It's really unfair to compare the two. Franz is not innocent by any means, but...
He also did not START jw-ism. That was Russell, and he was a nutjob. And it was Rutherford who chose to employ people like Franz.

1 cor 5:10,11 one scripture interpreted by one single man.....fred franz......a man locked up at at bethel with hardly any family has literally destroyed family relationship all over the world.
hitler or fred franz who has done more damage to humanity?

i was so inspired by the ridicolousness of thirdwitnoid in that other thread ("the gentile times reconsidered again...but this time i am using the bible"), in which he actually dared bring up the old "increase in earthquakes"-fairytale from the wt and asleep.
it really had nothing to do in that thread, which was about 607 vs 587 (oh no, not that again.... datelocationdeathsmagnitude.

Which is worse? A plane crash that kills all 10 people on board, 100 percent? Or a plane crash that kills 999 out of 1000--less than 100 percent? The answer is obvious.
OK, so somehow population is a GOOD reason for the "increasing of lawlessness" or whatever BS that is, I always thought that we were taught, (as jws), that it was because Satan was cast down to the Earth?
hiya folks.
just joined on board and figured i'd say a quick hello to all.
i'd get into more, but i'm soooo watching this ingrid bergman marathon on right now on turner classic movies...
Welcome, Raylo!

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/scams/jiffylube.asp a real eye-opener.
Agreed. With, my last visit to Jiffy Lube they left the breather tube disconnected on the air intake, (why did they disconnect anyway to change oil???), and within a day my check engine light was on. No more Jiffy Lube.

divorce is much more common in the jehovah's witness community than they would like to admit.
probably more so than the population in general in my opinion.. if you have been divorced, do you think that the watchtower society contributed to the divorce, or caused it, or is it just possible you married some jerk or abuser and divorce would have occured no matter what religion you were, or even if you had no religion?.
possibly you got married way too young as the end was coming and there is no marriage in the resurrection if you died.
Divorce is becoming very common in the jw community. At least 6 couples in my last congregation, (including my ex-and myself), were either divorced or separated within the last 3 years.
I would certainly say that the WTS contributes to this, at least indirectly. If we consider the aspects involved, it is easy to see why. First, dating is off limits, unless marriage is being considered. So what happens, young, horny people get married too young. I don't need to tell any adult what kind of mess that can potentially make. Bad start. Then, there is all of the "Theocratic" nonsense that pressured onto the marriage. This is no way helps. Especially, if one of the marriage mates, (like my ex), has some deluded understanding of what being a truly "spritual" person is. In her case, it was all about image. Very fake, but very common in jw land. An honest person cannot put with this for long, without needing to be medicated.
Finally, when things get to the breaking point, the only "scriptual" way out is some form of adultery, (this makes absolutely NO sense). So let's see, let's have a one night stand, just so we can get out this mess! Any thinking person can see what is WRONG with this. Much better to just leave the abusive situation. I usually find most people, (at least one of the marriage mates), will leave the org. when it comes to this, simply becasue it's one of those things that makes one clearly see what is wrong with the "biblical" counsel, and the legalism of upholding it.

the watchtower and the deciding factors
can you recall the very first inner voices of doubt that.
you carried about the watchtower society?
I would have to say that my doubts began with their ridiculous view on having a beard.
Evergreen, I would agree that this was one of those things that I just couldn't reconcile either. I grew my goatee as soon as I left.

every september, at the beginning of the jw "service year", a letter to publishers is printed in the km.
this letter addresses recent layoffs at bethel:.
our kingdom ministry september 2006 (for united states of america), page 1. dear kingdom publishers:.
Therefore, mature, experienced brothers and sisters who have benefited from Bethel training are being assigned to the field where they will be able to contribute much to the preaching and disciple-making work.
That's just plain sick.

my folks studied in the sixties but never were baptized.
they enforced the no xmas and holidays in general but stopped attending the meetings after about three years.
my mom was baptized in 1990, dad still isn't.
I was taught "the truth" from about 1978, (at age 5) when my mother started studying with the jws. My father was actually the one who started the discussions with the witnesses, but never came in. Mom didn't get baptized until 1986, and was never "strong". She was df by 1995. However, all the rules applied, from age 5 on up. No holidays, birthdays, dances, MTV, etc. When I was old enough, at age 15 I decided to get baptized on my own. This was largely out of guilt. Having "weak" parents is really a double whammi in the org, because you are automatically looked down at in the org because of your parents supposed "weaknesses". Making friends in the org was not easy as a teenager because of this. Definately sucked.

Actually, for me, LEARNING of the 1975 thing was quite a shock. I only first heard this from a friend around 1991 or so. I had been brought up in the org, family in since '78. I could not believe this could NEVER have been brought up in those 13 years I've been associated. I didn't believe it at first, but my source was reliable. Something was fishy in dub land. That was the beginning, it would take me almost 15 years to actually leave after that point.

i am planning a european vacation, can anyone recommend a hotel in paris, that is close to cdg airport, doesn't have to be all that nice but safe, clean and cheap.
.
I just stayed at the Hilton right by the CDG. Very Nice, and you can walk to the RER to get into the city.
