on the fact that you were a jehovah's witness?.

I used to, but then who's to say that i wouldn't have had problems if my life had gone in another direction.

I remember discussing the fact i didn't take higher education due to being a JW with another recovered alcoholic. This guy is a very intelligent guy, went to grammar school as a kid, very studious, never went to higher education himself and now works as a tiler. He said he could relate to me not going to university because he didn't go as he thought the world was going to be destroyed by a nuclear bomb, so why bother. In his teens the nuclear arms race was at it's strongest, so he never bothered going to uni, thinking it would be a waste of time.

It really got me thinking, that there could always have been other reasons for my life not going in the direction that i wanted.

What matters now is the here and now, and where i want to be in the future. It's futile looking back, even non-ex jw's have made mistakes, we all do, at some point we all wish our life was better.

Speaking personally, i had to accept that what has happened in the past has already happened, there's no point dwelling on it, no point wondering what if, no point wondering why....just accept that it's happened and look forward.

what if i told you that the same calculator could give you two different answers depending on what symbol you used for the division. It should make no difference.

would every one agree that the following are equal 1/2 and 1÷2

yet copy and paste the following equations into the calculator i am giving you a link to

6÷2(1+2)=x

6/2(1+2)=x

Google gives the answer as 9 for both.
