The Passing of a Friend
by startingover intoday we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, common sense, who has been with us for many years.
no one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
he will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Question about shunning from someone who has never been a JW....
by whyizit ini wondered, since the jws claim that jesus is their teacher, what evidence do they have of jesus shunning "bad associations"?
it seems to me, from reading the bible, that the religious people of his day really gave him a hard time, because he actually spent the majority of his time with "bad associates", rather than shunning them.
thomas, though he followed jesus, wasn't totally convinced.

Just so i'm not confused here, are you saying that Matt. 10:14 proves that DF'ing and DA'ing is scriptural? You sure are reading alot into "dust-shaking".....I don't even think the Watchtower uses that scripture to support disfellowshipping, (I could be wrong on that point, but if the society did, they would be taking the scripture out of context too.) No reasoning person would come to that conclusion from reading that verse. Can you honestly sit there and say you think this is what Jesus was talking about? If so, he didn't make it very clear, or even elaborate on the matter.
Have you read Matt. ch.10?? It has nothing to do with DF'ing or DA'ing. These are clear instructions Jesus is giving for how to carry on in a ministry, and, "shaking dust off your feet" when someone doesn't want to listen, is just a small part of what he said. Jesus also told his apostles to, "raise dead persons, make lepers clean, expel demons". (Vs. 8) If "ONE OF" Jehovah's Witnesses EVER raised somebody from the dead or cleaned up a leper I think we all would have remembered!
The fact of the matter is that if you decide to start thinking for yourself and come to the conclusion that Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT who they claim to be, there is NO WAY they will let you leave in a honorable way. They will twist some scripture around and apply it to you, or just plain tell lies about what type of evil person you are if you leave. I've seen it too many times, and am embarrassed to say, did it myself. Most people on this site know this, it's what witnesses do, and it's one of the big reasons we left. It's unchristian, uncaring, and frankly disgusting.
I spent a few DECADES as a witness, pioneering and in Brooklyn too, and I know that the Watchtower publishing Co. is just that, and nothing more.
There's a old saying, "Don't pee down my back and tell me that it's raining".

"there's no such thing as a smoking christian".....(?)
There sure was alot of them back in the 60's, baptised, and attending Kingdom halls. Back then at my hall in S. Calif., there was a 15 minute break to have a quick smoke between the public talk and WT study on Sundays. That must have been before the American Cancer Society helped the holy spirit to show the Faithful and Discreet Slave how dangerous smoking was, and give any Jehovah's Witness, (oops sorry!) "smoking christian" 6 months to quit or be disfellowshipped.....and you can use the same example regarding any other disfellowshipping offense the society has come up with for the last 50 years or so...Christmas, birthdays, talking to someone DF'd, etc. Would you also say that there is no such thing as a christian who celebrates birthdays? Or goes to a neighbors funeral at the church he attended?
There are so many things you've said that I would love to respond to, but everybody else has done a much better job beating me to it!

The Organization Is A (fill in the blank space)
by metatron inok, here's the challenge: how do you tell your witness "friends" and relatives that you don't think it's the "truth" - without them labeling .
you as an apostate and fleeing in terror?
i'm tired of questions behind my back like "doesn't he go to meetings?

Letter from the WTBTS
by sammielee24 incan anyone tell me how long i might have to wait - in general - for a letter from the watchtower?
i sent them 2 different letters in regards to some questions that i have and i just want an idea of how long to wait until i send a follow up.
in actual fact i'm not even expecting them to respond but how long do i give them?

It depends on what you asked them and how comfortable they are with thier own reply. What would happen to them if they just don't answer your letter? If the answer to that is "nothing", that's what you'll probably be getting in the mail from them..... :)

The quickest, best way to have a Witness open their eyes to being a cult
by free2beme inmy sister was probably one of the most loyal witnesses out there.
all her responses were pulled right from the watchtower thinking, "sorry you feel that way, but i believe jehovah's witnesses are god's people.
" well in time we came to an agreement, "you do not bring up your negative thoughts on the religion, and i will not try to get you to come back to the religion.

One of the biggest problems with JW's (or any cult), is that there is no honorable way to leave them. Period. They make it that way.
When my dad kept trying to get me back to the meetings, I realized after a while, all the talks, letters, visits, etc., that there was NOTHING I could say to him that was going to make a difference. Nothing that I could say to him that would change ANYTHING.....No matter what I said, it didn't matter....only that I needed to get back to the meetings. THERE IS NO HONORABLE WAY TO LEAVE THE WITNESSES......Try pointing THAT out to a dub! GYMBB
