This is driving me crazy! How can the area of each shape be different when they are made of equally sized shapes?
I never was any good at maths!

the latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?
OK, I looked again at what the article said. And I am convinced more than ever that something is afoot.
Consider the title of the article: Our Watchfulness Takes On Greater Urgency
Why? What has changed? Why should ?our? watchfulness suddenly take on greater urgency?
The very title implies that something has occurred, or there have been new developments, or that time is running out for some special reason.
Paragraph 3 sets out the reason for the article:
Hence, the question that we must reflect on is: ?What will help us to strengthen our conviction that the end is near??
What is the Watchtower asking? HOW DO WE KNOW THAT THE END IS NEAR?
So what do they say immediately after that question? Paragraph 4 launches straight into the flood account and how it parallels our day, mentioning the scripture where Jesus says that ?just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the son of man will be.? It adds: ?Having a clear understanding of the parallel between that time and our day should fortify our conviction that the end of the present world is near.?
Ask yourself ? How can the parallels of Noah?s time convince you that the end is not only coming but ?near?? What parallels could they possibly mean? It can only mean one thing ? that Noah?s time gives an indication of how near Armageddon might be. How can it do that?
Noah?s time must mirror our time in some way.
How?
Now read paragraph 6 and 7 again. The connections are so clear to me I just can?t understand why many can?t see it. The Society are giving the JWs the pieces of jigsaw on a plate. What do you do with pieces of jigsaw? It seems strange to me that some of you are saying in effect ?well, all I can see is a bit of nose, and a mouth, a couple of ears, maybe the odd eye or two?but I certainly don?t see a face.?
This difference of opinion is healthy of course, and is fascinating to me. If I am wrong, please tell me specifically where my logic and understanding of the way the Org works is breaking down.
Cheers,
dmouse

Out of the 8000 + currently available candidates, sufficient have been selected to make up the number. However these newbies have to prove themselves before they can be "sealed" and this is the reason we are waiting.
Link,
Sounds to me like your congregation are indulging in a bit of unwarranted speculation of their own. I am not aware of this idea as an official Watchtower teaching.
Could you perhaps ask them to point out where it says this in the society's literature?
.
images of the destruction of the world at armageddon are legion in the societie's literature and much of it is documented on the web.. i've seen most of them, but for some reason this one seems to have escaped the catalogue.
at least i don't remember seeing it anywhere.. it's from the 'does god really care about us' brochure on page 19:.

in the october 15 watchtower (the one dmouse used the cover of for his competition...) there is an article on how to make decisions.
this picture was part of it:.
note the image on the right.
er, what is that black man doing with his right hand? Putting on a condom?
Anyway, I think the downside to using photos is illustrated in the same article with this one:
The lad is a little stiff, it's more difficult to get a natural feel than with art work.

That's OK link, thanks for trying anyway. I'm interested in what the JWs have to say. But I know what you mean about arguing with JWs, in the end no matter what logic and facts you have on your side they have an impenetrable shield of ignorance; a bit like arguing with a flat-earther.
Perhaps JWs are too scared to make the connections upfront at the minute. They may need to wait for further clarification. After all they don't want to 'run ahead of the organisation'.
Personally I think if anyone considered weak or having apostate leanings asked JWs about this article they'll pull the old theocratic warfare trick and deny deny deny.
After all, it's official policy not to reveal the truth to their enemies.
this is in the jokes and humour section, so if you are easily offended by jokes and humour please leave now.
ok all you clever jwd computer bods, how about a competition to create the most amusing or thought provoking watchtower cover?.
here is the original cover:.
Sorry anglise, we can't see your entries because they are on your hard drive. You need to put them on the web somewhere and link to them.
But glad you're enjoying the fun!
I think there are some great entries, I've not laughed so hard in ages!

Link, What your pet JW scholar said:
Genesis 6:3 is telling us two things, a) that as from the year 2490 b.c. the life expectancy of man will be reduced to 120 years and b) the flood would occur in 2610 b.c. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Armageddon.
Contrast that with what the Watchtower said:
21 Although the Flood seems remote from our day, it clearly provides a warning that we must not ignore?.
The whole article is about parallels between Noah's day and ours. They ARE making connections between the flood and Armageddon. Your 'scholar' is either using theocratic warfare, or he's not very theocratic, or he's not very bright.
i was interested in two articles in the watchtower of october 15th 2003.
both articles give an insight into decision making as a jehovah?s witness.
i found the juxtaposition of them quite interesting!
I like your analogy Sabrina. The WBTS certainly keep their adherents in spiritual play-pens!
I remember when I left the JWs I was quite disoriented for a time because I kept wondering what ?mother? would tell me to do in certain situations. Eventually I was able to make decisions and make up my own mind about things without looking at Watchtowers etc.
It took a long time for me to be able to think for myself, rather than just parrot what I was told.

First article on page 6 & 7. Making Wise Decisions
My comments in green.
?In matters of major importance, it is vital to make wise decisions, [well duh!] since happiness is largely dependent on our doing so. Some people may feel that they are quite capable of making such decisions and may reject help when it is offered. [What, you don?t want the advice of spiritual appointed window washers?] Is that wise? Let us see.?
?Often, your decisions may affect others. So never deliberately make an unwise ? even stupid ? decision that could jeopardize precious relationships with friends and relatives or, above all, with God. ? [Any decision that goes against the WBTS is ?stupid? and will get your ass kicked out ? don?t forget WE control your family and friends, so make the ?right? choice!]
Of course, the main thrust of this article is to promote baptisms ? not enough people are ?making wise decisions? and selling their soul to the WBTS.
?The decision about what course to follow now is yours to make, truly a decision that is a matter of life and death. Would you welcome help in making the right decision, the wise one?? [doesn?t it make you want to puke?] If so, decide to study God?s word. Decide to learn the divine requirements for pleasing God. [As promulgated by the WBTS] Decide to meet them. Above all, decide to carry your decision through to completion. Briefly stated, decide for life! [Of course, what they don?t tell you is that it?s probably the last decision you?ll ever make, once a JW your whole life is controlled by the Org]
*************************************************************************
In the same magazine, on page 23, is an article entitled ?Youths, Walk Worthily of Jehovah?
In regard to making decisions, notice what two Christians ?youths? said about having to leave the protective custody of their normal highly controlled environment for a few months:
Takos: ?Being away from the protective care of my parents as well as the loving oversight of elders who knew me well was difficult and intimidating.? ? At times, I felt extremely vulnerable.?
Petros: ?For the first time in my life, I had to make decisions about entertainment and associations entirely on my own, and my choices were not always wise.? ?Sometimes I felt uneasy with the greater responsibility that increased freedom brought.?
Guess how old these JW ?youths? are ? 15? 16? No, Takos is 21 and Petros is 20!
Seems to me that the Society are creating a generation of wimps that can?t function or think for themselves without the control systems that they set up. Whatever happened to maturity?
