We're Back! Finished Romans

mrs ozzie and i are just back from a very stimulating week studying the complete bible book of romans at the feet of noted bible scholar paul barnett.. as many of you would appreciate, it was reading the book of romans that led many brooklynites to see the truth about 'the troof'.

much interesting detail is given in ray franz's book crisis of conscience.

in short, a thorough reading of the complete book, in context, would cause a thinking jw to start to question many of his previously held absolute truths.. we're a trifle tired, so maybe some tidbits later.

The Absolute "Climax" in My Life as ...

today i experienced the absolute "climax" in my life .

the first words he spoke to us, when we asked him about the state of health of my aunt, were: .

at this moment we were aware of the fact that my aunt always spoke the truth about this man; but she was unable to help herself.

Erich, you must feel terrible right now. I am sorry to hear of you not only losing your aunt but being your dear loved one taken advantage of.
I realize that you are hurting right now, but perhaps by taking action you will save others from this predator. I dont know all the details, but if you have one elder that you can trust, have him call the legal department in Brooklyn. If they think for one minute that you are going to go public with this matter, you might be amazed at the results. And once again, this would keep your wife appeased.
In my opinion, if you handle this right you will honor your dear aunt's memory.
That might end that con-man/shepherd's game.
Im appalled at what happened to you at such a stressful time and you have my condolences.

I Attended a Christian Convention last weekend

when i was a jw (born and raised), i was lead to believe that the clergy class of christendom was some elite class who ruled over the meek and mild sheep of the congregation; that they wore fancy robes to do their services in, and generally were every bad thing the wts told me they would be.. they lied.. i attended a christian convention just this last weekend.

it was a non-denominational one, meaning you didn't have to be of a certain faith to attend, neither were some of the speakers who participated.

however, the organisers were from the anglican (church of england) religion so the communion on sunday was conducted according to anglican tradition, but i'll get to that later.. one of the things that hit me first was that you were allowed to wear what you liked.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your experiences. Glad you had a memorable time. After all those meetings at the kingdom hall,(which are as dry as a popcorn fart)one notices a big difference in both the teaching and enthusiasm at other religious gatherings.

What do you think the Dateline show will do?

i am curious.

does anyone really believe the dateline show will make very many current dubs "wake up" and leave?

do you think it will bring the organization down?

Bill Harvey Bowen has always said,

"Its for the kids."

He is certainly realistic enough to know that there wont be wholesale defections because of Dateline. That would be nice, but it wont happen.

My dear sister was molested by a career pedophile who was a ministerial servant at the time. I could go on and on about that situation, but I will just say this. After some time she was overwhelmed with guilt and began coming out from under the pedophile mind control game. She went to our mother whereupon she instituted judicial proceedings. He denied it and the VERY next day after the committee meeting was reading the Watchtower from the stage. I was a youngster at the time, but that memory is etched into my brain. He is now dead, but eventually my sister was exonerated when he was caught fondling someone else.

That was a long time ago and things have changed somewhat (even in the WT) since those days.

Bill is forcing the WT to change even more drastically in this area. The WT leadership knows full well that some rank and file JWs are going to be asked some very pointed questions about their policies on child abuse and pedophiles after that Dateline airs. No PR boys there to field questions and give a slick lawyer's answer.

Disfellowshipping: A protection in the end?

well, the year is nearly out, and as the new one approaches i'm thinking back on 2 years of being in the online exjw community and, in june 2002, my four year anniversary of my df'ing.. when first i came to h2o seeking comfort and support in january 2000, i had been df'd for a year and a half and online nearly 4 years but never had the guts to type "jehovah's witnesses" into a search engine.

that search led me to freeminds (thanks, randy *hug*) and then, to h2o.. what a journey its been.

i've gone from devastation at losing my family, to anger, through the anger to numbness, back through sadness, and now after much soul searching and a chance change of circumstances last summer, come to look at my disfellowshipping in an entirely new light.. those who know my history know that i was born into the borg, baptized at 12, married at 19, and was a very loyal, unquestioning dub until the age of 24 when the elders told me that my miscarried babies had no status with god.

Yes , on the surface of things, it is "thin".

You and yours are smart enough to see that.
However, we will see what surfaces after the holidays.
And let me promise you this will go much deeper than contacting the Unitarians. Thats all I will say for now.

Hi biblexaminer!

You are indeed a man of action. Something that is greatly appreciated. Your family circumstances are like mine so that we feel the urgency.
If I might be so bold as to make a suggestion. If you ask broad, general questions, they wont get rattled. What I was going to attempt was to get some printed literature on their TOTAL christian membership. They of course, have a Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Islamic, etc. makeup as well.
I was also going to try to get reports on what programs they have been involved in collectively. Especially in line with the UN. I am going to talk with several within the Interfaith center.
But whatever way you handle it, I am sure it will be just fine. Sometimes the direct approach is best.
