Why such boring & canned answers at the WT Study?
by navytownroger inback in th 1980s, the answers at the watchtower study & the book study seemed much more interesting.
more personal experiences that somehow related to the question being asked.
nowadays it seems all answers are just repeated from the text, or consist of reading a bible verse.

Number one, everyone's bored to death. Number two, extra flair in the answering take time and researching outside the Library CD, which JWs largely do not know how to do. Ditto on the restricted materials; you can't use suspiciously informed outside sources.
Combine them together and you have a boooooring study.

Is this plagiarism of WT art?
by inkling injust an odd thing i stumbled across the other day:.
we all know this image, published in 1992. .
well check out this cover art for the 1999 movie "the thirteenth floor":.

Similar silhouettes, perhaps, but I don't think this is plagiarism. The gridlines are about the "13th floor" silhouette, plus there's a car.....

Scan Request: "Will This World Survive" Tract --- Cover Art
by inkling indoes anyone have a copy of the tract "will this world survive"?
(it's the dark blue/black one with the silloutted man looking into the horizon...).
could someone scan just the cover for me?

I was always fascinated with this cover. I never really understood the whole grid outline and who that guy was....but it was captivating for me. Maybe because it reminded me of Tron.

It's a Spartan helmet. I picked it during the 300 craze, plus anything historical appeals to me.
I haven't had the desire to change it.

Witness fear of demons why?
by donny induring my ten year sojourn through the watchtower, i was always amazed at the witnesses fear and fascination with demons.
occasionally at gatherings, they would exchange "demon" stories, which were just a jw way of telling ghost stories, and you would usually hear a few "uhhs" and "oh my's" as the story was told.
although i had heard folks of other denominations mention demons, it was never with the "shock and awe" the witnesses put into it.

Yeah, about 5 years ago my sister had a nervous breakdown. Grampa came to see her. He was convinced that our animist-practicing ancestors had something to do with this problem. They got rid of anything with dragons on it, as these things upsetted my sister. I ended up losing a cool shirt, which was replaced with a lame one.
Demons suck.

I think I made "The List"
by RR inso jehovah's witnesses came to our door, this is about the fifth time, i always miss them, but they talk to my wife, this time i was home due to the holiday season, the man was an elder, he came with a newbie, thought he would show her "how's its done"), the young women sat there with mouth wide open, as she watched me beat up her elder with his own bible.
well after discussing the scriptures for about 2 hours, (subjects included: salvation, ransom, permission of evil, god's organization), she looked at me and said "amazing, i've never heard it explained quite that way before.".
the elder asked me what religious affiliations i had, i told him, "i am with the associated bible students.

Wow, way for that guy to run away. At least you've got someone thinking now...it may lay dormant for a time, but it'll be there....

So, they were for archaeology before they were against it. Funny what facts do to guesses.

10th grade Biology class (super lame thought process within)
by SacrificialLoon ini remember taking a test on the theory of evolution, and i intentionally answered the questions wrong, because of course jehovah created everything.
i bet i sure made jehovah's heart glad by flunking that test for him.
the next day the teacher called home and talked to my parents about the test; she apparently told them how she felt i knew the answers, but answered wrong anyway.

The CO asked for more contributions
by outofthebox init looks like the wt is running out of money fast.
few weeks ago we had the co visit and he told us in the ms and elders meeting that he had never seen a letter from the gb like this one, but then he went ahead and read it.
the letter basically said: "the contributions are down and there is more people in the congregation.
-
SirNose586
Was this some sort of general letter? If it was from the GB, why would it go to a single congregation that was down in tribute money?
