  Noah's rectangular Ark

  something from when i was younger; i always was forced to believe that noahs ark was rectangular, since it was in the bible stories and other publications that way.

  but in any other religious books the ark always had at least a bit of a curved stern and a v or u shaped hull.

  a v or u shaped hull with ribs is far stronger, timber efficient, hydrodynamic and can take a few hits.

  What if caffeine was banned for JWs?

  a post about caffeine and coffee in the "what if the wts banned alcohol" thread jogged my memory.... back in the 70s sometime (i can't remember if it was pre-75 or post-75) a rumor started circulating around our area that at the next convention the wts was going to add caffeine and caffeine products (coffee, coke, etc) to the list of banned substances (tobacco, blood).

  of course, it never happened, but for a couple of months the rumors were hot and heavy.

  the rumors were easily believed by a lot of the dubs because of the "up" effects caffeine can give you and besides, the mormons banned it, there had to be a reason.

  When I was married my JW wife was practically addicted to Pepsi. An elder I knew told me he had to have 4 cups of coffee every morning or couldn't function. I guess caffeine is okay because it's so prevalent.

  DC in Ireland: Warning about groups of bros who want to modernise the WT

  i just heard this from someone who attended a district convention in ireland.. the brother told me that the speaker said that there were brothers forming groups to try and modernise the watchtower society.

  has anyone heard anything like this in the usa?

  There was a group a couple of years ago of about 50 JWs who wrote scholarly essays defending the faith and would run them by the Writing Dept. Greg Stafford was involved but when he put out his 2 Dissertations book the group splintered. There are definitely some higherups in the organization that are not preparing for Armageddon but are preparing to be in this world for a long time.

  What I thought was a crazy comment from the book study last week.

  last week in the book study the paragraph stated that satan used "false religion" to lead people away from jehovah.

  citing the teaching of false "truths" in the bible (trinity, hellfire, etc).

  i almost had to comment because i do not believe this is so because i think we would all agree that just about all religions outside of jw's are way more vocal about hating the devil, satan.

  That is a good example of Witness doublethink. Satan is both hated and used by Christendom. Sorta like how Jehovah will start the great tribulation by pulling Satan into it by his jaws. All bases are covered and the sheep just nod their heads.
