Apparently "time and unforseen occurrences" only befall non-JWs.

Respected Jehovah's Witness groomed and molested young girls over years
by Simon inhttp://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/respected-jehovahs-witness-groomed-and.5911846.jp.
a respected jehovah's witness who served as an elder betrayed the trust placed in him by abusing young girls.. james michael o'brien followed one schoolgirl into a kitchen when she was alone away from adults making tea at meetings he was hosting.. .
he pulled her towards him, sexually assaulted her and began to kiss her.. .

So now I wonder if the BoE knew this guy was a perv and did nothing about it, or if his behavior raised red flags. More than ever, I tend to notice if certain social interactions just don't feel right. Sometimes my judgment is off. But sometimes it raises real concern. So I wonder, did this guy's behavior raise concern? And if not, why didn't it?
What blunts peoples' social awareness to the fact that this guy made efforts to be alone with little girls? The Society's influence in creating this abnormal social atmosphere must be called into question. Normal folk would get rightly concerned if they saw that guy doing what he was doing, or at least they'd be concerned if he had contact with children in the manner that he did.

January 2009 Awake - Where is the quote source listed?
by AdaMakawee ini just took my dog out for a walk and found an awake laying on the ground, all wet where someone threw it.
so i picked it up because i thought it would be worth a few laughs.
i'm absolutely stunned by the amount of statements they make, statitstics they quote without naming a source.
-
SirNose586
No sources are required becaue it is PROPAGANDA!
The Awake and Watcthower only want to influence and control people's thinking by making un-sourced statements!
People will only remember the "facts" presented in the magazines, but not where these "facts" came from! --VM44
Nailed it.
The lack of sourcing really bugged me, as a student, because we were constantly hounded to cite our sources. How can a publishing firm get away with a kind of paper that would get flunked in community college? It's so stupid, it hurts.
And the real kicker is, they've done it in the past. They've cited sources in the Creation book. Why can't they do it each and every time they quote someone?

Getting Your "Time" in On Time
by OnTheWayOut ini spoke with a fellow ex-jw whose wife is still a jw.
she was missing some meetings, but had to get to her first meeting of the month.
she needed to turn her "time" in.

"Not everything that counts is counted, and not everything that's counted counts" - Einstein --monkeyman
I really like that quote. Yeah, the time crunch was ridiculous! You'd be ignored for awhile, but the moment you didn't count your time, you were a problem!
And the way they tried to justify it was even more hilarious: "Certainly, since the apostles counted that there were about 3,000 souls added to the Christian congregation at one time, this means we need to count our time today." That was so lame. Really, they didn't even do a good job of counting. We know they were in a Greco-Roman world; they knew how to count! Why didn't they give an exact count? The number can be alleged to be a fraud otherwise.
It's just proof that this is nothing but a works-based knock-off of Christianity.

Tao Te Ching vs 22
by AK - Jeff inyield and overcome; bend and be straight.. empty out and be full; wear out and be renewed.. have little and gain; have much and be confused.. therefore, the true person embraces the one.
and becomes a model for all.. do not look only at yourself, and you will see much.. do not justify yourself, and you will be distinguished.. do not brag, and you will have merit.. do not be prideful, and your work will endure.. it is because you do not strive.
that no one under heaven can strive with you.. the saying of the old ones, .

I was very impressed with the brevity of it all. All 81 (verses? chapters? lessons?) are on one page at sacred-texts.com.

Sure, I'm down. Especially if since if she's already a jack Muslim (dating outside her faith) she's probably down for other activities...

did you go on the ministry in bad weather?
by highdose ini can remember being in the freezing snow and so cold my fingers were numb, i desparatly wanted someone to invite me in, just to warm up even, but no one did.. i got soaked on countless occasions having been dropped off in some remote corner of the territory, trying to find shelter in a thunderstorm.. i got burnt to a crisp in just half an hour in a uk heatwave, of course no one was at home... they were all far more sensible and had gone to the beach!.
-
SirNose586
I did, occasionally. The few who still wanted to do territory pat themselves on the back for going out in the rain. San Diegans are wimps--if it rains, we can't drive and we'd rather stay inside.
I regret each and every rain-soaked field slavery day, even if it were just riding around and doing calls.

How "worldly" people REALLY view Jehovah's Witnesses
by HappyGuy inwhen you are a jw it is pounded into your head that the "world" hates you, wants to kill you, runs around saying all kinds of horrible things about you, and would take away all your rights, freedom of religion, etc, if it could.. when i first left the wtbts organization i told "worldly" friends and family about being a jehovah's witness.
not one of them said anything disrespectful, rude, insulting, or even unkind in any way.
i could just as well have said "i'm a baptist", or "i like comic books".. a few people who know that the wtbts is a cult were concerned over my emotional health, but that was out of a sense of friendship.. i have never met anyone who on hearing the phrase "jehovah's witness" got upset or said "those xxxxx".

This topic reminds me of the pictures they'd have in the Watchtower of families or individual schoolchildren praying in the open: everyone turned around, sneers on their faces, eyebrows wrinkled in disgust, children pointing and laughing, old men waving their hands dismissively at them.
The reality is, no one gives a crap about praying in the open, as long as you do it quietly.
On other occasions I would try to tell interested strangers my experiences with the Witnesses, and very few of them knew what I was talking about. The conversation would go something like this:
"You used to be a Jeho....what?"
"You know, the people who knock on your door."
"Oh....that's never happened to me."
"Right, but at least you know about them."
"Sort of...."
Way to go, boldly preaching the kingdom for 130 years! No one knows who you are! As has been said by others, you are legends in your own minds.

Written Reviews...what did you really do during them?
by xeracia inremember these silly tests they make you take?
i don't remember how often they were, but thinking back on them, boy does it seem silly!
sitting there for half an hour trying to remember stupid stuff as if you are in school.
-
SirNose586
Oh, and when the CO visited during the written test, he'd grade the kids' tests and give them all stickers at the end.
I looked forward to those nights because it was cool to just sit there in silence. It was cool to not have to listen to (as many) boring talks that night.
Now that I look back, how freaking weird is it that we used to belong to a cult that graded their members on the doctrine???
