Dang, that's rough. I had the same thing happen to me this month, with "brothers" talking behind my back and my friends' backs.
"And you will know you are my disciples if you have love amongst yourselves."
Yeah. Take away all vestiges of Brooklyn and see what kind of love you'd get...without the constant reminder to be kind to one another...

Is is easier to just forget about religion as a whole??
by EC ini feel like i am getting bitter and that is onr thing i do not want to be...but this whole religion, god thing is gets to be too much... .
i do believe there is a creator, but have no idea what the purpose is.....i've tried the whole jesus thing, but really that doesn't make too much sence to me either....so where does that leave me???
in limbo....so i would rather just forget it all... .

I'm finding myself in the same boat. Now that the main doctrines are becoming discarded, were they wrong about everything? Do I have to throw the baby out with the bathwater?
That's probably going to be the hardest part, the de-Watchtowerifcation. The only thing I can think that will do it is a the good bible I do have, the New International Version. It's already so encouraging, because Jesus isn't relegated to great-man-plus-super-angel-but-not-really-god status like he is in the publications. -

"LOL That must have been spooky and hilarious at the same time, SirNose (intriguing nick btw!). Did you get to see who was seated closest to him? Any wealthy JWs in expensive suits and overpowering perfumes? I'd have paid to watch their facial expressions!
INQ"
No, not too many people have particularly nice suits or strong perfumes. He sat by himself, but people around him were just really uncomfortable. I thought about letting him borrow my Bible so he could stick around and continue to make people uncomfortable. Even to this day, the attendant for that night still apologizes about letting get all the way up to the front.
My sister and I have a laugh about it every so often. We imagine that he's got a girlfriend somewhere, and if she came to the hall, she would be mumbling, "Ruuuuuuuuuuth!" -

Did You Ever Have a GOOD Body of Elders?
by Warlock inwhen i came into the org.
in the early 1980's, we had a good body of elders.
they took the lead and cared for the sheep.. the oldest was in his mid- 70's, had a sharp mind, great sense of humor and was just plain cool.

We've got a couple of nice guys on my BoE...one is my grampa, and the other started a congregation in Israel and North Dakota.
Other than that we are headed by a Bethelite salesman. I'm kind of wishing they'd make him a CO or DO. -

What if they're right?
by LovesDubs indid that mentality keep you in fear and prevent you from leaving?
how many times were we told that the kingdom halls would be our ark and that we needed to keep going to the meetings so that we wouldnt miss the announcement that the great tribulation was beginning and the doors of the ark were closing...even though the bible says nobody knows the day or the hour?
did any of you ever pray for your relatives to die so they would have a ressurection and not be destroyed at armageddon?

In the earlier weeks of my research, I used to kid myself and say, "Well, I'm having doubts, but at least there's this much, there's a FDS class that receives divine guidance on scriptures." Reading snippets from CoC just basically destroyed that, and how decades of theology were shaped by a handful of people.
And then I found out about finding nice brainwashed people anywhere...and then personally finding out about some fake people...
I did have that thought in the back of my mind, but it's pretty much dead now. -

Has there been new light on this?

I agree, zoos can really just look like prisons. I'm privileged to live by some of the best zoos in the world. I suppose this article was stashed in the same corner as the "chess is evil" article in a long series of nutty moralizing...
My grampa is an elder and has a zoo membership so no one pays attention to that. -

I was too young to remember it, but my sister was just old enough to remember a long time ago when this disgruntled guy marched up to the stage and socked an old man in the face.
One time, and this was probably late last year, this bum came in and the attendant was distracted or something, because the dude wandered up to the third row. I could smell him before I could see him. Booze, cigarrets, general uncleanliness were all rolled into a powerful funk. He sat down and started mumbling "Iiiiisaiiiahhhhhh...." whenever the speaker called out scriptures from Isaiah or other places. They eventually got him to leave, but the funk stuck around for a day or two.
One time I showed up too late to see it, but this one catty chick was getting chewed out in front of the hall. Apparently the catty chick and another were scrapping in the hall. Neither of them are in the congregation now, of course. -

Bombshell court cases--about the child abuse, other WTS lies, and so forth. Information was so tightly controlled, it was disgusting. Any information that was negative about the WTS was immediately labled as "apostate" in my mind, but when I found some information that convicted them from an online encyclopedia, that opened it up for me, really. I couldn't dismiss it as propaganda because it was in the Encyclopedia Britannica!
Going on about those bombshell cases, they need to be huge. JWs were aware of the big Catholic church child abuse scandals because they were ubiquitous. A big case needs to come out and just plaster the pages and the airwaves. Naturally some will turn away when faced with a contemptable aspect of "the truth"--that the congregational structure makes hiding and retaining child abusers easy. Information is the key, because I can think of plenty in my hall who have the rosiest picture of the WTS. And why not? They "simplified" their lives so much that they have no need for cable TV, internet, or newspapers. Ones like these will never be awoken from their slumber.
It's always been drilled into the R&F's head that whatever you do, you can't varnish the image of the Society. Oh, that was a bigger sin than blasphemy. The man in the booth needs to be revealed.
I'm going to do my part and urge people to find out the truth about the destruction of Jerusalem by the Nebuchadnezzar in 587/586 BC. They will either want to find out more, or they will have really brainwashed themselves to the point where numerous sources of 587/586 BC are just "Satan's tampering." -

Now that I understand why I'm trying to leave, I'm also gaining a clear definition of why people join. They are offered friendship, a social net, attention, etc. The person was already searching for a change in his/her life, and the witnesses offered it and more.
It makes so much sense as to why JWs have a higher rate of mental illness as compared to the general population--who else is going to love and accept this weird person? In any other social setting, their strange behaviour makes them outcasts. But here, they are given rules and friendship, and no desire to let any of it go. -

My friends, I went to church
by Sacchiel infor the first time in my life and it was memorable.
it was a relief to hear the bible being preached, the bible alone!!
i don't think any jw's can picture that.

Good that you were able to find what you were looking for. I'm looking for any opportunity I can to just innocently say, whenever someone was unable to place literature, "Well, showing the person scriptures from the Bible was enough, wasn't it?" Or perhaps, "Maybe placing literature should come in second to being able to witness from the scriptures." You know, not confrontational or anything, just enough to get them to think. Paul wrote that Scripture would make every man FULLY equipped.
