i recently got to meet comedian dan bialek as he stopped by in san diego.

he's a cool guy, and i can really relate to his humor because it's awesomely sarcastic and filled with references to comic books, sci-fi flicks, etc.

dan's got a weekend show in l.a. called twelve shiny nickels and i'll end up going when i get the chance.. dan recorded a standup session in august of last year and you can get the whole thing for free here:.

back in high school i had a friend who was a little weird, but he was cool enough and i liked him.

he was really into martial arts.

i really have a problem with all those "miracle checks from god" stories they'd feature in the litterature.

you know the ones i'm talking about.

sister impoverished is out of a job, having to feed 10 kids, and the very next morning after she sends in her application to pioneer, then presto!

The Society is Upset: R&F Not Following the Recommended Lodging List

an elder read a letter last night, and i practically giggled through the whole thing.

his poorly manufactured gravitas was most amusing, given the ludicrous content of the letter.. it seems the society is pissed that the friends aren't choosing the "recommended lodging" when going to conventions.

i remembered two important details about the letter.

if you're on the do not call list and you live in the us, or if you want to join it so you can be left alone, i have good news: at the last meeting, the congregation was informed that from now on, "dncs are supposed to be checked on by telephone, not at the door by publishers.

do not call to update the records.

a group of brothers will be assigned to check on these by telephone.".

Thoughts on the public prayer of Witnesses

many years ago, a brother gave a public talk on prayer wherein he stated that "each prayer should be like a snowflake--no two should be exactly the same.

" i agreed with his sentiments, and as a good little jw boy, i resolved that each prayer i said to god would be unique.

however, there was a problem with my resolution: i could never see examples of older people making sure that each prayer was unique.
