  Did the elders suggest in what area you "should" live?

  i remember a time when there were new congregations and the elders told us that if some could move out in the country side about 25 miles away to that new congregation, it would encourage this new congregation that's just starting up and would need pioneers and qualified brothers.. i remember than atleast 25 in our congregation moved out there, just to show how fast a new congregation can be set up.

  it was as if god blessed this new congregation so rapidly.. i also remember the same period of time when the same elders made it known to us that moving into another congregation in this city wasn't well seen.

  afterall, we were formed in our local congregation and they needed us.

  This was probably one of the early rules that I never abided by. My family, (mother,sister, and myself in org at the time), drove to a hall about 15 minutes away outside the territory. I stayed there, even after my mother went back to the "proper" hall. As an adult, the first home I purchased was outside of the territory of my hall, and continued going. Only during a brief 5 year peiod of my jw life did I ever actually live in my cong's. territory. I even had a book study in one of my homes outside of the territory, which was because the area in which I lived a number of jws also went to the hall I was going to.

  The Hemi thing has always been a controversial one in engineering circles. One is cost. When Chrysler first introduced the Hemi in the '50s, (the 392, I believe), all of the engines actually needed to be ran, disassembled, and re-assembled before they left the factory. The Hemi was first dropped from production in the early '60s because of this. Then, a few years later during the muscle car era, they were reintroduced, (426). This WAS becasue they had the ability to make more power than the conventional wedge head design. However, they will ALWAYS, (all else being equal), do this by requiring more fuel. That did not make sense in the gas-embargoed 1970s, hence it was dropped again until newer technologies made it more practical once again, (i.e. fuel injection, computers, etc).

  for someone who lived in the uk, brooklan was like rome is to a catholic.

  we all had strange ideas to what it was like.. so how was it for you who live in ny.

  did it "feel" more spiritual, cos the hq where there or did you take it for granted?.

  Yes.

  I spent most of my life in NJ near NY, (had Bethelites in two of my former halls, that would actually commute back and forth to Brooklyn). Although most jws who lived here really didn't feel anything special, I would often hear comments such as, "the farther you get away from Bethel, congos have more problems, etc). I always thought that talk was such BS, especially having lived in three other states, and having attended halls there. Another good one was (during delegate visits to Russia for the International Convention), that the delegates all had to stay dressed in suits and ties and women in dresses at all times because, to them (Russian jws), we were considered as "from a place so close to Bethel", we had to set an even "better" example.

  I never quite got the no rated "R" movie thing. Movie ratings are country specific, (if a given country even uses such a system). Many movies for example, that are R in the US, are PG in Canada. Does the society really have two different sets of standards depending on one's locale??? Another obviously stupid and shortsighted ruling of the Borg.

  What are you up to this weekend?

  well, i've been reading, and reading, and even more reading and just dont have it in me to respond (midnight here)... so... here's whats going on with me this weekend.. i live in houston, and scheduled a trip up to austin for the weekend for a little race that we are participating in.

  Defiantely not doing anything as cool as paragliding. Going up about two hours away with my girlfriend to see an old buddy from high school, (haven't seen him since my sister's wedding about 7 years ago). Tomorrow, going "down the shore" as they say here in the Garden State.

  on another thread, a co says that sites like these don't have much impact on their numbers.. personally i didn't leave because of this site or any other xjw site.. i was unhappy and felt that something was wrong and this site confirmed what i felt.. how about you?
