The Elders' are Coming, Need Questions..!!!!

the elders are coming this saturday to do their yearly.

i desperatly need a couple good "questions" to throw at.

These men will be highly experienced in 'dealing' with questions.
Unless you too are experienced in debates of this kind then you won't get anywhere; not because you are wrong but because you are unfamilier with the techniques that cult trained minds use to twist things.
I suggest you keep a low profile until you are more sure of yourself, it does nobody any good to fall into a shouting match. Besides, they may be looking for an excuse to DA or DF you, in my experience that's what sheperding calls out of the blue tend to be.

If you WANT to go for it then I suggest these for a start:

Do you believe a loving God would kill over 6,000,000,000 people? Why has the Society said the end is “soon”, every day since 1884? Who besides the Society says the temple was destroyed in 607 BCE? Why is protecting that date so important to them? Would a “just” God give all women extra punishment (birth pain)? If Adam and Eve didn’t know evil, why blame them for being fooled? Do you really believe lions were originally designed to eat grass? (see the thread 'God made cats' for more info on this)

what brought you out?

i was intersted in what brought "you" out.. with me it was the 607 bce thing.

i always followed the org and would have died for it but when i saw the fallacy of the 607 date that blew it for me.

i am now on a quest to try and find something to feel comfortable with.

My experience is similer to AlanF.
I began to realise that the Society weren't being entirely fair with their disemination of information - they were using quotes out of context, mis-representing intent, playing silly buggers with statistics, being unscientific, using subliminal mind-control techniques etc.
However, the most powerful proof to me that they haven't got the truth is their insistance that we are living in the time of the end. Even a few hours spent researching the topic as an individual will show beyond any shadow of a doubt that the 20th century was, in fact, BETTER than most others with regard to some of the 'signs' esp disease and famine. Trouble is, JWs are not allowed to do their own research.

god i hated it..every living breathing minute of it.

it was pure hell for me, and based on the pace i see the jws all over the world moving, they aint so fond of it neither.

the persecution that the jws feel they get is from irritated householders who know nothing about their religion except that they hit people over the head with it and then judge them because they dont like being hit over the head with it.

You can almost sense the relief when my wife looks out of the curtains on a Saturday morning and it's raining - this means she can skip going 'on the work' with a clear conscience.
Personally, I too used to hate it going from door to door - it seemed so forced, unnatural. I much prefered informal witnessing which arose naturally out of conversations.
Like most of you here, I feel that it is a monumental waste of time.
Anyway, if people are to be judged on their response to 'the good news' then calling on them is giving them a death sentence. Far better to leave them alone then they'll survive Armageddon with the excuse of ignorance.

...my husband just got laid off, again.

the big job the company had been promised fell through.. this is the second time in three months, but this time they said that the company will most likely.

Hi Essie,

15 Years ago I was made redundant from a job. I was out of work for six months. It was hard but I'm no longer afraid of being out of work - I KNOW I can survive. It may be different in this country (it's against the law to starve in England), we had State help and I did odd jobs to make ends meet. I used the time to learn new skills which made me more attractive in the job market.

It was a hard time but I used to think to myself lots of people in the world were worse off.

I hope all goes well for you. Remain positive and I'm sure it will.

No! No! You've got it all wrong - big cats, like lions and tigers, need that strength to open coconuts.

The Society has made it all clear in questions from readers - September 1st 1969.

And I quote:

'Another thing, is one justified in concluding that the way an animal uses its body today is the only possible way? As an example, a tiger uses its fangs and claws to catch, kill and tear apart other animals. Yet, could not these same fangs and claws be used in tearing apart heavy vegetation and ripping off husks and shells?'

Nobody should be made to feel stupid, hannibal, and that is not what most of us intend. But you are right, reading the posts on this board help all of us (except perhaps Fred Hall) to realise how little we know about life, the universe and everything.
It is a humbling experience for exJWs who used to think we had all the answers to find that, in fact, we weren't even allowed to see the questions!
Anyway, welcome to the board, and never forget: whatever anyone says, it's always their OPINION.
