last night i took one of my daughter's highschool friends to the rodeo with me since noone else was interested.
we had a good time with the freebee vip tickets, barby and then the rodeo.
before the first event there was a half hour of pagentry which was okay, but it was interrrupted by an "invocation" by one of the local baptist ministers.
How about boxers in the ring, before they start fighting they both get on their knees and pray to their God.
Mostly likely each is praying for the death of the other.
When good things happen to people, whether JW's or others they always think that Jah had something to do with it but when they don't get what they want or need, the tendency is to excuse God by saying it was not his will
those that don't pray, their lives are just as good as those that do.

i was the only jw in my family.
by that i mean my parents never were jw nor was my sister, and i'm single.. when i started fading back in the early 90's as a jw, my sister and her husband decided to start attending meetings with the evangelists, then the pentecostal religion, and then the baptists.
they're baptized in that religion.
At least you can walk away from them and even tell them what you do not agree with and they will still love you and not shun you

however i noticed that as the years went by more and more 'brothers' were wearing them including during the lunch break in the city centre concerned.
Very embarassing going to a restaurant wearing the badge and then 10 witnesses trying to convert the waitress.

Can the Society trust any of the elders at all?
They will have to come up with a better way to communicate info.
i beleive now days they cannot even trust Circuit or District overseer with any infomation.

having cooled down a bit in the garden i got to thinking about what this board has given me and wondered what anyone else feels they have gained from it.. for me its been invaluable and even life changing:.
1) freedom from the brainwashing - when i came here i had already read ray franz's books and still believed it jws had the truth - hat i was basically worthless and that i would die at armageddon.
the reasoned conversations and help of the posters from all over the world has enabled me to have freedom of thought - something i didnt even know i didnt have until i spent time here.. 2) friends who empathise and know from an experience what i have been through in a way outsiders can never possiby understand.. 3) entertainment - unbelievable laughs and moments of humour that have cheered me up so many times.. 4) association - via the aposta bbqs and telephone chats i can now have so i don't feel so isolated and to some extent alleviates the awful pain of separation from my loved family.. 5) information - from this board and posters here i have found out things that were my right to know but would never have learnt otherwise - my sisters marriage, my aunts tragic death.. 6) reunions - i have now met at least one person who knows me from my childhood and has grown into a man of such kindness and patience that i would have missed out on completely had he not been here and been kind enough to hold my hand - even when i've been an irritating totured little idiot!.
I gave a public talk in Joe and Barbara Anderson Congregation in 2003 and afterward as one of the elder took me out to lunch they filled my mind on how wicked and demonized they were and of course at that time i beleived every word i was told until coming on this board and eventually being able to talk to Barbara on the phone and finding out why they hated her and that she is a loving and kind person that truly cares for those that have been sexually abused. Because of her and many others we have seen changes in dealing with the problem of child abuse.
Reading so much about all of you guys it made me realize after all, you are not working for SATAN.

parents are naturally concerned that their children not make the same mistakes they did.
the society seem to be worried about the power of this impulse to protect one's children.
page 161 of the new book live with jehovah's day in mind reads:a dampening of our expectation of jehovah's great day could reveal itself in the advice we give to our children or to others.
Let's not forget that those that write these books are taken care of and have been taken care of for decades.
No rent or mortgage, no worry about health care,no food bill,no electric bill and all of us out here know what it takes to make ends meet without a decent job.
Many of these brothers on top of that travel all over the world without spending a dime and most of the time coming home with hundreds of dollars due to the brothers donating to them.
Today husband and wife have to work full time just to stay above water and not drown in bills.
Easy for them to tell others not to encourage their kids to go to school
