I am sure that my former in laws spread it about that I left my husband and ran away to Colorado to live in sin with a guy I knew in high school. Actually all that was true, so I don't know how they could make it sound much worse, lol. I figured I was going to shunned for getting remarried without a "scriptural divorce", why bother pretending we weren't living together.

It was hilarious, my JW mom called me and my sixteen year old step son answered and said I wasn't there, and he said that he wasn't my then boyfriend. My mother was all shook up because my step son has a very deep voice, I guess she thought I was having a three some? I had to explain the more pedestrian truth, that I was shacking up, but with only one guy. Why does everyone want to believe the worst? We have been happily married for fifteen years next July, which I am sure has shocked everyone in a different way.

"Foot in the Door", or "Apathy with a Cart"?

we have all noticed this and commented in other threads.... but isn't it interesting that in times past, witnesses earned a reputation of being so determined to share "the kingdom message" that they would put their foot in the door at a house to keep the conversation going!.

now, the apathy and lack of effort in service; particularly with the literature carts shows the complete opposite!

yet...the end is supposed to be even closer right?

I don't really care about today's JWs having it easier, what bothers me is the hypocrisy of a religion that pretends to be all about the preaching work, it's what they say sets them apart, what makes them different and special, but the reality is very little preaching actually happens.

Most individual JWs don't care about preaching, only about "getting hours". If they stopped reporting hours, how many would be standing by those carts, do you think? They know they won't be converting anyone, or even having any meaningful conversations, so the only reason to be there is to "count time".

The Watchtower is just as complicit. They know they won't be getting any converts that way, but only care about the money from the magazines that comes mostly from individual JWs. They know most of those magazines end up in the land fill, unread and unwanted, but they dont care, not do they care about the fact that those JWs could be spending their time in a more productive way.

I hate waste, and this is just a lot of waste, wasted time, wasted paper, wasted resources, and for what? To feed a parasite like organization that serves no useful purpose.

What is true love?

i just watched the video what is true love.

first of all it is painfully long.

secondly there is an uncanny resemblance with megan(the one who married out of the truth) to the girl in the jeremiah book who married out of the truth.

I'm another INFP who really, really didn't fit in. The idea of a JW wedding filled me with horror as a teen. Reading life is too short's post, yeah, glad I passed on that.

Yeah, we are only 4% of the population, so we are usually the odd one in any group, but other groups don't make you feel like there there is no hope for you as much as the JWs, lol.

Did you know the person who developed the Myers-Briggs was also an INFP? Although we might not fit in everywhere, we have our own unique perspective to bring to the world, just not the JW world.

And I am close to the middle on the P/J scale, so we are probably a lot alike.

The real issue is long term solvency.

ok every one raves on at how miserable and tight wt is, while they are literally swimming in money and assets.

although this may be true this isn't the real issue or the problem to begin with.

the problem is having a long term survivable business plan.

One month researching my doubts: my crucial issues with WTBTS - what are yours?

so after 20 years a convert, about a month ago i decided to start listening to my doubts and to do independent research about the wtbts teachings (naughty me).

as a result i have consolidated my position on various points and these are my major issues with the wtbts teachings, i am posting these to help myself figure things out (with your assistance) and hopefully to hear from others at their stage of drawing away from the gb - newbies' especially.

After may years away from the religion my list is pretty much the same. I agree with those here who advise to take it slow. Since you have family and friends you don't want to lose you have a lot to think about. There are no easy answers, so make sure you can live with the long term consequences of any decisions. It's rough to lose family and friends, it's also rough to live a lie, either way it's better to know ttatt (truth about the truth) than not.

Life is too short, my heart goes out to you. I can relate to your experiences, I never felt like I fit in either. I wasn't trying to be different, it's just the way I was, but I couldn't figure out why some people couldn't stand me, I was a bit shy and introverted, but I was always nice to people. This happened in other groups, not just the Jehovah's Witnesses, but it was ten times worse at the Kingdom Hall.

What helped me was taking a class in the Meyers Briggs personality evaluation. I realized see that a lot of JWs lwere probably opposite to the type I was, INFP, and that the group as a whole was a type that was my opposite type. My type will always have a hard time fitting into any group, but especially one like the Jehovah's Witnesses. I wasn't bad, I was just different. People who had a different personality type might have an easier time fitting in with others, might enjoy the meetings and field service more and will usually see me as being the wrong one. There is no excuse for people of that type treating others bad, but it's sort of more understandable once you see why they do.

Once I realized there was nothing wrong with me and that I would really never fit in, I was able to break free from the religion. JWs who liked being JWs weren't better than me, they were just different.

Happy Memorial Day

just wishing a happy memorial day to everyone!

we had some friends over, barbecued and let the kids run around slap crazy playing cops and robbers and hide and go seek.

we have so many freedoms that those under tyranny do not have.

I had a wonderful weeknd, went to a bed and breakfast in Sutter Creek California, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. This was the heart of the California gold country, but is becoming more known as wine country these days. We did some wine tasting and had a really nice time.

Could you ever really relax in a self-driving car?

i love science and technology and we are living in a golden age right now.

the world has changed in so many incredible ways just in the time i've been alive.. my first car was a vauxhall viva.

it was brilliant because it was my first car and represented freedom.

Such involuntary application of the brakes could cause an accident if there is a car behind you going at high speed.

This could just as easily happen with human drivers. You should never be following so close behind another driver that you can't stop if they should apply the breaks suddenly.

So far in testing of self driving cars, there have been eleven accidents in 1.7 million miles, none due to the fault of the self driving cars. I like those odds.

When I was bamboozled into joining this religion in 1969 all Jehovah WItnesses believed the end was coming in 1975 or very soon thereafter. If any one questioned this they were accused of being weak in faith.

Despite the fact that this was a failed prediction, just like every other prediction they have made, they still pretend the end is eminent. They get away with it because memories are short, people are gullible and fear is useful in manipulating people. I believe many do not enjoy being in a doomsday cult, but they stay because "what if they are right" fear overcomes rational thought.

10th Anniversary

just popped in to say hi and let you know that my wife and i have been "out" for 10 years!!!

wow a whole decade without going to a meeting or out door to door.. no bolts of lightening, only a couple of visits in all that time by some petrified elders and a couple of newbie locals knocking on our door in all that time!.

how wonderful!
