Did you notice btw the manner in which Jesus is portrayed in this book?
Yeah, very ...Anglo-centric, if that's a word?
And what's that bloke doing sniffing Jesus' butt!?
hey, my mum was having a clear-out today and decided to throw away her old society books (she ain't in now...yippee).. i was helping and came across an old 'paradise lost - paradise regained' book that we used to study as a family when i was just a nipper.. it's in remarkably good condition considering five kids used to man-handle it about 30 years ago.
it wasn't a children's book really, but the simple language used, to appeal to all sorts of laymen, made it suitable for that purpose.. scanning through i came across loads of pictures that really brought memories flooding back, i'll post some more when i get the time.. somebody recently posted a thread about the jw belief that dinosaurs were about at the same time as humans.
well the picture on the inside cover shows a dinosaur (top left) wandering about the desert and people too.

I was wondering, apart from such pictures, did the Society ever say anything about dinosaurs being destroyed in the flood IN PRINT.
I was also wondering...do you think these old books might be worth selling on Ebay?

we were informed that the tower had changed the earthquake "sign of the times" - "they're not increasing; they're just there - and that's proof enough" is apparently the new way of looking at things.
Yes, the 'new light' on earthquakes is being confirmed but like Caspian said most JWs are still unaware of the change.
This is because there are bucketfulls of Society material telling JWs that earthquakes have increased since 1914 (when they demonstrably have not). A century of indoctrination isn't going to be swept away with a few vague comments. (Hell, I bet lots are still unaware of the generation change!).
It interesting that the Awake of March 22, 2002 states:
“BEFORE his death, Jesus foretold events and situations that would give evidence that this world had entered "the conclusion of the System or things.” That period, he said, would be marked by such things as' pestilences, food shortages, and large-scale warfare. He also mentioned "great earthquakes"
that would occur "in one place after another." (Matthew 24:3,7; Luke 21:10, 11) Was Jesus referring to our day?
Many say no. They assert that the number of earthquakes has not substantially increased in recent decades. In fact, the U.S. National Earthquake Information Center reports that earthquakes of 7.0 magnitude' and greater remained "fairly constant" throughout the 20th century." * Note, though, that the fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy does' not require an increase in the number or power of earthquakes. All Jesus said was that there would be great earthquakes in 'one place after another.'
*The partial NEIC quote used above is available in full here: http://wwwneic.cr.usgs.gov/neis/general/handouts/increase_in_earthquakes.html
This is another case of the Internet ruining it for the WBTS. And why they are scared witless of it. It is easier than ever to collect information that blows the WBTS's claims out of the water, especially about 'end time' claims.
I wonder how many more 'signs' the Society will have to back down on as more and more JWs become net-savvy and find out the real truth.
i'll be 126 if i get to celebrate new years eve 2099. i suppose it's possible though highly unlikely.
do you think you'll be alive then?
Does anyone think that being a Dub influenced their view/desire of living a long time?
Yeah! I was devastated when I found out all those promises were empty. One minute I was gonna live forever in paradise Earth and the next WHAM! - I'm gonna die in a measly 50 years or so (if I'm lucky)! Talk about major depression time!
I'm desperate for anti-aging breakthroughs, I'd do anything to stay alive indefinitely (as long as I'm reasonably healthy) and would love to be a sprightly youth of 138 when 2099 comes round!
my wife and i are new to this forum, and really, we're now new to life as well.
or rather, life is new to us, normal life that is.
i don't want to turn this into a novel (at least, not yet).
Welcome Brandon and Stephanie, MonkeyPrincess and thebeliever!
Wow! a flood of newbies!
You've all got a lot of painful confrontations ahead of you. Bear in mind that the JWs you talk to are under heavy mind control and will NOT understand your descision. You will be judged as either weak or wicked...no matter what you say. There is no honorable way out of the JWs.
The ones that think you are weak will try to talk you round but will eventually give up and walk away, shaking their heads sadly that you have thrown away your lives 'this close to the end'. The ones who think you are wicked will just stop talking to you period. Neither group will listen at all to your arguments, your reasoning; it will all be dismissed as Martian gobbledegook or apostate lies. Logic and, as you say, thinking has no place in the JW mindset.
I wish you all the best in your journey out together and hope you find many new friends 'in the world'
Dean
"we cannot take part in any modern version of idolatry-be it worshipful gestures toward an image or symbol or the imputing of salvation to a person or an organization.
" the watchtower, 11/1/1990, p. 26. .
"identifying themselves with jehovahs organization is essential to their salvation.
Quote from Awake!, May 22nd 1994 Issue, Page 2:
Youths Who Put God First
In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it , only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue . _____________________________________________
Quote from The Watchtower, December 1st 1998 Issue, Page 14:
Jehovah's Witnesses have been targets of false accusations-- barefaced lies and twisted presentations of their beliefs... The accusation that numerous children of Jehovah's Witnesses die each year as a result of refusing blood transfusions is totally unfounded.
this is so frustrating - just wanted to vent a bit.. .
my younger brother, who has been "inactive" for about 8 years, has decided that everything wrong about his life is due to his not being "right with jehovah".
arrrrrrgh!!!
My heart goes out to you Mike...
Thank God all my brothers and sisters are out (2 of each). I would hate to be in your position. My only relative left in (apart from in-laws) is my wife, and that's bad enough.
I hope that it is a momentary madness on your brother's part, try to keep contact open if you can - be amicable, maybe by your example you can save him.
Best wishes,
Dean.
the saying goes "once the good news of the kingdom has been preached in all the inhabited earth, then the end will come.
now, only 6,000,000 witnesses, one planet of 6,000,000,000 people, (the jw's amount to 0.1% of the earth's population, man sure annoying for only 0.1%) i don't see, how it would be possible to reach every person or land.
so many new being born in the world, new subdivisions going up in every city across the planet, conceivably the cycle will never end, therefore the "good news" will never reach everyone.. and, a few threads of late regading going out in service, most people hate it, do as little as possible, count excess hours (donuts, driving time, etc.).
Like Hamas said, 'do the math'.
Preaching to the 'entire inhabited earth' is impossible. If only because new humans are pouring in at a prodigious rate...
However, if I were a JW, I would reason that Armageddon would come when the preaching work was done 'to His satisfaction'.
To a JW mindset there are answers to all objections viewpoints.
too bad it says it can't be posted on other websites!
i think it could benefit a lot of jw lurkers and doubters on this forum and other places who would not normally go to freeminds to read it there.. oh well here is the link...take a chance !
go read it--it is hilarious!.
ROTFLMAO!
I especially liked 'The Truth' bit at the end:
Jehovah's Witnesses are known and recognized worldwide because they are loving, decent, honest Christian men and women. When they arrive in a neighborhood and get out of their vans like the Invasion on Normandy, the neighbors immediately say, "Oh honey, look! Those wonderful loving, decent, honest Christian men and women, the Jehovah's Witnesses, have graced us with their presence!" Let's do make lemonade and welcome them in to chat!
two members of the governing body decide to skip the sunday meetings to play golf,.
so 8 am off they go to the golf course, they are the only ones there, to beat the crowd.. jesus is watching from heaven and says "jehovah look at this, it's sunday and they are playing golf.".
jehovah responds "yes".
Why don't Italians like Jehovah's Witnesses?
>
Italians don't like ANY witnesses!
