i have come across some old threads that make various accusations against rayfranz, but i think on the whole he seems a kind and thoughtful person.
he didn't do everything right, and he is no saint as some make out: his expulsion is a bit flatteringly called a "crisis of conscience", but he came to terms with the disorienting situation well and did a service to all involved with the witnesses by giving us a look behind the curtain.
some of the things that people hold against him it seems:.
VM44,
The book says it was "possibly written by Gene Smalley" And the "spadework" was probably done by John Albu, a "scholarly witness in New York"

go back to the kingdumb hall??
even for someones wedding or a loved ones funeral?
Generally speaking, no. However, there may be a funeral or two I would have to consider, if it came to that.

Ray Franz has done much more good than bad. I can hardly see the point in finding fault for his days on the GB, etc. I know it would have been much harder, (if not impossible), for me to leave the organization were it not for his written efforts.
Blondie, Thank you for the web and email.

i was raised a jw, third generation.
grampa was a congregation servant and then elder, my dad was an elder for years.
i made it up the ranks fast, you were not anybody if you did not become an elder, i was appointed at an early age.
SKYDIVING??? Good one j

a thought i had daydreaming while at the recent convention .
old timers in the organization often reminisce about the way the wts was many years ago.
attending a convention meant (a) getting hot meals, (b) orchestra music before and during sessions, and (c) two, three, or even four dramas.
Excellent post! Apathy is a significant problem in the org these days. I remember looking forward to working at conventions, as a youngster, it was field watch, (Yankee Stadium), as an adult, (working in the Telecom industry, I worked on all of the voice communication systems). Actually I burnt out on the telecom stuff, becasue I became responsible for working at multiple conventions, (not just mine), during the summer. That meant leaving work Thursday night going to the convention facility, getting everything working overnight, then going back to work Friday morning.
All in all, it beat the drudgery out of 3 or 4 days of listening to the same old schlep. Although these particular things are still done at conventions, food service, and many other things have been eliminated. I noticed after quitting working at conventions, that I no longer enjoyed them, and began to understand what apathy was all about.

i have been writing my story today, before i joined the forum, and my friends linda and trev have encouraged me to post it.
actually, i found it very therapeutic to write it al down.
i hope it doeasn't bore you too much, as it is rather long.
I believe there's an old KM that DOES say 1975 is the time of the end.
I believe the November '74 KM more than implied it. Does anyone have a copy to paste on the board?
Marion, Great Story!

i am marion, a friend of fullofdoubtnow (linda), and i have just disassociated from jehovahs witnesses.
i was only announced a couple of days ago, after a lifetime of association.
linda has posted about me before, but it's wonderful to be able to post in my own right, and i am really looking forward to getting to know you all.. i am 59 years of age, 60 in november, and have been a jw all my life, baptised since 1961, and i thought i would always be a witness, but i now know absolutely that it isn't the truth.
Welcome, Marion!

to those who have followed my previous thread - here is the latest update [and hopefully the end of the story].
though this sounds bad enough - no one wants to have cancer of any sort - this is both the most prevalent and the most treatable of all skin cancer.
it is tied directly to uv exposure.. the good news is that basal cell is treated with simple proceedures of removal of the affected tissue in most cases [including mine.
Sounds good so far, Jeff!
