That last one was funny too. That guy went crazy on the balloon throwers!! Thank god we don't have any teens motivated enough to peg people with water balloons in my 'hood. Because then I would have to regulate on fools, and get counciled for violence.

by that i mean, never in trouble with the elders, no loss of restrictions, no disphellowshippings, disassociatings, fadings, reproof - public or private.. of course most of us fit one of these categories.

Are you kidding ? Lets see my JW mother and her dickhead husband was baptised in 1975, in 1978 and 1979 I smoked pot with them both, all the while my mother was having lesbian sex with her niece. She lies so bad and so much it's pathetic. Gossiper to the extreme and about the most unloving person I have ever met. Now with that just being a drop in the bucket they have never been disfellowshipped. They have gotten away clean from their actions but man if the shoe is on the other foot they will make damn sure that if someone else screws up they run to the elders and snitch. What a lovely freakin family I got in the jehooberism faith. They make me sick and I do not have anything to do with them.
Wow oldflame, your story sounds straight out of a Jerry Springer episode! It never ceases to amaze me how well dubs are trained in hiding how they really are. Maybe because we all get such good practice...

in all the years i attended meetings, i don't recall seeing anyone kiss anyone there....... all i saw were handshakes.. not even any hugs.. i thought of this a few days ago, when my cousin came over to visit my old parents, and when he left, he gave a warm handshake and slight hug to my dad and hugged and kissed my mom on each cheek.. you don't see this at the kh.
I think part of this is the Witnesses social conditioning, and part of it is cultural. One thing that I learned from others who lived abroad, is that some other countries like Japan and other places, it is very taboo to hug a sister for any reasons.
As I understand it, a hug is equivalent to a kiss in Japanese culture. So I was happy to get some nice big hugs from visiting Japanese hotties.
I got a question for my limeys out there. You see, I was told that the British congregations were the most cold out there. As in, they might not say hello to you at all. How's the warmth there in those jolly old British congregations? Might that be the case in more conservative, wealthy parts of Britain?
just had dinner with some worldly friends and relatives and what a great time i had.
it was sobering to think that i cut them out for so long and yet they are such nice people.
we were conditioned to believe that they were bad influences and were demon possessed but actually are quite decent and church going people with real strengths and weaknesses like everyone else.
I felt the same way SirNose. I do relate to what you wrote. Conversations with militant JWs does continue to be an endless rehash of the "us vs. them" script.
Indeed. The difference between the most hardcore dubs and the average dub was that H-dub could only focus on the two things you mentioned: things are so horrible, and we need that system. Average dub can at least think in terms of practical solutions first. For example...
Conversation: hurricanes in the gulf. H-dub: "The suffering is so great for those poor folks, and for our poor brothers." Solution? "We need that new system." You talk about the same thing with the average dub, and you can flesh out the conversation more. And what's the solution? "FEMA needs to stop screwing up. Bush needs to stop screwing up. Brownie needs to stop screwing up, etc." We could chew the fat on who was screwing up and what needed to happen. H-dub just has his eyes fixed on the 99.99% of humanity that needs to die first before anything good can happen New System.
A little bit off topic, but I really hate the sister's talks. I really have a problem with them now. Most of them has poor householder fretting over increased living costs, less time, more stress, not having enough help. Does talk-giving sister offer anything practical? Nope! "Let's see, householder sister, you can't pay your bills? Let's read some scriptures that say, 'One day everybody will be building houses and you won't need a job!' Isn't that GREAT!!

We weren't perfect, but we were example enough. Dad was an elder and we kept out of trouble and made him look good. Then he couldn't bear to spend that much time not upbuilding the family (always being busy with elder issues) so he stepped down. We move to where "the need is greater." We avoid congregation drama. Our popular grandparents move in and we are set--we don't need to pioneer, just stay out of trouble for the most part. Some things happen, but we avoid scandal through tight information control.
There is a family in my congregation...all are pioneers and the father is an elder. This family fits the bill of "perfect dub family." Sadly, the kids and the mom are about as interesting as tree bark.

I remember a strict elder in my congregation many years ago telling brothers not to shake the hands of sisters, now I don't recall if it was for single brothers and sisters or to everyone.It was as if they were telling us plainly, "why make physical contact with the other sex"?
There's got to be something wrong here. Why is it that certain elders just seem so...Hasidic? Not to knock Hasidic Jews or anything. It's just so strange and outdated what some of these elders believe.
