  Unconvincing Evidence in September Watchtower

  i was looking at the september 2015 issue of the watchtower, which, unlike the simplified and study editions, appears to be aimed at non-jws.

  a couple of articles caught my eye that quote biblical sources which are somewhat less than convincing to a non-believer.. firstly 'what do jehovah's witnesses believe?

  ' says that the core belief is that 'all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial'.

  Some may wonder if the story of the whole earth being covered with water is a myth or at least an exaggeration. Not at all! Indeed, to some extent the earth is still flooded. Seawater covers about 71 percent of the earth’s surface. So in reality the floodwaters are still here.

  So, the ocean is a flood?? The fact that most of the earth is covered in seawater is not the same as being flooded. Flooding is when ground not usually covered in water becomes covered in water, so the ocean doesn't really qualify.

  And if the glaciers and polar ice caps were to melt, the sea level would rise to cover cities like New York and Tokyo.

  Hmmm. Those cities are at fairly low elevations, so what about Mount Everest? K2? What amount of water would be needed to cover that? And where did that water then go? The only way that could have happened is if massive mountains rose up after the flood, something not mentioned in the bible and not supported by science.

  Why do dogs, cats and horses have digits that are completely non functional? For example, the dew claws in dogs, why did God put them there?

  Why do people have a tailbone?

  Whdid God create dinosaurs? The fossil record tells us that there were at one time thousands of kinds of dinosaurs, so why did God create them just to wipe them off the face of the earth?

  Why does a simple plant like the Lily have more DNA than a human?

  this is such a shame.

  i've always thought about things like this happening because of how crazy some people are, especially in regards to religion.

  I don't think this is as much a race or gun issue as much as it's a mental health issue. Obviously we don't know much at this point, but even a hard line racist will not usually do something this extreme, it usually takes some form of mental health issue.

  There is a problem in this country with how we deal with the mentally ill. Too often parents are forced to stand by while their adult children cycle in and out through the mental health system. They hit a low and are hospitalized, where they receive medication and improve, so they are released. Once released they often stop taking medication and start acting out again. At one time people were often hospitalized against their will when they didn't need to be, but we have gone too far in the other direction and a good percentage of the homeless population are mentally ill, which is not good for them or for society.

  There are laws that prevent people who are mentally from buying guns, but there are a few loopholes. A former co-worker of mine had a wife who threatened suicide. She was taken to the emergency room, but talked her way out of it. The next day she bought a gun and killed herself and their two children. She was diagnosed as bipolar and should not have been able to buy a gun, especially after threatening suicide.

  Unfortunately in this church shooter's case his father bought the gun for him and it's it's hard to legislate against stupidity

  Preach, preach, preach....feel guilty...preach some more

  since starting to wake up, i can't help notice how so many talks emphasise preaching, increasing your hours, pioneering etc...with a hefty load of guilt on the side.. i always noticed the guilt, but now i'm noticing how talks that seem to start out on another issue always seem to come back to hours!

  visit talk seemed to start out about persecution, trusting in jehovah etc...but the main thrust in the end was, 'do more hours, pioneer, don't get an education or pursue a career, don't get distracted, hooray for the pioneers!

  if you dont do more hours you will be 'the sort that shrink back to destruction'.

  Time control and guilt are useful to keeping people enslaved to a cult. Either you spend all your time and energy in busywork (field service) or you spend all your time and energy in other things, which makes you feel guilty. Either way, they win, because you aren't questioning things or thinking about their failures. I don't think they care either way as long as you keep contributing to their real estate empire.

  Mind control cults keep their members so busy with meetings and activities that they become too busy and too tired to think about their involvement.

  Time control also helps the cult keep their members immersed in the manufactured cult environment
  And time control helps keep cult members away from friends and family.

  Joining another cult... is it an option? Your thoughts..

  i've just finished reading "freedom of mind" today.

  meditating over the many things i've read, one chapter of the book talks about how there could be a situation where more than one family member may have joined one cult, while another member may have joined another one.

  it mentions the possibility of using one family member against the other in order to bring them both to questions their own cults.. this hit me home as i had been thinking if joining a cult would be a good idea.

  For a minute there I thought you were actually joining a cult, lol

  It's a stretch. Most people have no trouble identifying other cults as being cults, but believe their own situation is different no matter how many similarities there are. For someone who is waking up or at least unhappy with their current situation it might just work.

  How sad. I saw a documentary on north Korea and it was clear to me that it was basically just a big cult, people are as mind controlled as the Jehovah's Witnesses.

  Paul said NOT to be "Harsh" in Shunning

  the apostle paul warned the corinthians not to be too harsh in their shunning of a man who was guilty of sexual immortality / adultery:.

  2 co 2:5-11: now if anyone has caused sadness, he has saddened, not me, but all of you to an extentnot to be too harsh in what i say.

  this rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man; now you should instead kindly forgive and comfort him, so that he may not be overwhelmed by excessive sadness.

  It ties in with my belief that the early Christians did not practice shunning as the Jehovah's Witnesses do. No judicial committee, no announcement, but if a person was known to do things that was not right, then those people that were aware of it would simply stop associating with him. No need for the elders to sniff out any hint of impropriety, no harsh shunning because someone made a mistake, it would take a consistent practice of such behavior, and such judgement was by individuals, by church leaders.

  And since there is a record of the early Christians having disagreements, no shunning because you didn't agree 100 with another person, even if they were church leaders.

  so, like every year, there's a campaign going on about giving people convention invites and urging them to attend the convention.

  what an utterly moronic waste of time.

  we live 500+ kilometers away from the convention hall.

  And if anybody other than a Jehovah's Witness actually showed up they would be immediately grilled as to why they don't have a convention badge and parking pass. Women would be looked at oddly for not wearing a dress, men would be looked at oddly for sporting facial hair. They would be confused because they didn't bring a song book and wouldn't know what to sing. At lunch they would be hungry because they didn't know they would be expected to pack a lunch for religious services. After the hike from the parking lot they would be have to troop up to the nosebleed section, as all other seats would have been taken. If they managed to make it through that, they would be either bored to tears and/or horrified, depending on what they heard. After which they would beat feet home, and the idea of attending a Jehovah's Witness convention would never be mentioned again.

  Under oath, Defendant testified at trial and that is what this case is about stating to the jury and in open Court what she wanted, MONEY. Regarding getting the WT to change their policy, I have already posted on that before, Can't you read ,Einstein? At the trial, and that is what this case is about, Defendant asked for money for damages and not for injunctive relief against the WT.

  And why shouldn't she ask for money ? You seem quite eager to uphold the constitution, why aren't you interested in Candace Conti's right to sue Watchtower for the damage that was done to her? Do you understand that harm is done to a young girl when a man uses her for sexual gratification?

  Why was the no witness rule versus the 2 witness rule not good enough for the Police and for the DA in this case and why were Conti's allegations against Kendrigs not good enough to have him arrested?

  It's Kendrick, not Kendrigs.

  What is needed in a court of law to prosecute someone is one thing, that bar is set pretty high, which should be the case when a person's freedom is at risk. But when it comes to a this incident, where there had been a complaint made, where Kindrich admitted some of the wrongdoing, where the brothers on the committee said they felt Kendrich was not bring truthful, where the wife knew at least part of it had happened, there was more than enough proof to say that this person should not have been in a position of authority or allowed to be around children.
