Two more I thought of. My black and Decker cordless drill/driver. I got it as a Xmas gift eight years ago, it still works even though I use it almost daily. I also have a black and Decker toaster oven, I have had a few over the years, they last a good long time and are very useful. Since it's just my husband and I, I often use it instead of the big oven, which saves on electricity.

Encinitas Congregation Encinitas CA.
by exwhyzee inanyone from that hall?.
we attended a memorial for a long time friend there this past weekend.
it was my first time in a kingdom hall since memorial 2008. as per usual, the people were lovely but the message had gaps and left me feeling somewhat blank and cold.

It's your life I guess, I just wonder if you are just focusing on a few good things and forgetting the bad parts, the sheer boredom of the meetings, the futile nature of the field service, etc. Why not spend that same time and effort into developing new relationships and finding a new group to be involved with? There are churches that have the good parts of being in a religion, without all the JW baggage.
I do get why you might miss some things, I am not a believer, but I was attending church for a while, I actually enjoyed it very much. The services were interesting, the people were nice, very welcoming, they had great music and good food afterwards, they did a lot of charitable work. They were even fine with my lack of belief in God. It was in another town unfortunately, so we stopped going. We are going the Christmas eve services at my husband's parents church (same denomination), I am really looking forward to it.

I am very happy with my Kindle Fire. When my first gave out after two years of constant use, I was happy to buy another, at $119 each I don't expect them to last forever.

Emblem Takers Mentally Unstable?
by Cold Steel inonthewayout wrote: of course, for quite awhile (and probably still), congregations have been viewing any relatively young (maybe under 50 or even 60) partakers as mentally unstable and watchtower ignores such people anyway and says they must listen to the elders.
is this correct?
ever since the emblem-takers were given emeritus status as members of the faithful and discreet slave, have they been relegated to standard membership?

I believe there are a group of ex JWs that partake (on their own), and still believe they are of the anointed.

The association afterward was easy and natural and reminded me of the way it used to be when all was well for us and JWdom. Maybe that in itself should be enough for a person ?
A few nice interactions do not a good life make.

Re Hostage victims killed in Sydney: "dont worry, at least they will NOW get a ressurection"
by stuckinarut2 inso most would now know of the vile act in sydney last week where a man held hostage over 17 people in the lindt cafe in the middle of sydney.. two people were murdered...a beautiful, educated lawyer, loving mother of three, and a brave, loving young man working as the cafe manager.. this senseless and cruel act has touched everyone deeply, especially in the communities of sydney.
the outpouring of grief and support for the victims and their families has been immense.. i was therefore outraged to have the following comment made by a witness in conversation at the kingdom hall:.
"well, we dont need to be sad, because at least now they (the two victims) will get a ressurection.

By that line of thinking they could do more good by becoming mass murderers themselves, as more people could be assured of a resurrection. The average JW has probably never converted anyone to the religion, but they could save the lives of quite a few by this method.
(Sarcasm, obviously, do not attempt to become a mass murderer)

does the wt always carefully phrase sentences so as to never take blame?
by sowhatnow inim recalling a time when i sat and circled words in a watchtower article, indicating strongly the fact that it is in fact the writters opinion.. however just the suggestion in the sentence these words are ignored.. for example.
it is our understanding.
we believe this to be the case.

Evidently, The Watchtower wants to make assertions that they can distance themselves from later, if necessary. We can conclude they seek plausible deniability, refusing to let their yes mean yes and their no mean no. It is our understanding they follow a pattern of using such "weasel words" and we should be confident that things they teach now as truth will later be reversed and explained away as "taking". It is suggested that nothing they print can be believed and we can conclude that possibly even they don't believe what they print. Honest hearted persons are wise to be cautious about what they read and it is suggested they don't believe any of it. What a fine example we set when we refuse to be taken in by such lies.

This was why I hated going out at all, it just seemed so inefficient and futile. If preaching was so important why did we waste so much time doing everything but preaching? As a working mom my free time was precious, I wasn't going to waste my Saturday morning driving around and going on coffee breaks.
It was all about numbers on a time slip, not reaching hearts and minds, all for show. A scripture comes to mind, "having a FORM of godly devotion but proving false to its power".

Since the announcement in the Thirties (I think) that there was an earthly class, the number of partakers (heavenly class) steadily declined, and they taught that the 144,000 had been all been selected, so there wasn't room for any more. Then the numbers started rising again, and they decided that some who had previously partook, but then left the organization, were not replaced until they died, which explained the rising numbers.
I have been gone a while, so I don't know if the numbers are rising still, or even if they report the numbers now. When I was in, people were skeptical of any new partakers, especially if they were known to have mental health issues, which they often did. My personal feeling is that some people are just prone to altered states of consciousness, and the only way they can make sense of it is to believe they are of the anointed. Of the ones I was well aquainted with, one had anorexia, one was bipolar, one had seizures and one had episodes of fugue states where they acted co mpletely different, childlike and silly, then didn't remember the whole episode later.
They are no longer part of the FDS, they got demoted, now it's just the GB.

I doubt your parents would want you to feel bad about it, they would probably just be happy to know you came to your senses and can enjoy the holidays now. Being miserable certainly won't do them any good, so have a good time, and give some money to the salvation army in their honor.
