The same reason they had to come up with "Disassociation". Too many people were leaving the organization and sharing WHY they were leaving and what they had learned. The WT society cannot have its members talking about that kind of stuff with former members, even if they haven't done anything worthy of being DF'd. Family members can talk about anything else, but not the religion, simple as that.

Why are they so quick to shun?
by Crazyguy incedars story made me wonder why are parents and loved ones so quick to shun??
i mean it can be shown biblically that only people that do not believe in jesus as the messiah are apostates.
thessalonians tells us to keep admonishing one as a 'brother' and jesus christ himself said to love your enemies.

Brooklyn Eagle Article: WT Tunnels - Mysterious, Lingering Remnants Ministerial Heights Presence
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/watchtower-tunnels-mysterious-lingering-remnants-ministerial-heights-presence-2013-10-16.
very interesting article.
how much do you think the wt has to pay the city for using their own four tunnels?.

I was there from 76' thru 79', and the tunnels were great in the winter, and helped serve for security purposes. Once you were inside Bethel with your key, you were suppose to make sure to lock the door behind you and don't let anyone in unless you knew them. You could go from bldg to bldg without using your key again. But, they didn't want anyone else in, even other JW's, even elders, unless they had a bethelite with them. Now THAT I always thought was a little creepy. If sombody from your cong. came to visit, the front desk would call you in your room and you had to come to the front desk to escort them back to your room. They wouldn't even trust other JW's to tell them, "The elevators are over there, he's in room #530 on the 5th floor".

Stands For True Worship. I am turning myself in......
by DATA-DOG injust answer this question in an honest and unbiased way, free from any circuitous reasoning or speculation.
if you do so, i swear to my heavenly father, that i will call the elders tonight and turn myself in.

I think one of the stupidest things I've ever read on JWN, is a troll actually saying that he's waiting for the local branch to rule on if it's appropriate or not for a publisher to count time while posting on a known apostate website. Did SFTW actually say that in the first paragraph of his long non-answer?

How to DF 2 PeopleĀ With ZERO Proof! New YouTube video and article
by RayPublisher inthis story is quite remarkable and no doubt many will appreciate it being told.
it is telling for several reasons; it highlights the fact that the watchtower organization can expel and marginalize anyone for literally anything if they are crossed.
they did that to ray franz back in the early 1980s and they recently have done it to these fine folks.. there are some six pieces of documentation in the account and it is in some ways a complicated mess, but it really boils down to a couple of active witnesses informing on someone to the elders.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me years ago. I tried to fade but they were not going to let it happen. They kept hounding me to meet with them, finally they said if I didn't meet with them, they would DF me. On what grounds?? Not wanting to go to meetings anymore? Wanting to be left alone? Well, I'd have to come to the meeting to find out. So I went to the damn meeting and told them you can't fire me, I quit! Handed the closest elder standing next to me my DA letter and walked out the front door. Wished I'd have done it 25 years ago...

"you're pretty compassionate for an atheist"
by Hortensia inmy favorite compliment of the day.
what a lot of assumptions people have about what makes an atheist tick..

This backhanded compliment reminds me of something an elder had said to me many years ago, after I had told him that I no longer felt the need to go to the meetings. he said, "That's a shame, you always seemed so smart and reasonable".

SFPW~ If you want to stick around and count time, I don't mind at all. You're doing a great job at showing all the lurkers who are reading this thread how mind-controlled JW's are. Thanks bud!

Seeing this made me very sad. So many old names of people I'd not thought about for so long. A dozen or so folks who I worked with and knew years ago at Bethel in another life...

The door bell rang today
by ABibleStudent injust before i started undressing to take a shower to go to an appointment, the door bell rang.
i thought about not answering the door, but then thought what the hell it could be my neighbor, who is a widow and in her 70's, needing some help.. at the door was a frail man about 85+ years old dressed in a shabby sport coat, shirt, tie, and slacks, and a skinny woman about 75+ years old in a long dress that needed to be ironed.
as i grabbed my dog to prevent him from jumping at the screen door, which was partially open, and beating the couple with his tail and making them fall, i thought what am i going to do.

I agree with Villagegirl~ These two old-timers could be my parents. Long-time JW's, in their 80's, too invested in the cult that they can't quit now...just be kind to them..they're lost.

Did Jesus really exist?
by slimboyfat ini had been wondering over the past few years whether there really was a historical jesus at all, until a few months ago when i read bart ehrman's latest book "did jesus exist?
" initially i was persuaded by his argument that the nt contains multiple sources that testify to jesus' existence.
but more recently i have been reading the christ myth position of richard carrier and his responses to ehrman.
